Jens treated me through two pregnancies. During my first I had suspected gallstones and my midwife recommended I do acupuncture. After 2 sessions all my pain was gone. For my second I had suspected gallstones again and it took a few more sessions but eventually the pain was gone. After my first pregnancy I also had my placenta not deliver so with the second, I worked with Jens to ensure I had no issues with placenta delivery again. I do not say this lightly - you need to run to Dr. Jens! I have been dealing with some kind of facial neuropathy for 10 months now which no one has been able to diagnose or treat. I have spent so much time and money elsewhere trying to get to the bottom of this but within just two visits, Dr. Jens cracked the code. Turns out I have a Vitamin B sensitivity (which he treated me for with acupuncture) but also a deficiency. He is so incredibly knowledgeable, kind, personable, and empathetic. When he talks to you, you really can tell her cares and wants to figure out what's going on. At such a young age, I felt hopeless and wasn't particularly looking forward to my future. But now, I am filled with hope and have an optimistic attitude toward his recommendations/next steps (PS - he is one of the few holistic/functional doctors who DOESNT try to sell you on something from his office). I had my very first acupuncture session yesterday with Jens and I am so excited to tell people about it! After realizing that my co-workers probably have more important things to do than listen to than my forays into alternative medicine, I thought "Ah-ha! This calls for a Yelp review!" My chiropractor (Dr. Pam at Absolute Chiropractic, review to come!) recommended I see Jens to see what he could do for a harmless yet insanity-inducing beeping in my ear that I've had for about a year. The result? While the beeping is still there, it is much more of a "background" sound in my head now and sometimes it's not even there at all! This is after one treatment; I will definitely be going back! Jens was great -- he and his office staff made me feel at ease right away. He explained things to me with easy to understand analogies and has a most enjoyable bedside manner. The office, a converted house, is comfortably and feels welcoming. It is warm in there though, which you'll be thankful for during the session. Jens made sure I would have no surprises during my treatment and also explained that acupuncture may not be able to cure my specific ailment, in which case, if I did not see improvement, it would not be worth it to continue down this treatment path. This man is legit -- he will not try to book you for additional sessions if it is not working for you. The needles-being-poked part was surprisingly easy. Jens chatted the whole time and only the first one hurt and even then it wasn't excruciating at all. After the needles were inserted, I was left in the room with the lights dimmed and soothing music and the sounds of a waterfall to relax me. It was a very peaceful atmosphere and definitely did not feel like I was a human pincushion. Besides this birds-chirping-in-the-ear issue I'm having, I am also looking forward to having Jens treat me for various other conditions, like my allergies and eczema. Both my husband and I have been treated by Jens with incredible results. I found Jens by looking for an alternative solution for my husband's debilitating carpal tunnel. We thought we try it and after about 4 acupuncture sessions, my husband was totally symptom free. since then, Jens has introduced him to a new dietary regimen that allowed him to get his blood sugar in check with supplements, cleansing and a healthy diet so that he is completely med and insulin free with normal blood sugar levels. I had a problem with intense pain in my shoulder so that I could not lift my arm and after a week of 4 acupuncture sessions, I was as good as new. Wish I could give 10 stars! I have never had acupuncture before. I have been dealing with severe vertigo for 2 years and have seen 12 different physicians. I had never ending tests including X-rays and MRI's, audiology testing, physical therapy, at home exercise programs, etc. I hit a plateau and nothing I did helped. I was unable to drive except for very short, local trips that involved no traffic. I had a number of falls which produced broken bones. All in all I was barely able to do anything without fear. Yes, Jens indeed uses needles but he's very gentle and it's really not painful at all! c) you have specific health challenges that you want to approach in a holistic fashion (or maybe your other docs just don't know what else to do to get you better). Jens has helped me to improve and balance my digestive system (and it wasn't terrible in the first place), circulation issues and back pain on several occasions (e.g. sciatica to name just one). Overall, the treatments I regularly choose to receive from him are balancing me so much not just in the physical sense but just as much on an emotional and mental level. My massage and bodywork practice has me knotted and tight in my shoulders and arms. On my first acupuncture visit to Jens I requested him to work on those specific areas of tension. The session was good, but the second session was amazing! At the second session I didn't make any specific request, I wanted to see what he felt and what he could do according to what he perceived needed to be done. That was the most amazing acupuncture session I've ever had. I could feel the energy work it's way through to different points and connect acupuncture pathways from top to bottom and left to right. I took my son to see Dr. Jens for chronic ear fluids due to a chronic running nose and I strongly suspected food sensitivities. I was very pleased to find out the unless the allergy testing our Dr. did, which was uncomfortable and gave