Jill & mom Foxxy

Omg, I can't begin to tell you how wonderful this place & staff were!!! My little 21 month old dog got hit by a car and had a head injury. It was awful. At one point my husband said she was dead. We are from Harlan and had ro drive 2 hours but they took the best care of her. She was there 2 nights and when I went to get her, they have me a refund ! Who does that? And to make matters better, my little Jill is almost like brand new ! I will always be indebted to them.

Our cat, Lewis, would not have had to suffer as long as he did if Dr. Cynthia Clark Boynton at AAC in Richmond had done her job.

We had a bizarre experience. The following is our true experience at Advanced Animal Clinic in Richmond, KY. It is owned by Jim and/or John Martin. The people we encountered are: Bridgett Maynard, a vet technician; Dr. Cynthia Clark Boynton, the veterinarian who examined Lewis; Jamie House, the office manager; and Dr. Allison Conner, a veterinarian who consulted on the case. We would NOT recommend Advanced Animal Care and this "family owned" business to anyone. Advanced Animal Care in Berea and Waco Animal Hospital are owned by the same people. We took our cat, Lewis, in because he was sick. We told them about how we basically thought it might be one of three things: Lyme disease because of the ticks. The most recent tick was hard to get out and Lewis still had a lump on his neck from it. It had been about two weeks since I had pulled it out and we were worried that the head of the tick may have remained and was starting all over in Lewis's body. (Dr. Cynthia Clark didn't feel anything because Lewis was a "fluffy guy.") The salamander. We have seen Lewis eat many gross things over the years, and he never had an upset stomach. We thought that maybe the fattiness of the salamander had not digested and perhaps was stuck in Lewis's digestive tract. We wondered if the salamander had secretions that were toxic and had irritated Lewis. We just didn't know. (Dr. Cynthia Clark noted that his abdomen was SOFT.) We thought Lewis might have had an inner ear infection. We truly were always cleaning out his ears. Literally, his ears were "waxy" almost every day. (Dr. Cynthia Clark, in all of her professionalism and expertise - 700 dollars worth - didn't even check Lewis's ears with an otoscope.) They suggested expensive tests before the doctor ever examined him. The doctor, Dr. Cynthia Clark - she may go by Dr. Cynthia Clark Boynton, finally said that Lewis looked okay for his age, he was missing some back molars and a canine-that was normal for Lewis's age and the fact that he did spend a lot of time outside hunting. She said, overall, she couldn't find anything wrong with Lewis. I asked her if she felt the nodule on Lewis's neck that the last tick bite had left. She said she didn't feel it in her examination, but said "Lewis was a fluffy/furry guy." ??? I asked if she thought Lewis could have an obstructed intestinal/gestational tract. She didn't seem to think so. She noted that his abdomen was soft. I asked her how his ears were. She said they were fine. I asked if she saw a lot of wax deep within and she said, "I DIDN'T LOOK AT THEM WITH AN OTOSCOPE." On Monday, we took Lewis to Berea Animal Hospital where the doctor said Lewis's abdomen WASN'T soft, but he had a palpable mass - the doctor could feel it with his hands - the size of a key lime. Lewis had surgery the following day and we said goodbye to him because his mass was spread throughout his stomach area and we did not want him to suffer. Advanced Animal Care initially charged us over $700 to say they couldn't find anything wrong with Lewis except his elevated white blood cell count. They did bloodwork, a SNAP test, and gave him an antibiotic shot. They said his abdomen WAS SOFT. Two days later when Dr. Long felt the mass with his hands, I called Advanced Animal Care to start a dispute on the charges. Dr. Allison Conner said this: DR. LONG WAS ABLE TO FEEL THE MASS WITH ONLY HIS HANDS (as opposed to Dr. Cynthia Clark Boynton) BECAUSE HE IS INSANELY TALENTED. Advanced Animal Care did refund us $212. I would like a refund of the remainder. I suppose I will take them to court for that. In the days that followed, I called all three clinics in an effort to speak with an owner. I left messages, but no response. A couple of days later, I received a letter from Advanced Animal Care stating that their decision was final and for me to NOT CALL THEIR CLINIC AGAIN. It was signed by Jamie House, the office manager of the Richmond location. Do not trust your babies with these people. We never will again.

This is the open wound in his eye they refused to treat.

