Good Doctor (Levine), terrible office. Always waiting for appointments, prepare to wait 30-45 minutes behind schedule. Also, don't even think about trying to call and get a prescription refill. 6 messages over 1.5 months and I finally gave up and called the billing office (they answered not surprisingly). Complained to the billing person who was the unlucky one to take my call and did a call back (miraculously) from the Setauket office manager. She said she could not understand what went wrong but would help me. She did not. When I did reconnect with her (yes, I had to call her back so 8-9 calls in now), she said my daughter needs to come back for an appointment to get the refill. She had been there six months before but needed to come back. This was for eczema and acne mind you. I wound up giving up on them and will find a new place. read more

Awful. I placed five different phone calls to this office about the same issue, the doctor told me to take two medications and there was only one at the pharmacy. It's possible the second is an OTC med but I forgot what she said. I called, once again, 5 times. 3 times I left a message and twice I spoke to someone in the office that said they would check with Dr. Chen and call me back. I never received any call back and it's almost the end of the second week since I first called. This office should be embarrassed to treat patients like this! I guess they care when you're in the office paying but not for your continued care if you need anything outside the office. read more

I needed something removed from my nose. My usual dermatologist didn't take my insurance. When I called to make my appointment, that was THE FIRST thing I asked. "Oh yes, we take your insurance" said the very nice lady on the phone. I made the appointment and was happy I'd be paying $35- not $60- I received the EOB from my insurance and it turns out, THEY DO NOT TAKE MY INSURANCE. I called Advanced Dermatology and spoke with a nasty man on the phone. While I was on the phone, he called my insurance company. He returned to tell me yes, we take your insurance, the insurance company advised him to resubmit the bill. Feeling confident these "people" know what they are doing, I kept my next appointment. Well, a bill arrived for $60- and today another one for that second visit. What I see, other reviews, this place is all about the almighty dollar and the heck with the patient. The nurse who takes you to your room had absolutely NO personality and should not be in an industry where she is required to work with people. I don't think one single person smiled while I was there...so unwelcoming! The wait time is absurd and maybe they shouldn't book so many patients at a time. I waited over an hour. Wow... I had an appointment scheduled that was booked online, and when I got there I was told my appointment was cancelled because the doctor is on vacation this week... a very rude tall woman barked out that she sent notices saying they were cancelled.. well I have quadruple checked my phone for texts, phone calls, and emails, and received nothing. They also said they had no one else who could see me (despite there being literally no one else in the waiting room this whole time. You know, it's one thing if a mistake was made (on their part Btw, because it shouldn't have been possible to book an appointment with someone who is on vacation), but they were extremely rude about it, and were acting as if it were a mistake on my part. While I would highly recommend Jie Chen the office itself is a disappointment. After being seen for about a year they all of a sudden require a referral. That in its self is not bad BUT they waited until we showed up for appointment to tell me. They spoke with me on the phone just a few days as go to confirm the appointment and did not mention it Now they say they can't see us. I insisted they see us since it was there error in not telling me about the need for referral and we drive all the way over here. They made me sign a waiver saying I will pay for services rendered today. What bullshit. My daughter needs to see the doctor. We drive all the here. Funny how almost every review for this place, is a one star review. I had an appointment here yesterday for 2:15, i left my house around 1:30 because it takes me about 35-40 mins to get there. I get a call from them, while i'm on my way there, that the doctor doesn't take my insurance anymore and that the other providers do but i'd have to be rescheduled for the end of November. I was pretty upset because i made time in my schedule for this appointment just to be called less then an hour before my appointment to be told that they don't take my insurance anymore. Very unprofessional in my opinion and it was very clear to me that the staff did not care whatsoever. I kept asking what they were gonna do to make this right and they basically told me nothing. So I had an appointment today for a consultation with the plastic surgeon. After signing in, Im called up to pay my copay. I ask 'why?' when its a consultation for one and it may not be covered by my insurance company. The rude office members could not answer my question and simply said 'we dont make the rules' Why would they charge my insurance company an office visit for something they may not cover, shouldnt the office visit