no results, Dr. Jens' method is very pleasant and also confirmed some of my suspects and others. My sister recommended that I try acupuncture to help my back issues and improve overall health, but I was worried about the needles, especially sterility/cleanliness. After much research, I found Advanced Acupuncture Center and Jens Maassen. Their website provided helpful information and I booked an appointment. During the first appointment, Jens spent considerable time patiently explaining acupuncture and the process, showed me the needles, and encouraged questions. He asked questions about my health and background to identify issues that acupuncture could alleviate (e.g., stress was a major issue for me, due to my job). The acupuncture session itself lasted about 40 minutes, but we probably spent 20 minutes in discussion beforehand. Jens uses the tiniest needles, which were thinner than the average sewing needle. Jens is very gentle with the needles and, for the most part, just pricks the skin. There is the sensation of slight pressure on some parts of the body (for me, it was the front of the legs). I can't say that I enjoy the process (I hate needles), but it was not painful and Jens makes sure that you are comfortable. The result of the treatment was excellent; I felt more energetic and (surprisingly) more relaxed in general. Also, my back pain was reduced. The best part about Jens is that he really combines the philosophy of eastern medicine and the science of western medicine. His office is very clean and sterile but yet has a relaxing and zen feel. This is a hard review to write, everyone gave this place five stars, heck that's the reason I went here. I have never tried acupuncture and don't know anybody who has. I recently learned that kaiser and many HMO's offer acupuncture so I thought that added some legitimacy to this new thing to me. I made a appointment and they fit me in on short notice the next day. I met with Dr Jens and I liked his attitude and his sense of humor and professionalism . We spoke in depth of my back pain and he said he should be able to get me 60% -80% better on the first visit. Needless to say I was ready!!! His treatment took a little over a half hour and when it was over I felt no different, Dr Jens said I might feel the results by the next morning.....nope. So how to rate this business .... Nice facility with a very nice staff..... Sadly the service provided did nothing for me..... I understand acupuncture doesn't work for everyone so I'm not mad, just bummed . Lesson learned.... A million five star reviews doesn't mean it will be a five star experience for me. read more

I actually used YELP reviews to pick my acupuncturist! Jens is fantastic. I'm not a "new age" kind of person, but was dealing with some serious medical issues and thought, "what could it hurt"? Jens spent an hour and half with me going over my diagnosis, discussing his background, which is both western and eastern medicine. He discussed nutrition, allergies, and a myriad of other possible contributing factors that could be exacerabting my autoimmune reaction. We did some allergy muscle tests...and I'm a skeptic by nature, but WOW. It was eye opening. We did a series of acupuncture as well. I was on medication at the time, so Jens was very honest in telling me we would really have no way of tellling if the acupuncture was helping or not. I appreciated his candor. I do believe it helped, as I'd been on the medication for close to 6 months with no change. When we added in the acupuncture, I was flare free and off the meds within a month. Now, I have nothing to compare to this, but I do know people...and Jens is a good guy, very honest, very gentle. The facility is very relaxing and clean. I saw Jens to treat a chronic back problem which has gone on for about three years. First of all, Jens has an extremely professional and relaxed approach to healing, and was very careful to explain everything he thought was going on with my back and what the benefits of acupuncture are. Jens, the owner, is amazing! He is gentle, explains everything, and is not pushy. He answers the phones, which is great so you don't have to deal with receptionists not knowing the answers to your questions. And when I happen to miss him and leave a message, he calls me back within hours. Also, he is the one that does the accupuncture, so you know you're not getting some new accupuncturist, fresh out of school. Being a registered nurse, I was pretty sceptical of accupuncture, but western medicine wasn't helping me, so I figured I'd give it a try. I have had great results with Jens! His base of knowledge is impressive and he is not pushy with making appointments or buying herbs or supplements. Also, he explains everything and is very sanitary. I tried everything conventional medicine had to offer and did not get better. I had Pain in my hands from overuse, for 6 YEARS. I thought that it was low risk to try acupuncture. I am so glad I took the chance. I see Dr. Jens. The improvement is astounding! It was also surprising to me because it was painless, and incredibly relaxing. For Westerners is is kind of baffling to think that a few tiny tiny needles could change your life, but the treatment I have had in my 6 visits to date have changed mine. If you are on the fence I would suggest that you give it a try. I would suggest that you leave plenty of time in your day. After placing the needles you rest comfortably for some time. I generally fall asleep or drift in a near sleep state I have been surprised at how much time goes by. I am sure if you had a time limit they would get you out on time, but I want the long sessions because they are so helpful. A bit about insurance- mine allows 12 session in a year, it is covered at 100%. I really like Dr. Jens. He is a smart, funny, kind, gentle person.
