Original review below is from my visit on 06/17/20. Since then, this office has not attempted to contact me. However, they did post a passive aggressive Facebook status about my review being fake (attached) and doubted my being a patient (see screenshots of my appointment confirmation, photos taken while in the office that day and the follow up email from after the appointment). When questioned about that on Facebook, they blocked me and several others and deleted comments questioning their safety practices during Covid-19. I have screenshots of it all and will share as many as I can without violating privacy in this review. This is the most unprofessional medical staff I have ever encountered in my life.
Original review from Facebook (that the surgeons office deleted):
FYI for anyone needing surgery soon. I just had a really terrible experience at Advanced Sugeons PC in Grandview Hospitals Physician Plaza.
I'll start by saying the hospital staff has been safe, efficient and really helpful since I've been sick and going through testing. I went to see Dr. Barton Wood this morning at advanced for a consultation and upon arrival, was surprised to see the following:
-no barrier between myself and the receptionist who was talking on the phone and then working and talking to coworkers with her mask around her neck
- 2 patients coming from the exam area with no masks on.
-no COVID signage except to "wash hands"
-2 additional staff walking around behind reception and through exam areas with no mask on.
-all chairs in the sizeable waiting room were on one side, so social distancing as out unless you were able to stand.
I nicely asked about this and was referred to the office admin. She happened to be one that had been walking around reception maskless. Her reply was "was I speaking to you without a mask on"? When I told her I felt unsafe due to their practices, she walked me up front, refunded my copay and told me I could leave.
I went to second floor admitting reception and asked for help. I'm sick, I'm in pain, I'm tired, I need my gallbladder out, but with record COVID case highs in this state, there's no way I'll go back to Dr. Barton Wood or Advanced Surgeons PC. The kind receptionist called the surgeons office. They were rude to her as well. She called back and asked for Dr. Wood. After holding, he got on the phone with me (in front of Grandview staff) and told me he didn't require masks if his staff was 6 feet away from patients and if I didn't like his COVID 19 policies, I could find another surgeon. He was very rude.
Finally got to speak with a liaison between the hospital and the physicians who have space there and filed a complaint. They fully agreed that what his office staff is doing is unsafe and that they shouldn't speak to anyone that way.
I've gotten another referral for a different surgeon at Brookwood, but since we're still in the middle of a global pandemic, I feel it's important for Birmingham citizens to know when a medical office is putting patients and employees in danger. I've attached photos of the waiting area, where I was told they couldn't "make" people social distance. Why are all the chairs in one side? People seeing a surgeon generally aren't going to be able to stand around to keep distance.
I've also filed a complaint with my insurance company and with my primary care physician who referred me. If anyone knows of other local agencies who should know about this, please let me know. read more
