Five stars for my first visit. New to acupuncture and reaching outside my comfort zone. Found Jens Maassen L.Ac. MSOM on yelp and tried him based on the reviews. He took his time and did a thorough interview with me before my first treatment. He didn't try to up sell me at all, taking a "let's see what happens" approach and not telling me to wait months to know if it will work. So thankful for his upfront approach and honest demeanor. I started see Jens Maassen after my sister had received allergy treatment from him. She had serious allergies all her life, usually resulting in sinus infections and down time. One series of treatments and this allergy season was symptom free!! I initially sought treatment for food allergies. I had acne all of my adult life, after finally discovering it was caused by an allergy to sugar I decided to find out if the NAET process could cure me. The results are amazing! I no longer have acne and can imbibe in sweets too. With each chronic allergy we treated I gained more strength back. Then, I realized the possibilities....we could treat so much more. I'd had an exposure to MRSA and had sores on my scalp for five years. Jens treated me for the MRSA and the sores went away gradually over two months. And finally, I have had adrenal fatigue for 6 years, he is currently treating me now for it. For the first time in years I have felt energy and enthusiasm for life. I started dancing again...a very good sign that this chronic disease that I thought I'd have to manage for the rest of my life may actually become an illness of the past. We are still working on it, but I am very hopeful from the results I am seeing already. I'll provide an update as it progresses. His personal style is so kind, gentle, open, generous, humorous, honest, modest and focused, He is incredibly knowledgeable and has coached me in many areas of health, including juicing. I developed SEVERE seasonal allergies after moving to Livermore 15 years ago. By severe, I mean hives and difficulty breathing even with taking antihistamines. Add to that, 3 years ago, developing multiple food allergies, including nuts, seemingly out of the blue. These are foods that I had eaten regularly since childhood. My allergist called it Oral Allergy Syndrome. Her best suggestion was daily antihistamine and emergency epi-pen. I was not satisfied with that answer and began my own research with an open mind. Enter NAET treatments with Dr. Jens at Advance Acupuncture. Today (after 5 treatments), I feel like I can say I am cured of my food allergies/sensitivities and seasonal grass allergy. I haven't taken antihistamines in several weeks now (since treatment). I have greatly enjoyed re-introducing foods that previously caused oral swelling and mouth itchiness. Yes, I am even eating nuts again! Not a single symptom. And I LOVE going out to restaurants again without fear of a severe allergic reaction. But, what I am most enjoying is the freedom to play outside with my kids this spring and gardening without itching, hives, facial swelling and difficulty breathing. If there was a 6th star, I would rate Dr. Jens Maassen 6 Stars! I have been suffering from multiple symptoms such as severe seasonal allergies, sinusitis, chronic ear infection, buzzing ear, arthritis, stomach problems, asthma and difficulty breathing for the last 4.5 years. I have seen many medical doctors and have been prescribed many types of drugs from pain killers to antibiotics to steroid inhalers. I was very frustrated so I started reading books and publications looking for a less drug-based and a more natural solution. I read about alternative medicine and integrated doctors and how they provide non-medicine based health solutions. I looked for an integrated doctor and found Dr. Jens Maassen, an Acupuncturist. I went to see him in his Livermore office. (He also has an office in San Ramon). Dr. Jens started by gathering my medical history, and asked a few detailed questions about my health. He wanted to make sure he has complete information before he started any treatments. He is very professional and tactful in the way he asked questions. He gave me a lot of good information about eating healthy and eating more raw vegetables and fruits to maintain good health. This has helped my husband maintain better sugar levels resulting to decreasing his pills by 2 a day. Incredible! Dr. Jens later introduced me to NAET allergy elimination technique. From this process, I found out I was sensitive to many vitamins and basic foods you eat every day, thus the multiple symptoms. He has treated me for about 8 of the basic allergens so far and OMG, what a difference! The ear ache and ear buzzing are gone, the lightheadedness is gone, and the chronic shoulder and neck pains are gone. My stomach issues are much better as well. I still have a few sensitivities that need to be treated, but I am amazed by the immediate results so far. Dr. Jens spends time to listen to his patients and their health condition. He checks your pulse and tongue and asks questions before he does any treatment. He is very gentle and you don't feel the needles at all. His facility is very nice and very clean. It has a very relaxing atmosphere. I always have a great experience whenever I go there. I feel relaxed and energized after each treatment. Vanessa in the front office has the most positive attitude. Dr. Jens is amazing, informative and a great healer. They so kindly scrunched me in when my sciatica flared- up fiercely. By the next morning the pain was completely gone! Yens has been treating my food sensitivities amongst other things and I can't believe how much different I feel. I was skeptic at first and did not truly believe that he could treat my severe dairy sensitivity in one session. I have been severely lactose intolerant since I can remember and usually one bite of anything dairy I an doubled over with cramps and tummy aches. Not anymore! I tested it out yesterday and had a cup of creamy icecream at the Vine and couldn't focus