After moving to the area around 2010 this shop was recommended to me. And they were honest, fair and if something wasn't right they stood behind everything and made sure it was right. Then when someone retired this place started missing repeatedly. Whenever I had an issue before they looked at it gave me an estimate an then I'd get it fixed. But that stopped with the new replacement. I couldn't get a straight answer on what was wrong. Instead he'd say it could be this or this or this and we won't know if it's right until we just start fixing stuff and maybe we'd get lucky and fix the right thing first. And the cost would be around $2000 if it's not not right on the first try. And with that horrible and scammer type "estimate" I left. I went to several places and most wouldn't even look at my vehicle. Then I was sent to a totally new place. He looked at my vehicle and he told me what he would do. He said he needed to do a simple test and if he was right the repair would be like $60. So definitely not anywhere close to the $2000 one at all. I absolutely had him go ahead and it turns out he was right. Then a few months later I had an issue so brought it back to the new place and right away he found the issue and gave me an estimate. I quickly remembered I've had that fixed before. So I called up Advanced right away because it should be under warranty still. Especially sense I paid for the more expensive replacement part so it wasn't plastic anymore and that way it shouldn't break. (so many lies from that new front desk guy) At least that's what I was told. So the guy at Advanced looks up my vehicle and tells me that my warranty actually expired the monthe before. I missed it by a couple weeks. So I made an appointment for the new place to repair it. I've now paid for that repair multiple times! About a month later I was sorting through piles of paperwork and found and old repair receipt from Advanced Auto. I did a double take af the date. I got out my other receipts also. Lined up all my repair slips and it turns out it was still under warranty! The warranty only had a little bit of time left on it before it would've expired. So when I called up to talk about it he tried talking over me and double talk me. I said he could either pay me the amount I paid to the other shop or and he hung up on me. I called back multiple times and was hung up on. So I called the next day to let him know that I would randomly place a truthful review of my experience on any platform I could for the rest of my life. So here's to another truthful review of my experience dealing with Advanced Auto. I'm still taking my vehicle to the same place that didn't rip me off or try to scam me. And I've happily recommended the new place to everyone over the last few years. I also know for a fact multiple people followed me here and stopped going to Advanced Auto. I have used Advanced Auto Repair for a number of years now. I have been VERY impressed with the knowledge and experience or their automotive technicians. The communication between the shops and customer is also a huge benefit. Chris, the Service Manager, converted pertinent information to me regarding two scheduled repairs one 1 1/2 week time period. I was up in Brainerd for a golf outing and my wheel bearing went out, of course it was a Sunday so I dropped my car off there and left a message for them that I was stranded and it was an emergency. They were really busy but managed to get me in but no one in town had the part. They got it the next morning and installed it by noon, couldn't ask for better service! read more

Like a few others that have supplied review here, I was in Brainerd on vacation, and found myself with auto troubles. A helpless feeling when you have a trusted shop near home, but that is hours away and no way to get there. I selected Advanced after brief Google searches and reading a few reviews. My initial phone call left me a little worried when I inquired as to how busy the shop was and if I might get mine in for work. Upon explaining that I was not local and stuck in town, "Let me get it in here and see what I can do" was great to hear. The shop arranged a tow through a local company and they were great about giving my vehicle a look upon arrival, and kept me informed of their findings. I had an intermittent problem apparently, as everything checked out fine once they had a chance to examine my vehicle. Charged me what I thought was a very reasonable 1/2 hour of labor. And suggested that I may be coming up on a fuel pump issue based on symptoms. (It made it home and continues to run without issue, but I will be talking with my usual local mechanic about it, just in case.) The shop was clean and pleasant, and busy with a lot of cars in the lot, so I was thrilled that they were able to make time for me. Their willingness to help out really left an impression on me, and if I ever have need/opportunity for service during future visits, I know the first place I will call and/or recommend. read more

I had my car in 7000 miles ago due to the engine knocking. They discovered some internal damage in the heads. After ordering a replacement engine (cheaper than fixing the heads) they installed it. I didn't make it home the first time I picked it up. The batter cable was not properly attached to the frame and the car shut down. After a medley of similar incidents I finally got the car home. On my last oil change I discovered they had cut into the frame while removing the old engine. The mechanic neglected to put a subframe bolt. I was told that it "wouldn't affect anything but we can put one in if you would like." At the same time I noticed multiple nuts cross threaded on. And now today I crawled under to look for an exhaust leak. I found it easily enough. All I had to do was look at the bank 1 exhaust manifold and see that the mechanic neglected to put nuts on multiple studs. On top of that they stripped the block with one of the studs they did put the nut on. I can say with complete certainty that I will never bring any vehicle to Advanced auto again. Their shade tree mechanic ways that they demonstrated on my car have made me no longer enjoy driving what had been my favorite car I've owned. Kinda ruins the experience when your fixing the mechanics shoddy work every other week. read more

Vacationing in Brainerd (from Denver, CO). Our subaru lit up a check engine light, which is even less fun when you're far from home. Advanced Auto was great; they did quick diagnostics & code check (so we could maybe avoid a rental car). Turns out it was an o2 sensor and some rattling exhaust shielding (not related to check engine, but had been irritating for a while). They were able to get parts and get it all wrapped it all up in a few hours while we grabbed a bite at Perkins and checked out the nearby mall. My family was staying in the area and ready to head 2.5 hours home. Our car wouldn't start but we were able to get a jump. After the jump our hood wouldn't close, we called Advanced and they said to bring it in. When I arrived they knew what I needed, came to the parking lot and had it fixed in 5 minutes nevermind the -9 degree day. All for the cost of a handshake, these guys are the real deal. Don't bother shopping around, this place is the best. Stop in the office, it's clean and you'll get help immediately. From Dallas Texas area, In Brainerd on vacation for Mother-In-Laws birthday and scheduled to head to Duluth today for 25th anniversary. AC went out in car. Mike the owner super nice and worked us in, even though they were busy. Charged AC unit with freon and fixed a leak all in about an hour, fantastic service, fair price, air blowing ice cold.
