They have state of the art equipment, you feel like you are in a brand new gym. My PT, Courtney is so personable, definitely an expert in her practice, listens to where my pain is and adapts my program accordingly. She is a real gem! I've had physical therapy from a couple different places in NoVA(for different injures) and this is the most technology advanced. For example, I have an app which has all of my exercises and stretches to follow along and log process when I'm not there. Makes it so easy to ensure I'm not forgetting anything. I have been a patient of Andrew Gordon's for over a decade. When I say patient, I mean truly that. Each time I arrive for treatment, Andrew listens. If it takes me a bit longer to emphasize my point, he listens. His feedback, his direction, his understanding of where I'm at is most professional. There have been many in this profession who have set in stone ideas on what the problem is and what the only remedy would be. This man's jovial and down to earth conversation puts many patients at ease and this is most helpful. His work location used to be within a five minute drive from my home. When he moved to Falls Church, I opted to drive from Woodbridge because I knew that within a day or two I would be feeling better than I was at that time. When I first started my rehab at Advanced Kinetics my physical therapist was very attentive, knowledgeable, and made some great recommendations. As I continued the staff became aloof, didn't seem concerned solely on my rehab the busier they became. I did take a lot of what I learned and applied it to my home training. I ended up having a couple emergencies with my daughter, as I'm a single father, and ended missing a couple sessions. Not only was I charged an additional $100 for missing a session, but without any warning I received an email informing me the remainder of my sessions were going to be cancelled. I felt that things could have been handled a whole lot better, and I should have been given more warnings, rather then cutting me off knowing I still was injured, and dealing with consistent pain. read more

I visited this place for 4 months post op to rehabilitate my knee before disagreements between me and the owner led me to choose another place to finish my rehab. I neither recommend or do not recommend. Pros: Generally, the therapists here are certified, trained and know what they are doing. My rehab generally went well when I visited here, but I believe that I would have been better off going to another place (MMA Sports Rehab is better than them) Cons: Tight space, extremely stingy with money and do not possess the latest technological devices (for example, they do not own a BFR (Blood Flow Restriction machine) which is instrumental in knee surgery recoveries). To expound on our disagreement, I missed an appointment for the first time (a no-show). Keep in mind, that they had billed me $6-8K at this point and collected over $2.5K from me and my insurer by this point. They would not waive the no-show fee ($50) and threatened to not see me again unless I paid that up-front. I know what the agreement said, but come-on, treating someone who brought in major bucks to your business at that point for his first missed appointment; it seemed like they cared way more about extracting every dollar from you than your health. I hope they change their business practices and make a smart business decision that although may lose a couple bucks in the short run, will engage customers and earn their trust. read more

I'm so happy I found this place. If you are need of a physical therapist I strongly recommend seeing Sam. I have lower back issues and carpel tunnel. I usually see Sam once a week for treatment. When I first started physical therapy I was in so much pain I could barely sit or write. Since I've been seeing Sam I honestly can say I don't have any issues with my back or wrist anymore. I went here after my surgery last year for a shoulder labrum tear, in which I had 5 anchors placed in my shoulder. Advanced Kinetics is very professional and honestly the best physical therapy clinic in the Northern Virginia area. Clean, new equipment, and great physical therapists as well as assistants who guide you on your exercises. I especially would recommend Caitlin, who was my main physical therapist as she genuinely cares on helping patients fully recover by incorporating all types of exercises for strength rebuilding, flexibility, and range of motion. This is a great physical therapy clinic and I would definitely come here if you need any care, especially on shoulder injuries. read more

I have not yet been to Advanced Kinetics, so I can't speak to the facility itself beyond what I've heard -- which is that it is awesome, but I can speak to Kwang, Angela, and Sam's talent, and I can tell you that you couldn't be in better hands (literally) anywhere else. Kwang and Sam both worked on me a few times, and let me tell you, I wish that I could go to them regularly! They are all experts in their field, and couldn't be nicer people. They also have a great support staff, especially Tessa! Their reputation in the area is top notch, and they will treat you like family. I am thrilled with Advanced Kinetics! After 5 wasted months with another group treating my frozen shoulder a friend recommended this place (I went to the McLean facility). Kelly, my physical therapist, was amazing! After only 4 weeks I'm completely healed and can go back to the activities I enjoy. Angela, Sam, and Kwang have been great for my ACL! They are extremely knowledgeable and effective. My recovery has been progressing really well and promote an environment that is positive and comfortable for all staff and clients. health is wealth and i hope you won't ever need physical therapy but in the rare case that you do, i can't recommend advanced kinetics high enough. my husband has been going here for years for his back issues. a few months ago i was having terrible pelvic/sciatic pain at the tail end of my pregnancy due to the extra pounds and muscle relaxing hormones. i could barely get out of bed and walking was out of the question. i couldn't take medicine so my OB said PT might help. i was lucky and they were able to squeeze me in the day i called. the facility is new, clean, and modern. there are three therapists and the staff is friendly and warm. what i liked the most about my treatment was that the therapists spent a good amount of time with me and focused on helping me regain function by starting with smaller exercises that built onto doing things for daily life (in my case, that was walking). i knew and they knew that i was not someone that could be fixed in a day. baby steps, literally. i even returned after delivery for a few more sessions until my pain was gone and i regained my core strength and pelvic stability. this holistic approach worked for me and i think it really makes their facility stand out. they work with people of all ages and it's no wonder the the washington nationals go to them for their PT needs. they are great! * they also have a massage room and therapist in house! read more

