On our way through the Adirondacks on a day of leaf peeping we came across the Adirondack Hotel and stopped for a bite to eat. We were pleasantly surprised and love the Adirondack decor inside. Built in the 1850's this well preserved hotel takes me to an era reminiscent of Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt. A clear mix of rustic Adirondacks and Victorian design.... Wait we were here to eat but lost in the decor. Perfect for a brisk day I ordered a cup of their Butternut Squash Soup with a Turkey Melt. Both were very good. With few places to eat and the peak of leaf peeping season seats were quickly scarce but we didn't mind eating at the high tops in the bar area. Any wait was distracted as we looked around at all the decor and planning our next visit to stay at the hotel for the weekend sans kids. read more

We had a large party - we made reservations and they gave us a large space on the covered deck. Our server (owner's granddaughter) was helpful, accommodating, kind, patient and she had an excellent system to have us each pay for our own meals. She made it simple and fun! She was humble and helpful. I guess the service was fabulous! It just took a really long time to get our food. Husband and I stopped at the Adirondack Hotel on Thursday, June 26, at 11:50 am. We had just checked out of an amazing stay in Tupper Lake and thought we'd look into rates for a room for that night. As I walked in first, my husband stopped in the foyer to read posters about local events. The young woman at the desk looked at me, and yelled, "Are you here for lunch? We don't even open until noon!" Taken aback by her nasty tone, I said ask my husband. He stared at her and said, "I think we've seen enough, thanks" and we walked out, shaking our heads. I have no idea why she was so loud and nasty, as we have eaten here several times after taking plane rides and never had an issue. We ended up driving to Old Forge, where we stayed three nights. This woman needs to rethink her approach, tone and delivery. I do not care to return here again. I cannot imagine speaking to potential customers like that, as soon as they walk in! read more

Made a quick stop on the way to Lake Clear to grab lunch. Not too busy at 2:30pm. Concise menu, everything sounds good. Our table ordered a cup of the seafood chowder, the shrimp and lobster flatbread, and the CBR wrap with the breaded chicken. Thumbs up on everything. I personally had the wrap - all ingredients were fresh, and the chicken was really flavorful and not dry at all, vegetables were nice and crispy. Service was a bit abrupt, but for the quality of the food I'm not too bothered. Prices are a little high, but I think this is probably to be expected. I'd definitely come back! read more

This past weekend I hosted a bridal shower at the Adirondack Hotel in their Victorian dining room. Jen was a pleasure to work with through all my planning and helped me bring my vision to life! They served a DELICIOUS brunch and the staff who worked the party was a delight! Pricing was extremely reasonable and the amount of food was plentiful! *This review is for the restaurant* Came on Columbus Day and was just happy to see we won't staRve. Everything nearby was closed, so this was such a relief that they were working on a holiday. We waited about 15-20mins because it was packed. Service is so great and the view from the covered outside patio is breathtaking. So lucky they were open. We ordered the cider that was definitely sweeter than we like but a nice, crisp Fall cider. Very yummy! The crispy chicken sandwich was filling and the chicken was tender and juicy The burger was pretty standard - good patty with all the fixings. From what I know , this historic gem is the last of it's kind. Food is heartbreaking. The menu says "hand tossed pizza", but no - not even close. This was without doubt a grocery store frozen pizza - and the worse tasting ever. Served on round cardboard. I just can't describe it. I ordered it with meatballs - the meatballs literally had the texture of Styrofoam and no taste. Our other dish was a turkey dinner. The best thing my wife said about it was that the stuffing tasted kike baby food. Equally bad served in a tin foil pan. Looked and tasted like a grocery store frozen dinner. Water was served in plastic cup and plastic forks and knives. Maybe not a bad idea during Covid. I actually feel sorry for this place and feel sorry for our taste buds and stomachs. It's too bad, because it looks like a great old place across from a big lake with a great porch and nice view. I don't know why the food is so bad, honestly the little sandwiches at Stewart's gas station one mile away are a better choice. Another alternative is driving 20 mikes north to Tupper Lake. Great place with absolutely amazing view, very friendly staff, kid friendly environment. When we discovered there was no changing station in the bathroom and asked if there was any place we could change our baby they were very nice and directed us to one of their lounge areas where there were no other people and have us all the privacy to quickly change our son. I took the star off for burger being dry and onions chopped so thick it was impossible and unpleasant to eat so onion was left on the side. All in all very nice experience. read more