fee be included or added to my charge for the procedure? They wouldnt let me see the plastic surgeon and square up the bill at the end of my visit. I have been a long time patient of Advanced Dermatology for years, never had any issues until I went recently for a treatment of the face (V-Beam) as well as Botox & fillers.. The Dermatologist I have always used had recently left the practice. She had done these procedures on me before as well as many others.. Now, a New Physician Assistant has taken over her roll. ( Jie Chen, MPAS, RPA-C). Procedure was done on12/08/2023. At this appointment I was very early so I waited in the car noticing The PA in her car adding make up. When I walked in there were appointments before me & Because of this I was delayed seeing her for my appointment 9:15. She was still in her car at 9 AM. She must have been running late.Her patients scheduled before had to wait as well-not a good start, but this is the least of it. So now I get the V-Beam. She assures me her technique for all procedures is like no other, that she will do the best job over anyone I have used in this practice. Next, I see a sign if you get a small amount of Botox 1 of the fillers will be half of the regular price $450.00. She felt I needed 2-sides of my cheeks where I have lines. In total my bill was over $2,000 & she insured me I would have major improvement-even gave me her Cell # if I had any questions for I never did Botox before.The V-Beam laser was for red lines I had mainly on my cheeks. I was told I might need a second treatment later on for another $600.00 which was fine for this procedure. Later finding out this procedure is so outdated and it is very temporary-all will re-appear. Well it has been 1 month and they all re-appeared. As far as the botox above my eyebrow she injected-now my left brow is higher than the right. The 2 fillers used made bumps on both sides of my cheeks that feel like boils under the skin. Later also learned from the plastic surgeon I visited, Both were not correctly massaged leaving me these huge bumps. Well, I contacted the office (DENISE) on several occasions and was told when Jie Chen, the PA comes back in she will discuss with her as well as the head of the accounting department. I never received a phone call back so hear I go again calling, 4 times telling me Denise was in a meeting and will get back to-Never did. NOT GOOD Customer service. While texting the PA she totally ignored me. (I have all the texts saved). Finally I had a friend try to reach Denise using another name, and what happened -she came to the phone. Knowing it was not me, she answered. I took the phone and Denise told me the accounting manager was working from Home and would get back to me the next. day. Finally got Denise on the phone days later. She made it like she did not know anything about any of this.. Just crazy. So now I am left with bumps on sides of cheeks. Going back on my review here-when I did go back to the PA she said, OH NO- you are going to need so much more fillers & would not recommend a facelift since this is scar free even though it will only last a year. She said (this all on 12/22/23)- I would need a cheek/Jaw line fillers. Now she never told me at the start. Why would I even start with the fillers if she did not tell me this. I am not made of thousands of dollars. PA. Chen, said don't worry I will make you look beautiful without a face lift. A few days ago I receive a voicemail from Denise that she had spoken with The Pa, Jie Chen & Said she would remove the fillers but still charge me the full price. I had recently seen a few specialists, and as I said before, they agreed, she had not massaged the fillers completely, leaving bumps. So now I will have them removed elsewhere & Still have lines going down, What a waste of money! Honesty should be the best policy- Not with this PA. Telling me it will not be costly. Then after seeing first fuller to then advise me I need much more to remove the lines. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I am a licensed clinical Psychologist, and patient care is of my utmost concern - I am appalled that any office and/or clinician would treat patients the way my family and I were treated at this office. 90 minute wait for our initial visit, for a 90 second appt that was mostly centered around scheduled a $4k+ cosmetic procedure and attempts to "upsell" pricey products. Fast-forward to our 1 month follow-up. I receive a call to confirm our appt in 3 days - once confirmed, they said "oops, your provider no longer takes your insurance," and offer an appt a week later with a new provider. Okay. I raise my concern about running out of oral medication (a simple antibiotic for acne, NOT a controlled substance or anything habit-forming) that has been helping, and was told after being on hold for almost 30 mins total that, oh well, they can't refill and I will have to go without until the next available appt that they offered me. As of now, I have been on hold twice for 15 mins each time to speak to an office manager- the first time I was on hold for almost 20 before the line simply hung up on me. Unprofessional, unreliable, and couldn't care less about the well-being of their patients. You didn't know 3 weeks ago the doctor I had seen was dropping my insurance? Please. read more

