Full disclosure: the basis for the following review takes place a 2-3 years ago (...I'm really lazy…read moreat Yelp reviews) so they might have gotten their shit together since then. Highly doubting it though. Pacific Builders was hired by our landlords to replace the siding and windows on our apartment building, and the entire process was a complete cluster-f*ck. Many members of my family are licensed contractors, so I tend to hold other contractors to a pretty high standard, however, I was shocked at the unprofessionalism and inadequacy of Pacific Builders. Most importantly - they left our yard covered in rusty nails. We were picking handfuls of them at a time up for weeks. I called them numerous times and was constantly ignored - either they wouldn't pick up the phone or I was told I would receive a call back shortly, which I never did. Next, I'm not sure some of them have ever touched a hammer before this job. While installing siding around on our front wall, they must have chosen the wrong nail or something, but they drove the nails too far, causing them to poke out a few inches into our living room. We had to ask them multiple times to patch the holes. They also somehow caused major cracks in the drywall on the inside (still haven't figured that one out) - the crack above the bedroom window they brushed off, and told us to talk to our landlord about, while the crack below the living room window they spent about a minute painting over it... with white primer, on a cream colored wall. And left it like that. THANKS, that doesn't look tacky as all hell AT ALL. Possibly one of the biggest issues: when they pulled the old siding off the front they found a lot of what was under it to be rotted. Their solution? Put some plywood over the worst looking bits, then the new siding. Totally fixes the issue, right? If you're reading this review, I'm assuming it's because you're considering hiring Pacific Builders to do some work on your house - please, go literally anywhere else. Pacific Builders are some of the sloppiest workers I've encountered. Don't waste your money on them.

For both jobs there was some additional work that was needed that became apparent in the course of the job, and they explained what they'd found and what my options were before proceeding. They're not as cheap as some companies but I appreciated that the quotes were right on-target. Thomas is a fully licensed contractor, and carries full insurance for both liability and worker's comp - important to me as a homeowner. I would definitely recommend Northlands Construction for any job in the Humboldt area.

Travis at Humboldt Renovation and Design is someone you can trust and gets the work done in a…read moretimely manner. I found Travis through the Yelp "My projects" section where I was trying to find a contractor to help us fix a leak in our guest bedroom. We couldn't find where the leak was coming from and I was trying to get price estimates from different contractors to solve the problem. Most of the contractors said they couldn't give a real estimate till they started doing the full project which seemed understandable. What stood out about Travis though is that he made the effort to say for $100 he would assess the issue by cutting out a piece of my drywall and give me a proper estimate. My fiancé and I were on board and happy to see someone take initiative like Travis. Travis then went on to find a pinhole leak in one of our old copper pipes and he right away gave us an estimate that was much more reasonable than other contractors we spoke with. Travis went on to fix our leaky pipes and found out that we replaced the wrong pipe. There was a pipe above the one we saw that was actually the cause of the leak. Travis messaged me and said that he would only charge for the additional pieces (no additional labor for his work), which was super generous and understanding of him. We got this repair done and out of the way in an efficient manner thanks to Travis' diligence. My fiance and I are now having Humboldt Renovation help us replace carpet in our house for "hardwood" vinyl, replacing our shower, and putting in a new dryer vent. I additionally want to add that I has also asked him to replace both of our garage door openers which we signed up to do and later on found out it was covered through our home warranty program. Even though I already signed for Travis to do the work, he was very understanding and let us get the repair done instead by our home warranty service. Humboldt Renovation and Design will be the only contractor we will be using around our house. He is a great person with a sweet family and does great work. Thank you Travis!!!

The owners came over to our house to assess the damage. The are professional and friendly. The following day they sent over a crew member who was very skilled, conscientious, and personable. Tomas Salinas, the owner of Heartwood, is a perfectionist when it comes to construction, and it was obvious that he took great pride in the finished product. He added special touches that weren't in the original contract, such as copper flashing in the chimney and attractive bases for the outdoor lighting fixtures. The subcontractors were among the best. Tomas made sure that the construction site was organized and cleaned up each day. I had never hired a general contractor to build a house, so I hired an inspector to check out the work as it was progressing. When the house was complete, the inspector told me that he was very impressed with the construction, and that he had never seen a home built where there weren't any problems or issues. My home was the first.