I struggled wether or not to give them a better rating bc the therapist Courtney literally fixed my issue after months of seeing doctors. If it were not for her, I would give one star. Everyone there is very nice (previously having been to a place with all private rooms, It is a wee bit of a factory- she works on you 10 minutes and turns you over to an assistant who is monitoring 3-4 people) but overall I highly recommend Courtney. The reason I am not given them a great rating is partially bc of the"factory" and mostly bc they have a policy to cancel on the phone. I sent an email canceling three dates and was very specific the dates and times since I was not canceling all of them. The front desk wrote me back and said they would not take cancellations over email. I had an appt that day so when I went in, I asked why the heck they had such a dumb policy. I articulated that if you have shift work, or are ill and 8PM is when you think of it, or you are in the hospital and not sure if you can cancel during 9-5 type hours, this is foolish. Suppose you have to go out of the country one weekend on an emergency? They then tried to argue with me that it is was more efficient to cancel over the phone. This is FACTUALLY INCORRECT. It is more efficient to make appts on the phone but if you know the date you are canceling for, then it is more efficient on email. To be clear, I get why they would only make appts on the phone but not cancelations. She then would not take my in-person confirmation, so to her to cancel I had to pull up my sent email (That she had answered) and read it to her bc I did not have my planner or have it memorized!!!!! Utterly ridiculous. Now I am sure she did not make the policy and she was def not rude; but I have no patience for lack of efficiency and it really made me angry when she said it was more efficient to cancel on the phone. I would have rather she said it was just the policy. My guess is they want you to think of this at 9 one night but while waiting to cancel on the phone during Mon-Fri 9-5 type hours, you then forget, so then can charge you for a missed appt. read more

So a little history on my medical issues: I had a spinal fusion (L4-L5, L5-S1) in 2004. I was 17 at the time, and yes I was way too young for back issues, according to every medical professional who I've seen since. Without delving deep into the issues, the long-term effects of having a fused spine have caused a lot of neuromuscular loss in my low back and abdominal region. After years of working with different PTs, I have finally found my PT soulmates in Kwang Han and Angela Gordon. I say that because they'll probably be working with me for the rest of my life in some capacity. They differ from other PTs because of their approach. They are problem solvers, who look at the body as a whole and work with its entirety in order to get it to function properly. They have drastically reduced the tightness and back pain that I have lived with for half of my life. My low back is still a work-in-progress because it will forever be fused, but nonetheless, they've got magical hands/techniques that have improved my muscular control. Their backgrounds in working with professional athletes are a huge plus because they can consider how to help rehab you according to the sport you are involved with, along with getting the body to work the way it needs to (i.e. getting the correct muscles to fire and activate). The office has a contemporary and industrial look. The interior design matches the top-notch service that the AKPT team provides. The most advanced equipment is used for physical therapy. The best way for me to describe AKPT is that I think their approach and services equate to what you see on ESPN's Sport Science meshed with sports rehabilitation. I have recommended friends and fellow athletes to AKPT, and will continue to do so :) read more

I visited the McLean office. I was having lower back pain. Based on the reviews I thought it would be a good idea to see Sam. They billed me $290 for the visit before Insurance. The quality of the service was not worth $290. $200 for the office visit. $90 for the treatment. With Insurance discounted rate I paid $96. Still too high as the quality was worth less than $15. The tried to rush me out without properly treating me. They gave me a printout of a few exercises I could do at home. I could have probably pulled these off the internet for free. Overpriced Bullshit!!!! Did it help my back pain? No still in pain. I know it takes time for the pain, and my body with time is healing by itself. I was looking for PT to help expedite the healing and strengthen the back to reduce the pain. I would not suggest these guys as you don't get what you pay for. I would be happy to pay high rate if it actually helped my back pain. read more

All the staff at Advanced Kinetics are knowledgable and nice, and my PT Sam, in particular, has been my savior! For the past year, I've been dealing with lower back issues, the pain from which has severely decreased my quality of life and ability to work out. I did months of PT elsewhere with little improvement. Then, a trusted friend recommended Advanced Kinetics. I was skeptical but desperate, so gave it a try. The progress I made in a few weeks was remarkable and helped me avoid a steroid injection (yay!). Sam really spends a lot of time with her patients, is personable and knows what she's doing. She spends an entire 30 minutes working with you one on one - massage, manipulation or dry needling (extra charge, but effective) - and then your exercises are supervised by a very qualified assistant (and your PT still keeps checking in). The individual attention has been impressive and is much appreciated! They are equally up to date with their equipment, plus insurance and billing have been very smooth. I still have a bit of a journey to get back to my prior self, but working with Advanced Kinetics has given me a light at the end of the tunnel and I highly recommend them! Now I just hope they won't get too busy so I can still get appointments :) read more