on the movie because I was so flabbergasted that I didn't have any reaction to the dairy consumption. Couldn't believe it. I also always get a bad headache when I have even a tiny taste of beer but now can enjoy a glass with no weird symptoms... Yens also treated me for my grain allergy. I've always know that Jens is talented and he's helped every family member of ours at some point in the last 5 years... but today was a day I will always remember, I can eat again! The amazing Jens Maassen is helping my 9 month old through a variety of food intolerances. This week I was able to sit in his lovely office, and enjoy a rare and serene moment of my baby boy sleeping on my chest, while his body learns to reverse it's hate towards eggs and chicken. Because of Jens' I was able to SLEEP again! It's been a long 5 months since I've slept well, but I'm not looking back, only forward. After seeing an acupuncture clinic in San Francisco and suffering a serious burn from miscalculation I stopped all acupuncture for some time. Eventually the lack of patella in one knee, ruptured cartilage in another and continued pain in hips from body adjusting to the knee issues led to continued pain - especially during cold or wet months. As a very active and "must have daily exercise" personality, the body felt like it was giving out on me while I determined that more exercise - though very uncomfortable - would just work. I sought out another acupuncturist and found Jens/Advanced Acupunture in the East Bay (closer to where I live) and have been visiting for over two years. My first impression was utter amazement - the opportunity to review details, ask questions, listen to recommendations and also receive information (that is not just from a Western medical journa)l is more than anything I have been able to find in both the textbook physicians/specialists and naturopath offices visited. Then, to my surprise I do not even feel a pinch at any of the sites where needles are placed. This was another great surprise as other acupuncture offices I had tried but just contended I would deal with some of the pinching and pain from needle size. Finally, you will experience a complete calm - no anxious or apprehensive tension once Jens has reviewed all information, steps in the procedure and he explains any additional suggestions he believes are applicable to the individual situation. I cannot say enough great things about this office, the peaceful reception and Jens is simply masterful at what he does. If you are contemplating whether or not to try acupuncture, Advanced Acupuncture should be first on the "must have" list - one visit and you will want to return again for that complete body renewal. It is that fantastic!! I do visit once or twice but those weak body parts return to 100% operable without pain and there is no need to continue daily, weekly or monthly visits. I am literally pain free for almost another year before I have to schedule another appointment. Next year I hope to get in before the pain returns in hopes of avoiding it altogether - preventative methods should be the biggest payoff! Jens cured me of an advanced sugar addiction. Until he did, I never thought it was possible to give up sugar so entirely. I would crave sweets during, after and in between all of life's great moments. There simply wasn't a day that didn't include time for a sugary treat! Pepsi mixed with seltzer water was my preferred drink and I never shied away from dessert - chocolate anything and the more, the better. Since my treatment last year, I have been successful at releasing over sixty pounds and no longer have doctors telling me I am a "ticking time bomb" for a heart attack, brought on by Type 2 diabetes, which is now controlled by diet and exercise. I've grown to love my morning walks and find it a soothing way to begin each day. I feel more grounded and less anxious and angry and have Jens and his incredible treatment to thank for my (complete) recovery. Words don't begin to cover my gratitude. In my opinion, Jens is a remarkable healer, having the ability to sense what is "out of sorts" within our body. He is forthcoming about his treatment methods and explains every aspect of his treatment, allowing you to be a participant in your own recovery. Jens is the first Acupuncturist I have ever been to, but this is the way it should be. He first does a thorough intake and goes over any concerns I had with getting the treatment, and what brought me in for it. I had a place in my back that was killing me for days and another place by my shoulder blade that would not resolve itself either. After one treatment the pain and tight muscles were completely relaxed, those issues were resolved immediately. Jens is very concerned, and very gentle. Most of the pin pricks couldnt even be felt going in. He is a very nice guy and really knows his stuff! I recommend anyone go see him! I already have referred 3 different people for various conditions, and they are all very happy going to see Jens. Go check him out or at least call or email if you have a condition to treat. Jens is wonderful. He is easy to talk to and spends alot of time to find out what the root of the problem is. At my first appointment I was having migraines several times a month and also daily headaches and body aches. I have been going to Jens about 6 months and I only have one migraine a month and the daily headaches and body aches have decreased as well. The acupuncture is working and I am also using herbs (in pill form) that help with my daily headaches and body aches. There does not seem to be a health problem that Jens can't help with. At each appointment we discuss how I'm feeling in each area and Jens makes adjustments to target specific areas that are giving me trouble. Also, the herbs are working great and Jens knows exactly what to take for each problem you may have. I highly recommend Jens for any health problem you are having. He will take the time to figure it out and work through it with you. read more
