Many of the businesses along this seedy stretch of Roosevelt tend to blend together, thus it's becomes a little too easy to miss Adolfo's, a neighborhood liquor store. It's conveniently located next to the 52nd street subway station and open till 10pm every night.
While it doesn't look that big from the outside, it is deceivingly spacious on the inside. It's rarely ever crowded, which makes this place an easy stop before / after dining out. Things are organized and mostly easy to find, though the staff is helpful in helping folks find what they need.
They carry all the major brands of spirits, whether it's whiskey, vodka, rum, tequila or gin, it's all mostly here. Whiskey selection is decent with a nice mix of bourbon, Scotch and some quality Irish choices. The same bodes for tequila and rum, at least with the mainstream brands.
They have a large wine selection, which has a good amount of (chilled) every day bottles and from various regions in California and Europe. There isn't more than a dedicated wine shop, but the selection is decent enough for someone who just needs something on the way to a meal.
Prices aren't backbreaking but Woodside is not necessarily a destination for cheaper liquor. I appreciate the staff that works here, as they're approachable and helpful without being too pushy. Credit card is accepted and phone calls to confirm inventory is always recommended. read more