I give up, today was my last visit. 5:15 appointment, doctor didn't see me until 6:15. This place needs to get appointment times fixed. Everytime I make an appointment (third time) I end up waiting 45mins after appointment time just to be brought into another room where I wait another 10 or 15 minutes before doctor comes in. Also, front office staff are loud and talk about personal stuff, not professional. Get a window or something if you want to talk like that. People in waiting room don't want to hear you cry about your day. The doctors are nice but doesn't make up for the other stuff that is wrong here. read more

The staff are terribly rude, they talk about their personal business very loud for everyone to hear, you can also hear them complaining about how much work they have to do and how annoyed they are, which I think is very un professional. Also every time I make an appointment I arrive 5-10 min early to make sure I'm on time I always end up waiting 45 min to an hr after my appointment time just to be called into the room. I'm not one to write reviews but the service in this office is just awful. I booked my son an appointment in November and when we got to the office the receptionist had no record of his appointment. She stated there was a problem with the web based appointment scheduler and we waited 2 hours to be seen. When I called to schedule another appointment I was asked to schedule it online and was assured that the system was fixed. I waited a month and half to get an appointment at a time my son wasn't in school. When we showed up they once again had no record of his appointment and couldn't even fit us. By far the rudest office staff and the longest wait times. No matter when you make an appointment they are always running at least an hour behind. From the person making the appointment (after being on hold for at least ten minutes) to the receptionist, nothing short of NASTY!!! I think the entire office needs a lesson on customer service and how to speak to and treat their patients. As soon as I entered the office I was greeted by an extremely friendly lady at the desk, which always puts me in a better mood at the doctors office. The waiting area wasn't too full either and it had a nice, tidy appearance. I didn't have to wait long before I was called back to see the doctor. My reason for going was tattoo removal. The doctor and his assistant took their time answering all of my questions and thoroughly addressed my concerns. Best dermatologist for acne and I've been to quite a few for insurance reasons, offers much more then just antibiotics and accutane, Jie Chen does a procedure on my face eveytime I see here that makes my acne look significantly better the very next day. She's also the only dermatologist I've seen that has offered me anything for scar removal. Quick appointments as well. read more

I have been seeing dermatologists for ~12 years now for acne/acne scars and Jie Chen, Physician's Assistant, is by far the best dermatologist I have ever seen. I have been a patient of hers for ~1 year. Jie treats the whole picture, instead of just the obvious. Her bedside manner is superb, and she always takes the time to answer all of my questions. Jie truly listens to her patients concerns/points of view which she then takes into account when treating each skin problem. Jie is very proactive and attentive to detail. In addition to Jie, the receptionists and staff at Advanced Dermatology are always incredibly helpful and accommodating, even on a busy day. I would highly recommend Jie and Advanced Dermatology to anyone seeking a dermatologist! read more

