I got three estimates, one company was more interested in doing my masonry, the other company was trying to give me the hard sell, "what do you need to think about?" A1 had copies of their Insurance & license in their packet. The other guys, "yeah, we've got that." Dennis knew a ridgeline vent wouldn't work on my install. The other companies said I had to install it. Everything I read said you don't mix an attic fan with a ridgeline vent. The last company, (Brothers Aluminum) said, "We're a GAF gold installer, 25 year GAF warranty, what do you need to think about." He was so arrogant that when he left I called GAF tech line. They said "A1 Roofing is right, Brother's Aluminum is wrong. You don't mix a ridgeline vent and attic fan. We have a technical bulletin on our website." Go with A1 Roofing, I shouldn't have to become an expert on roofing systems, and neither should you. A1 Roofing knows what they're doing.

I gave my deposit and then was called several weeks later and said they could not do the job for that amount due to the rise in prices during COVID. The prices had already gone up when I was given the estimate, so I didn't understand why the sudden change. I think they realized that the estimate was on the low side. They will be sending me back my deposit, putting it in the mail tomorrow morning. I just don't think this is good business. And even if they came back and said they would do the job for the original estimate I still would not go with this company. All comments are welcome. Eddie the guy that gave me the estimate called me this morning and apologized for the mistake. Due to the COVID issues, which is like Eddie said is no ones fault everything has gone up tremendously. They were hacking away at the ice with hammers and the house was shaking so I made them stop before finishing. I felt much more comfortable with just the raking. Once the snow melted, I noticed dents and paint chipping on the gutters. Mind you, I just had the house painted the summer before this winter so the paint on the gutters was fresh! I let it slide because I thought I could just paint over it, but then I had a roofer look at a skylight on another part of the house and while on the roof he noticed that the shingles had also been damaged as well as an area of the drip edge where they had been hammering. Mind you I have a new roof in good condition! I was displeased at this point, but when I made John aware of the damage, he promised to come out three times and never showed. When he finally did show up he denied that they had anything to do with the damage and told me that they had removed ice dams in other locations. When he had come out to look at the job, I pointed out the bay window, which was leaking, above which the worst of the ice dam was! And I was here when his workers were hammering away, and I know they were working on the same spot where the damage was. He just does not want to pay for the damage, given how extensive it is. This guy has no integrity when something goes wrong. I would not do business with him. I'm sure he's fine if everything goes right, but sometimes things don't go right. He seems really nice before he takes the job and makes a lot of promises, but he just wants the sale and doesn't care about the quality of the job. My other concern is I'm a single woman trying to take care of my house by myself. There is no man here and I feel like he feels like he can take advantage of that and there are no consequences.
