The front desk lady told me that the doctors had already left (even though they weren't closed.) Very ridiculous to me that your doctors just choose to leave early. You are a Veterinary HOSPITAL. You should be available for animals in need. Not just going home cause you're lazy. It's ridiculous. I will never be going there ever. And I will tell everyone I know to not go there as well. Not unless they want some lazy half assed doctors. Absolutely insane to me. Do better. read more

From the total outrageous prices to the clueless staff telling lies, I should hold up a sign warning others not to come here. Hudson has a beard and tattoos, puts on a nice face at first. That is until you confront him with facts and expose his lies. He even try to intimate me, getting louder and sticking out his chest. Then when exposed he hides in the back and gets the staff to handle his dirty work. Facts are my pet is in heaven because of YOUR medicine! They didn't have togo there yet and to constantly receive calls and emails checking on my pet or to bring them in today is down right heartless. This is a business ,not a passion. Hudson is about the money, pretends to have compassion, but will prescribe death to make a dollar. The locals in town know not to come here. If I could give them more stars, I would. I have an ancient rescue cat who messed up her leg over the weekend. I called this morning and had an appointment for 30 minutes later. The tech who got my cat's information was so kind and attentive. We saw Dr. Chilupe today. I have never been so impressed by a vet before, and I already love Dr. Hudson! Dr. Chilupe was not only kind, but she was informative as well. She is so good at breaking down information for people like me who needs it to be explained in basic terminology. She gave us her plan to seeing what is going on with my cat and the tech came back with the prices. It was expensive, and I was trying to figure out how I'd afford it all. The tech was so sweet, and she asked me for a budget so that they can work with me. She came back a few minutes later with a new plan within my budget, and never once did she or Dr. Chilupe make me feel like I was a bad pet parent for cutting down on some of the tests and whatnot. All you have to do is ask and they will work with you. I ended up leaving my cat for a bit while she got x-rays, and afterward Dr. Chilupe spoke to me over the phone to make sure I knew what was going on and what her recommendations are. I really can't say enough good stuff about this clinic. Everyone is kind and personable. They actually care about the animals they are taking care of and work with owners to make sure the pet gets care without the owner filing for bankruptcy. Overall, 20/10 experience. After six years at Hudson Vet Clinic, spending thousands of my dollars there, and after sending four (4) of my fur-babies to the Rainbow Bridge, on Oct. 6, 2023 I was verbally abused by Practicing Manager Kristen and subsequently lied about, by several staff, to the Better Business Bureau, Columbia, SC after I filed a complaint. No one deserves to be treated the way this clinic treated me, especially at my age of 81 years! All because I asked on Oct. 6 "who gave my dog the Simparica Trio?" We had agreed it would be given at the clinic during the visit Oct. 4 and I was charged $31.32 (to allow me time to receive a mail order of that medicine.) All communication went downhill from there as Hudson Vet staff lied about handing ME the dog's medicine, refused to refund me the cost or to replace the medicine and continued to lie to the BBB. Worse, they disparaged my reputation and my character and hurt me to the core! Stay away and save yourself from being treated in the same unpredictable deplorable and inhumane manner I have been treated, by the (Kevin) Hudson Veterinary Clinic! read more

I waited an hour for my dogs to be seen and the tech didn't even know why they came in. The tech proceeded to review their records in front of me even though the vet stated they were late due to having to review the records. I was previously quoted for my visit and fifteen minutes into the tech sitting with me we still didn't know what shots and meds the dogs needed. The original reason I called was to have heartworm prescribed and I was told they needed to come in for check ups before I could get meds. In general, this is the most expensive vet I've been to for my seven and three year old dogs and this is the third state we've lived in. The tech was nice but the confusion, being left waiting, lack of concern for our time and the overall costs here will leave our family looking for another vet. read more

They had no problem treating our dog, letting us know she was terminal with a few months to live, but when it was very near the end and we needed their help, we were told they had no time and to find another clinic, which we did. This other clinic, even though they were booked up as well, made the time for us. They had never seen us before, and were compassionate, unlike the person we spoke to at Hudson. I recommend finding a compassionate vet that will care for your pet to the very end, unlike Hudson. read more

Took our small dog in for teeth cleaning, shots and nail trim. After boasting about their new X-Ray machine, they said they had to do X-rays on all new visits. We were given a total of a little over $1200.00 for work. They did have to do a few extractions but still, too much money. My husband agreed but I would not have paid that much for teeth cleaning and a rabies shot! Ridiculously high. The receptionist joked about have to pay for the new x-ray machine. Then when we picked up the dog, they charged us an additional $93.00 for an antibiotic shot we were not aware of. They have lost my business and anyone else's I can speak with. read more

