Multiple perspectives Close observation Targeted therapy Enhanced home program Rapid results After two hip replacement surgeries and physical therapy after them, but still having problem areas, my surgeon suggested that I try a different approach to physical therapy. I found Advance Physical & Aquatic Therapy. I could not be more pleased with my experience there. Multiple perspectives My intake process was supervised by the senior therapist. In addition, I worked with three other therapists. Each one of them made observations about my therapy and suggested specific alterations to improve the outcome. Close observation I was continuously observed, and corrected in the manner in which I performed the various therapies. In physical therapy, if you do not perform the exercises properly, you cannot get the maximum benefit. Targeted therapy In addition to such a general matters as balance and flexibility, as I progressed in therapy, the therapists found specific exercises which assisted me in solving my specific problems. After my two surgeries, although my leg lengths were physically identical, the abdominal wall on one side did not allow my leg to hit the ground as it should. One therapist came up with an approach which dealt with that specific issue, and which has now largely been resolved. Another therapist came up with a modification which allowed me to add that exercise to my home program. After the surgeries, I found it difficult to put on shoes and socks, because I could not rotate my lower limbs below the knee upward to the extent I should be able to do. A third therapist came up with an exercise which is massively improved that situation. For years before the surgery, I had been dealing with curvature of the spine. It had worsened to the point where it was difficult for me to button the top button on dress shirts.. Being increasingly bent over started to bring on esophageal reflux, which was extremely uncomfortable. Over the course of my therapy, not only was I given a general conditioning program, but I was given a very effective method to help ameliorate the curvature of my spine and the esophageal reflux. My situation has improved to the point where I do not have symptoms of reflux, and I can, once again, button the top button of dress shirts, and put on a tie in a proper manner. Enhanced home program Every physical therapy program with which I dealt has provided a home program, the participation in which is absolutely essential for progress in relieving any condition. Advance Physical & Aquatic Therapy took that process to a new level by the use of a specific app. The app not only lists the specific exercises to be performed at home but also lists the number of times the exercise should be performed at one time as well as the number of times per week it should be performed. The app also provides a short video, showing the exact matter which each exercise should be performed. Upon completion of the set of exercises, it sends a signal back to the assigned therapist. Rapid results I completed the program in under five months. Am I physically perfect now? No! But I leave the program, knowing that I have the knowledge of how to continue progressing, and how to maintain an increase my fitness. Prospective patients should also know that, in the event that they do not have access to their own gym, or have athletic equipment at home, there is an aftercare program available for people who want to continue at the facility. read more

Highly recommend coming here for physical therapy! They have a warm water aquatic pool that helped me a lot! I recently made the transition to land therapy. All of the therapist there are wonderful. I never had to have PT before I tore my rotator cuff and bicep muscle. My GP suggested the Springfield APAT facility and I am totally satisfied. The therapists all have friendly and professional attitudes. Most important, the therapy worked for me. They showed me exercises and the proper way to do them. Advance Physical & Aquatic Therapy offered me comprehensive treatment for my injury. I was evaluated during my first session, and goals were established. My progress was monitored, measured, and evaluated, and my treatment regimen was taylored each session to address my specific needs. The entire staff is extremely helpful and professional. The therapists were readily available to answer any questions that I had, and always worked with me to be sure that I understood each phase of my physical therapy. Advanced Physical & Acquatic Therapy has been fantastic. I've seen them a few times - originally back in 2012 for a torn shoulder and most recently in 2018 for issues with my lower back and hips. The therapists are all professional, committed, patient, and motivation and can properly balance conditioning/strengthening/stretching with pain relief. Even though my appointments were traditionally at busier times, the therapists worked individually with each patient and staggered activities to make that time productive. The facility is clean, well lit, spacious, and in good condition. They offer both land based and therapy pool based sessions. I am unfortunately facing another procedure and lengthy recovery but will definitely be back to see them when I am cleared medically. Cole, Ryan, Josh, and the other APAT staff are great! read more

I highly recommend Advance Physical & Aquatic Therapy. I just finished my rehabilitation from my total knee replacement. In only 6 weeks I am now able to bike, garden, hike and walk my 2 adorable Yorkies. The team of professionals are caring and supportive. They were able to tailor my rehab. and recovery plan to my needs and my daily activitie. Upon graduation, I was given a specialized exercise plan for me to continue my success at home. This was my third time rehabilitating an injury or surgery. The Aquatic pool is a great way to rehab. without all the weight bearing pain. read more

I've had 2 extended episodes with Advanced Physical & Aquatic Therapy- primarily with Ryan about 8 years ago after hip replacement surgery, primarily with Josh over the past few months recovering from lower spine and sciatic nerve problems after a fall. I have never been an easy case--- I had waited so long to actually replace a rotten hip that I had basically forgotten how to walk properly, and recovery from the sciatic/lumbar injury had to be a challenge in the context of never-ending other residual arthritic problems unrelated to the injury! The progress in both cases, while excruciatingly slow for me [context--- about 4 months ago, I was unable to walk 1/4 block or stand for more than a minute without very serious pain but now I am doing 5k to 5 miles continuously, limited by rotten aerobic stamina due to the total sitting-only time for months] was continuous and ultimately phenomenal. Exercises progressively harder [note to myself... never suggest to your PT that the exercise seems a bit too easy]--- they pushed, but not too hard. They really did seem to care- 2 years after the first sessions had ended, one of the owners saw me at Iron Hill and came over to me to ask how I was going! Springfield location (Baltimore Pike across from Giant) is needed for aquatic therapy, but both (new Marple location on Parkway near Lawrence Park included) had plenty of other equipment. In the not unlikely event that this body needs PT again sometime in the future, there is no question where I will go! read more

I have been to various physical therapists over the years and this one is the best by far. They take time to truly individualize your situation and explain everything to you as you move along and progress. I actually enjoyed going to PT, and in addition to aiding in my recovery, they taught me things that will hopefully keep me going in the right lifelong direction. It is a homey & friendly atmosphere. Although I didn't utilize their aquatic therapy, it is offered and not readily available elsewhere in the area. I highly recommend them for sure. read more