Although a lovely person, this being Stony Brook, it seemed she was pursuing a $$ quota and her assessment was 2500.00 above the assessment I received by a 2nd physician's assistant I consulted with shortly after. On top of that, although the contact concierge apparently prides herself on knowing "her business," she didn't display ANY sensitivity in responding to this client's concerns. Everyone waiting is pissed Bc they have been waiting well over 45 and the staff is pissed Bc they are being yelled at for making people wait so long. I don't even understand this mess. There are about 100 other dermatologist available in the Three Village area that value you as a person and not make you wait upwards of an hour from your appointment time. They also have the audacity to charge you a 3.49% fee if you pay your co pay by credit card... I think that's crazy. I have to post a minimum of 1 star but even that is underserving. Debbie Rossi called to tell me I owe them money when I paid in full and have my canceled check (with their bank stamp on it) and my bank statement to prove it. It is clear that they posted the amount in the wrong patient account but that is a internal problem that I cannot help them with. Debbie is still insisting that I pay again?? The way she spoke to me and her attitude is rude and unacceptable. I've been seeing Dr. Jie Chen for a few months since I had a very bad acne and rosacea outbreak. It greatly affected my confidence and I was frustrated with other dermatologists who were unable to help me. After all the rave reviews about PA Jie Chen, I decided to try this office. I arrived ten minutes early, turned in all my paperwork and then waited almost 45 minutes before I was called. When Dr. Chen came in, she spent 5 minutes, max with me. I explained my issue and she told me that there was nothing wrong with my skin and I "should see a psychiatrist." This is a medical professional? She then stated that many of her patients have gotten better after seeing a psychiatrist. I almost laughed--it was so unprofessional--like a scene out of the movie "Idiocracy". Oh well, it was entertaining at least. read more

The office is not very clean. The upholstery on the chairs in waiting room are all stained- every chair!! It was disgusting. You can tell they have been like that for some time.. The glass curio with a few of their products was full of dust & products were knocked over. A dirty waiting room is very telling of the cleanliness of the office. Be Careful! read more

Office Staff, Manager, and Medical Assistants....AWFUL!! I brought my teen with acne issues as an initial patient in the fall. She was seen by Jie Chen, PA, who by the way deserves 5 stars! We are seen every month. I started to refer many family and friends to see Jie. I had a personal situation with a call back of a biopsy. Was given wrong info by the MA on a Friday, and called to speak with the office manager, Alexandra, on Monday. Of course she tried to reverse my aggravation, however when i questioned her, she laughed at me, which aggravated me more. She then put an MA on the phone to give me results and she was a cold B*^CH. The front desk (and Alexandra) is very chatty, about personal info, what they're doing tonight, etc. I stood at the desk to make an appt and was told by the Middle Aged thin woman with long hair, that she was too busy entering patient info to make my follow up. This is not how I want to be treated or anyone I refer there If it wasn't for Jie's dermatologic expertise, I would find another practice to go to. read more

So disappointed with the services of this entire group! I hadn't realized that this was a "Private" practice, I was under the impression. this was a "group" that explains why I could not get one doctor to sign off on a surgical procedure that I had gotten. Apparently if your doctor is not around there is no one else to assist you. I needed a note since my surgery required multiple stitches and I could not return to work since I work with a very behavioral population. All I got was " you don't need to stay out of work" from a desk worker! advanced has dropped the ball,, with after care for surgery... two calls I made to the after hours service center,, the basil cell cancer surgery would not stop bleeding.... did the ice pack & frozen peas thing still no stopping it,, called the after on call doctor chose not to get back to me... and yes the center called or text two times....i thank god it was not the real bad cancer,,,their on call after hours service is terriable... and i did hear from a very upset and caring ,, office manager melsia about 11.00am .... so some one told her about this all,, i never called back after Saturday's circus....my recomdation for cancer surgery ,, and if the chances u need after hours care.... or expect a phone call from the surgeon,, may i say i would pass on advanced....i have seen their skills drop in doctoring care,,, they years ago had the edge... i think not any more,, they dropped the ball also dr. fox ... u have down this branch is open on sunday 8.30 to 1. 30pm.... it is closed sir may i recomand updating ur home page site.....there closed up tighter than a bank.....ernie...p read more

This establishment has proven itself to become my absolute favorite among any care setting I've gone to. The staff is extremely personal and warm and I'm constantly put in a cheerful mood whenever I have an appointment. PA Jie has been the most phenomenal professional I've ever had the pleasure of seeing and I believe her talent and endeavor she puts in her job is truly rare and genuine.