A lot of Vets in Sumter don't work on Fridays. Hudson differs. They are very attentive to pets' needs and are thorough in their explanations and diagnoses. Our poor Jackapoo was having diarrhea and throwing up today (Friday). The first vet we went to didn't have a veterinarian working but said to hold off on her food for 24 hours and if it wasn't better by Monday then to call back. Hudson has an opening and had us in and was able to tell our little Bella had pancreitis likely caused by the food we were feeding her. They gave us multiple prescriptions, food recommendations moving forward, and even messaged us back after hours to answer our question about her very bloody poop after being seen. We're switching vets to here because of how greatly Bella was treated today. read more

I've used their services for several years with several different pets but today they acted like I was making Meth in my basement when I asked for the name and spelling of a medication my dog was on over the phone. This has never been a problem in the past...ever...but today it was very frustrating and insulting. Not to mention I needed it for a military vet. Needless to say the wait for them to fax the information to the military vet was very unpleasant and I will take my business and recommend to others that they take their business elsewhere! This place is amazing and everyone is so kind. I brought in a bearded dragon who was very sick and the took excellent care of her and told me what was wrong, sadly she had parasites and cancer and I had to put her down because I didn't want her living in misery and they told me about the process and she went peacefully thanks to them. They also decorated her box which shows that they really care for the animals they take care of and I didn't feel rushed or anything they let me spend as long as I wanted with my bearded dragon and I really thank them very much they also helped me find a area where I can get healthy reptiles. We made the appointment from NH for pet move. They were able to see us Wednesday. Dr. Denton was very informative and made a great impression. His experience was very evident and represented dialog that cemented confidence and exceeded quality. We thought Tori was excellent point-of-contact from initial interaction Monday to explanation of services today. Much appreciation to her insight on how the different climate can impact. The only suggestion box item I would recommend for the office is addition of light grooming (nail trim). Overall 5 stars - great place. Dr. Hudson has done it again!! I have a Parsons Russell that has been suffering from allergies for the past 1 1/2 years. I took my dog to another vet twice, one of those times involved expensive blood work. My dog really was never treated. I was told to give Benadryl. After a lot of frustration and misery on my dogs part, I took my dog to Dr. Hudson. I showed him the allergy blood work and he immediately put my dog on medication. Woohoo!!!! My dog is not scratching and biting himself any more. He is so comfortable and happy. Thank you Dr. Hudson for helping my dog!! read more

We take all of our pets to Hudson Animal Hospital, and have since he opened. He's very straight-forward, yet caring. This is why our pets live long lives. When it is time for them to pass, from renal failure, cancer, or seizures, their passing is peaceful and calm. Their staff is very caring. Dr. Hudson cares for our pets so well, they do reach advanced ages. They send us reminders that the dogs need to come in for heartworm testing, and so forth. The staff is fantastic, and Dr. Hudson has added vets so we never sit in the waiting room long. He genuinely cares for and loves all our pets. He graduated from Texas A&M, and is a certified Emergency Vet. He is a thousand times better than our old vet. We'll NEVER go anywhere else for any reason. One of our best vet experiences yet! We were able to call and get a same day appointment for our 2 dogs. We arrived for our 2:30 appointment and were taken back right away and saw Dr. Hudson within 15 minutes. He was confident, explained things well and was very concise! With all shots and testing we were in and out in less than an hour. It is a bit pricey, but they do offer a 10% military discount, including veterans which was very helpful! I would definitely recommend this practice! read more

I leave one star and I'll tell you why. I first went to Dr. Hudson on a Saturday because my dog wasn't eating. My regular vet sent over their records including recent bloodwork. I had my folder of records with me also. The report on the blood work wasn't good enough for him so I okayed running those test again. I now believe it was just a way to pad the bill. Dr. Hudson came to the car and talked to me encouragingly and prescribed a different brand of Kidney support dog food. The office manager came to the car as well and said I could call her at any time up to a given time at night. Of course I felt good about them and had a follow up with them on the upcoming Monday for a 2 hour liver test. Approximately one month later I had another appointment for appx. 10 a.m. I called before because my dog had thrown up and was just lying around. The associate that answered the phone mentioned I could take him to Columbia. She did not say we don't have time for you today after all, take him to Columbia. Well, by the time I would have gotten to Columbia it would be my appointment time and my dog would not have to endure the drive which seem to make him miserable as he got older. I was there only ten or 15 minutes prior to the appointment, and they came to the car no earlier than the appointment time and rushed my baby into their clinic saying he was having a stroke. They did nothing for him. Dr. Hudson did not come out to the car but sent the tech to tell me of two horrible choices. Leave him there overnight alone for fluids or put him to sleep, alone in their office without me. No one suggested letting me bring him home with the fluids or call to see if I could go to Columbia and be with him the entire time. I did not think of this either so I could ask them to check. I sent a letter to the practice as they publish that they want to hear if someone was dissatisfied but no one replied, I called and left a couple of messages, still no reply. On another try, I finally talked to the manager. I didn't want to leave a review without talking to them. It has been my experience that this Veterinarian practice cares more about their money than they care about the pets. On the first Saturday visit I was told of a surcharge if they went over 12 noon. I got there around 11:20 - 11:30, and this was the day he had time to come to the car and chat. The extra charge for going over to approx. 12:15 was $125.00. On the appointment one month later when he did not come to the car to discuss a Stroke with me when on an appointment time I was charged for an emergency visit and had to ask the tech if the Dr. confirmed the stroke (and again, he did nothing to help my dog feel better). He even sent the tech out to the car to rush my decision because he was going into surgery. I was not in anybody's way out in the car holding my baby and I am disappointed with myself for not driving off to go Columbia to try and find a vet with compassion. They showed little compassion for my dog, or me. I half expect a rebuttal to this review.... but doc you showed me who you are and there is no undoing this. You have the choice going forward to do better by others' precious pets. You can still make lots of money. If I had the choice to leave negative stars I would have. As of today, 6/26/20 I see this practice has been in business for 7 years and THIS BUSINESS IS NOT BBB ACCREDITED. read more

