It seems like maybe we got lucky with timing, but we just walked in and booked a package. They push hard to add on a photo package. I said no thanks. They ended up dropping the price some and bumped us up to the VIP package. They can definitly neogiate on price! Swimming with the dolpins and manatees was very cool. We also really enjoyed snorkeling with the sharks and sting rays. The package was nice. The buffet food was fine enough. I'm glad we came here. We had a fun easy day on Isla Mujeres!

The photos and descriptions make it seem like you'll be snorkeling in an enclosure with a handler…read moreand their dolphin. They even sell upgraded experiences for longer times and two dolphins. The truth is they run 2 encounters per day and you'll be there with 50+ other tourists. There's a big upsell at the beginning as they try to persuade you to buy a photo package and/or upgrade to the Garrafon VIP package if you bought a combo ticket. (Be aware that ferry to Garrafon is $15/person extra vs a cheap cab ride.) There's no pre-encounter video or briefing explaining their mission or the experience. They don't even make the effort group the gringos together so that the handler can speak in English - and 40 minutes is a long time to wonder what they're saying in Spanish. It seems that you're grouped by which package you paid for, but we paid for the single dolphin experience and ended up in a group with two. They split you into a half dozen groups and then station you around the perimeter of the enclosure. The handler then leads you down to a submerged metal platform (trust me - you'll want reef shoes for this!) to stand in a line. They provide some commentary about dolphins and then swim the animal back and forth to allow everyone to pet it. Each person will then have 3 interactions: fin/handshake, nose-to-hand targeting and a dolphin kiss. If you didn't buy the photo package, they'll make another attempt to sell you this. You can hang out around their pool in lounge chairs and even grab lunch (depending on the ticket type you bought). It's an OK experience if you have kids or really love dolphins - just not a fantasy experience.

Jesús, Fernando & Sergio truly provided the absolute best experience I've had, not just in Mexico,…read morebut out of all the times I've been snorkeling. They were extremely knowledgeable, friendly, funny, safety oriented & made an effort to make sure that all guests had an amazing time. My group had just missed the ferry (coming in from Cancun) and they still accommodated us & made sure we made our reservation when they had no obligation to. Not to mention they were extremely responsive & easy to communicate with during this whole fiasco. They brought us to absolutely stunning locations & I have never swam with as many schools of fish as I did during this tour. Jesús was even willing to help me get a closer shot of the underwater statues. They educated our group on best practices to preserve the reef (which I already am aware of, but appreciate for the less-informed) & stopped the boat when a plastic bag got caught in the wind so that they could fish it out to reduce on ocean plastic (I am very keen on leaving as little of an impact on the world we live in). We were served sandwiches / ceviche + totopos for lunch and water / margaritas were provided. Their thoughtfulness, mindfulness & willingness to provide the absolute best experience truly outshined any excursion I have done in the past. Their service is truly unparalleled. Would highly recommend - thank you for the amazing experience!!

We had a great snorkeling tour with Island Adventure Mexico. We were able to book a trip the day…read morebefore at a much more affordable cost than what our hotel had to offer. Ended up being around $45 per person. Seems like the reviews are more favorable on TripAdvisor. It started off a bit disorganized at first, but we finally started boarding and ended up stopping by three different reef spots along La Isla Mujeres. The current were strong but we had two guides looking out for us and taking underwater pictures for us (still pending). Boat included bottled water, margaritas, and tequila. We made sure to tip well. Lunch was included in the price at Playa Tiburón, which took place after all the snorkeling (thank goodness). Coronado fish, veggie slaw, rice, and butter spaghetti, corn tortillas, spicy sauce and salt. Our guides helped with prepping and serving lunch. Overall, we had a fun time with Island Adventures Mexico!

My group wanted to do snorkeling and at first I was going to go with a place off Viator but Reddit…read moresteered me to Casa del Buceo - it's a small locally owned business and the prices are very fair compared to other places. For reference, a private group of eight on a 2 hour snorkeling tour was 1500 pesos per person. I think we could have done 2.5 hours but more on that later. Booking and confirming the reservation was a breeze - I did it all over email but they also have WhatsApp. Two days before our scheduled date, they asked to push it to a day earlier because the weather was looking bad the morning that we requested so I felt very reassured that they were keeping an eye on the forecast. Now I've only gone snorkeling once before but the snorkeling around the island gets pretty choppy with the waves. I'm saying that as someone who gets seasick at the drop of a hat and even thought I took medication before this trip, I still got super seasick as soon as the boat stopped and we were just swaying around and putting on our fins. Getting in the water and seeing all the cool fish (the visibility was great) helped but by the end of the second snorkeling stop (where they took us out much deeper and the waves were ROUGH), a few others and I were basically green and we called the end of the tour and headed back. I can't say enough good things about the people who work here, from the guy who helped get us set up with our equipment and later brought me a mug of super fizzy Coke to help settle my stomach to our tour guide who pointed out neat things below us (like the underwater sculptures at MUSA). I will say that the actual mechanics of snorkeling was a learn as you go approach - we didn't get much instruction other than just to blow on the googles if they fogged up - so unless you're an experienced snorkeler/swimmer, you might spend the first ten minutes accidentally gulping salt water. Once I did get the hang of it, it was a lot of fun. And even though the open water got terrifying near the end and, despite my nausea, I was fighting back fears of being swept away on the current, I felt safe that our guide was somewhere close around us. I don't think snorkeling is in the cards for me in the near future but for anyone else who's interested, I can't recommend CdB enough!

Casa del Buceo kept $120 USD of our deposit, and did not provide any service. Why not a full refund? That's a good question. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place. Unless you are going same day when the weather is nice, maybe the team is good, but I wouldn't reserve in advance again with them due to their lack of flexibility.

Absolutely horrible experience…read more I had booked a private transfer from Cancun to Playa Mujeres. I arrived and there was nobody waiting for me. I therefore had to use my phone in Mexico (something I was not planning on doing) to contact the Tour Operator. I was told there was an issue with the reservation getting into their system and to hold on. After about 20 minutes they told me that it would be at least an hour before they could get anyone to me. That they would cancel this trip and issue me a refund and that I could find a Taxi. Obviously I would not use this company to return to the airport and booked with a different company. Now, had this company wanted to even attempt to make things right, they should have informed me to book a taxi, and they would pay for that taxi. The trip I booked via Viator was $118. The Taxi Cost me about $147 for one way and the return trip with a different company was $75. So, essentially this company could have offered to pay for the taxi (they would not have had to pay for the cost of their driver or their transportation). So, for maybe an out of pocket expense to them of under $100 they could have maybe had a little better review. But, I did request and get a refund. The company responded to me, "We apologize, there was indeed an error in the automated system entry; however, we have approved 100% of the refund. We regret the inconvenience and remain at your service. Best regards!" User beware if you are using this company.

Highly recommend booking an excursion with CA Tours. The staff was prompt, professional, friendly…read moreand knowledgeable about everything. My group of 6 got picked up in a fairly large fan. We chose the Cenotes, Mayan ruins and snorkeling excursion. The $170 excursion included lunch, cold water, snacks, transportation from our resort in Playa Del Carman, tour guide. The 3 part excursion lasted from 745 to 3 PM. Highly recommend bringing towels, bug spray, water proof phone case, snacks and if you choose the Cenotes bring a flash light if you arent a fan of the dark. My friends and I really enjoyed our experience. Everything was organized. We had plenty of time to ourselves to explore and overall we felt really safe. We booked on Trip Advisor to get the price of $170. I'd recommend going through maybe your resort or hotel to see if you can get an additional discount.