I had moved away so hadn't been there for years, but when I moved back to the Richmond area I only wanted to take my fur babies to Dr. Walls. The vet I got wasn't him. I had a dog who was 16 years old. I asked for medicine to help him get around more comfortably during his last months, the meds I was prescribed cost $60 a week. I asked for something more affordable but wasn't given that option so I had to go to another vet for it. When it came time for us to say goodbye to him I made an appointment with them. They knew the weight of my boy and I had told them I would need help getting him out of the car. He could no longer walk and weighed over 100 lbs. She made the appointment for late in the afternoon at closing time, and there wasn't anyone strong enough there to help get him out of the car. The assistant and I did it together though, but once we had him off the back seat she dropped her side and I heard a good crack as my puppy hit his head on the pavement. Strike one and very traumatic for him. I filled out the paperwork on the package I wanted , paid, then went into the private room to say goodbye. Throughout it all I could hear them outside laughing, talking loudly and basically forgetting that I was there saying goodbye to my fur baby. I realize it was closing time but a little respect would have been nice. The lady vet came in after about 15 minutes and gave him the shot to make him sleep. She walked back out and the noise and laughter kept on. She came back a few minutes later to give him his final shot and was acting rushed about it. It was already a heartbreaking time for me but they made it so much worse. Strike 2. On the way home I got a notice from my bank for $100 over the package I selected. They had charged me for the most expensive one, even though I had told them 3 times and signed a paper stating which one I chose. Thank goodness for instant notification from my bank of I would have been screwed. It took me months before I could go there and request a talk with Dr. Walls to tell him about my experience and how terrible it was. He was sympathetic but told me that he had sold his clinic to that woman and was only there a little bit. I'm crying as I write this because it's still upsetting to me and I am still so angry at the way we were treated that had to write this yelp to warn people away from this clinic. Third strike and I'm out of there. We were nothing but a cash grab . I have since moved my animals to another vet and am very glad I did.

As I am coming to pick up my dog, an AA lady is leaving with her dog named "B" (changed for privacy.) The receptionist Gwen sees her leave and then proceeds to tell me the price for B's service. I'm sorry what? That's not my dog. She assumed because I'm AA and the lady was AA that we were together. So after she runs outside to catch the lady and comes back in I ask her "did you assume we were together because we are both AA?" She gets a really guilty look on her face and proceeds to say " Oh I'm not racist, I have COLORED friends." Uhhh WHAT??? For 1 I didn't say you were racist (your conciese must have) and 2 is this the 1960's??? Colored umm that's not an acceptable term ma'am. I proceed to tell her that verbiage is really weird and I would just like my bill. The more I sat there the more upset I got. In what world where I am calling myself AA would you think it's acceptable to call me colored? Also to justify your implied prejudice by reassuring me you CANT be racist because you have colored friends. Tell ya what, call your AA friends colored and see how long you are friends after that. So tired of the "I can't be racist I have black friends" mantra. Long story short AVOID "NOT RACIST" Gwen at all costs if you go here. We probably will not be back and will take our decade of patronage with us.

I have had animals my entire life and truly have never been as disappointed as I am with this vet…read more We took one of our cats in because we suspected he had bladder crystals and it turns out he did. We brought the vet a urine sample and he showed it to me under the microscope. It was all going well until he told us that we had to put both our cats on a prescription diet. We feed our cats very high quality wet food because one of them is very picky. The vet told us we had to buy dry kibble from him and could no longer give our cats the other food. He also prescribed an antibiotic to help with the stones, which we gave to our cat, no problem. However, after a week of our cats not eating the new food, I called and had them give us a prescription wet food, which they didn't eat. We contacted our old vet in Virginia and they advised us to try a different brand of food but they couldn't send in a prescription since they hadn't seen our cat for this issue. So on Chewy, I ordered the food and was waiting and waiting for the vet to approve it but they never did. So I called, and to my surprise, they just denied the prescription (without contacting me) because the vet "didn't know anything about that food." I was shocked! I told them our cats hadn't eaten in over a month, and when they did eat, they'd just throw the food up. They were visibly losing weight. THEN, when I asked to have our records emailed to us because we were no longer going to be giving them our business, they said they don't have internet hooked up in their building so they couldn't send us our records. Very strange that 1) the vet wouldn't do research on this food to try and help our cats after we paid them over $300 and 2) that they don't have internet. In 2022. I wouldn't recommend this vet to anyone. Check out Chevy Chase vet in Lexington if you're looking for a new vet. They are FANTASTIC!