If you are military DO NOT use this vet. We knew the process for getting our pets to Hawaii was going to take time, so we started early. Two weeks before our PCS we discover that the rabies vaccines given to our dogs over the last two years were expired (after another vet ran the lot number on the rabies certificates), making them completely invalid. Once we called Hudson, they could not even get us in to attempt to remedy the situation because the vet would not be in the office for TWO weeks! We are now looking at having to spend thousands of dollars to quarantine our dogs upon arrival in Hawaii and possibly not being able to take them at all. I would HIGHLY recommend avoiding this vet if there is any chance you could be going OCONUS. They do not understand the requirements for OCONUS moves, not to mention your pets may be given expired vaccines. read more

Today was the first time that I took my daughter's cat there. Though it was raining heavily due to Hurricane Sally, the staff was calm and professional as if it was a dry, stable weather day. First of all, the clinic had no animal smell at all!!! What a nice change!! They followed Covid 19 protocols by checking my temperature and having me signing a form, then took me to a room that was so clean and cheerful. I felt like the visit was for me instead of my cat. I wasn't accustomed to such a clean and comfortable exam room with a padded wicker loveseat at a window and cute animal decor. The vet's nurse, Nikki, came in to ask me questions which she documented on the computer, asked me if I had any other concerns, then weighed my cat. She consulted with the vet and came back with a print out of the fees for today's visit before they proceeded. Nikki was very caring, knowledgeable, and set the tone for the rest of the medical procedures. The vet, whom I think is Dr. Hudson, had a great personality. He didn't make me feel guilty or insensitive for wanting to declaw my cat to save our skin and furniture. I felt that my cat was in the best care possible. The 6 month supply of tick, flea, & heartworm medicine was the most expensive part of the visit, but it's worth it. It was a breath of fresh air to come to this clinic compared to the previous veterinarian clinic where the staff there didn't return my phone call for three weeks to even get on the surgery schedule. Coming to Hudson's Clinic was more than a refuge. It's where we should have been taking our cat from the beginning. NOT happy with this place AT ALL!! This place I'm sorry sucks!! I am so glad I didn't put my dogs here! I called them to put a 21 year old dog down and because she wasn't a patient, they told me it would be $250.00 IF I called back soon! Well My husband works nights so I called him because my baby was in massive pain and I wanted to do the humane thing, And by the time my husband called me back and I called my daughter and my daughter called these people right back and then was told that NOW it would cost us $350.00 cause she sent the vet home! Well just cause it wasn't even a half hour later should not warrant them charging another $100.00 for a dog in a lot of pain!!!!! And to top it ALL OFF, EVEN IF I had called directly back and headed right out, I live in Wedgefield so I still wouldn't have made it there by 6:00!!! So let me guess, I headed right out and then when I get there because it was after 6:00 my dog still wouldn't have been humanely put to sleep because you would have still charged me an additional $100.00 that me and my husband didn't have to begin with and was going to have to put on a credit card to do what was right for our baby!! Smh... You guys take a chance, I'll still with a humane doctor! These people don't give a you know what about animals if they couldn't have a heart for a dying dog. Just sad!!! read more

i like these folks. they seem to care about all the cats i've brought to them, and their help has been invaluable. but, a couple of things about their attention to detail concern me, and i'm wondering if anyone else has similar concerns or experiences. Most recently, yesterday, i took my kitten in for routine shots, and they weighed her, as they always do. According to their tech, she weighted about 3.4 pounds, which was the same as six weeks ago, and several ounces less than three weeks ago, even though she's been eating like a little horse. I brought her home and weighed her on my excellent kitchen scale, and she weighed 4.5 pounds. i don't understand how an experienced vet tech could make such an error, and why they didn't at least try another scale, when i expressed concern about it. anyone else? read more
