We picked up a very challenging 2-year-old rescue dog from the pound. We have had several dogs and have always managed to train them, but after 6 months of trying (and very little success) we were at our wits end, and then our veterinarian recommended Mark. Mark made the time to come sit with us, identify exactly what it was that we wanted out of training, and was very upfront and honest about any expectations and how long it would take. One of the major issues we had with our dog was that she was near impossible to walk. She would pull, jump, twirl, bite at the leash - You name it. By the end of the very first session, Mark had her reasonably walking by our side and no longer pulling us down the road! We have a full house and a hectic schedule. Mark always worked around our schedule, and always happily told us "I work for you - Whatever you need". He made himself available when we called for advice, and always had very good insight as to how to think like our dog and get through to her. On top of being great with the dog and the training, he spent hours with our children teaching them how to deal with the dog. He talked to them on a level they could understand and explained everything incredibly well to them. We recently adopted a beautiful dog from the shelter. Although she is very human and dog friendly, she was quite a handful and would bark excessively, jump on people, has destroyed many items in our home, etc. Mark came to our home to work with us and it was apparent from the moment he entered, he knew exactly what he was doing. She immediately responded to Mark and has greatly improved. Mark is very patient and diplomatic when it comes to owner education. He explains what he is doing and why. In addition, he follows up with us regularly to ensure things are going well and answers any questions we may have. We have attended group training classes in the past with our other dog, which is less expensive, however, the class seemed to just make our dog more excitable. Mark at Advanced Canine Development has helped us with our under socialized dog, Mr. Wee. Before bringing him to Advanced Canine Development, we could not take him anywhere. Mr. Wee would bark at everyone, other dogs, bunnies, anything and was not friendly. But at home he was a loving dog. He would not walk on the leash, but would constantly jump at you or pull at the leash. After 2 weeks with Mark, he is the perfect family pet. I just took him to the farmers market this morning. Mark was recommended to us by our groomer at Diva Dogs. We have a 5# toy poodle that is fairly out of control and was 3 mths old. She is/was hyperactive, aggressive and clingy. Those 3 traits just don't work in a normal household and Mark has done a remarkable job working with her. She will always be a handful; however, if Mark had not intervened Gabby would have been re-homed. We continue to reinforce Marks teachings and believe as she matures we will have a pup that will be a loved member of our family. Shadow is a 2 y/o Siberian Husky that we rescued from the AWL in Port Charlotte, about 3 months ago. He is sweet & calm at home and loves people, but was leash reactive, barking & lunging at every dog we encountered on our daily walks. Mark taught my husband & I how to work with Shadow to avoid this behavior. After just 6 hours of training, he walks calmly at our sides, no longer barking & lunging. He sits to be petted by strangers and has graduated to playing at the dog park. Mark has an innate understanding of canine behaviors & anticipating their needs, thus bringing the dog to acceptable social behavior. Met Mark from Advanced Canine Development and within 5 minutes my dog was doing so much better. I have a German Sheppard that would bark at anything, jump on anyone, was not listening , chewed the furniture and would not listen at all. I love this place! They have a great team. My dog is a little shy but they made her feel so welcome. She soon was comfortable with everyone. The owner really explains things and puts things in perspective so you can understand or if you have any questions.