The Pub is all that you would hope it to be no matter how far your journey. The websit was spot on with all this great place has to offer all . The Food, WOW !!! Lots of cool memorabilia and a great setting. They handled our large group like champs. The coffee here is delicious. I drank four cups of it. The refills kept coming and I kept drinking. No regrets. The french onion soup was very decent. Great baked cheese, bread and nice broth. The service was pretty fantastic for our large group. I had a burger with tomato and lettuce and asked for it medium rare. The burger was fine. It was A-OK, not a great burger; the meat could have been higher quality and the patties did not seem to be hand formed. However, the french onion soup and coffee was delicious and the burger was OK; along with the great service, bumps this place up to 4-stars. read more

Having been vacationing in Long Lake for decades, I'm sorry to say that the Adirondack Hotel is no longer on the list of restaurants to visit. We came in for dinner on a Saturday. On the positive side, the server was friendly. The positives stop there. We ordered the chili, macaroni and cheese, and French onion soup. 1) Mac and Cheese: they would have been better off serving Kraft Mac and Cheese. The Hotel's version was flavorless, lukewarm, and hardly fresh out of the oven. 2) Chili: again, the Hotel's version lacked flavor and was lukewarm. The cheddar cheese on top was barely melted. It's kind of hard to botch chili, but they managed to do just that. 3) French onion: this might have been the best item of the three. That said, the cheese was neither Gruyere nor Swiss and was burned. We also had a hamburger and crispy chicken sandwich. Both items were okay. I remember the days of the Hotel serving delicious pot roast, Thanksgiving dinner plates, and other traditional dishes. They've long abandoned those roots. I've stayed in the hotel a couple of times and have eaten here several times over the last 5 years that I've been coming to Long Lake each February. My review is a little split though, I'd give the hotel only 2 stars, the restaurant 3 stars and the bar 4 stars. ...averaging out to 3 overall. Lets talk about the hotel first.... It's very old and in rough shape. I enjoy staying in historic locations and old buildings but I expect the owners to keep them maintained and somewhat updated where appropriate.....this place falls a little short of that for what they are charging. The staff I've encountered is a mixed bag....sometimes really nice and sometimes outright rude. Given the three choices of lodging in Long Lake during the Winter (Adirondack Hotel, Shamrock Motel, and Quackenbush's Long View Wilderness Lodge), the Adirondack Hotel would be my middle choice with the Quackenbush being a better value for what I've found to be better offerings. The Adk Hotel isn't the most family friendly location either. Make sure you specify an en-suite room too if you want your own bathroom....unless you like sharing the common facilities with strangers in similiar rooms down the hall. The restaurant.... The food here has always been pretty good but service is notoriously slow. Once again I've had a mixed bag of hospitality with the waitresses.....outright rude to very cheerful and friendly. Apparently management doesn't address proper staff attitude with customers to their servers or else I'd have seen improvement over the years. Prices are average to slightly high. The bar.... The main bartender, Chuck, is awesome! Super friendly guy that has an amazing memory and remembers customers that he only sees a few days each year. The brews on tap are excellent and fresh being of mostly regional brewerys. They often have live entertainment in the small bar area. The only thing keeping me from giving the bar 5 stars is the small cramped size of it. Overall the Adirondack Hotel is nicely located in a scenic location on the lake and very convenient for walking to other locations in town.....something that is probably more applicable in the Summer since most of the town is closed up in the Winter months. read more

The menu is fairly basic - burgers, sandwiches, pizzas and salads. We had a burger, french onion soup, sweet potato fries and the turkey served on a bagel with red cabbage, cheddar cheese and pecan-cranberry mayo. Both dishes were served with a large heaping of potato chips. The turkey was surprisingly moist for roasted turkey and the bagel was very tasty. The only issue I had was that the bagel was a little too chewy for me. Super generous portions, too. Loved the sweet potato fries. Staff was cool; we didn't wait too long for the food, either. One of their specialities was low quality beef mushed together with mushrooms, peppers on top of toast, with mushy potato chips. That cost 12 bucks. Don't remember what it was called, but it did not match the description on the menu. When it came for my husband, I literally could not believe it and asked him what he got. I ordered the steak tacos, and that was a much better choice, tasteless but edible. We went out because we didn't want to get microwave food after our canoe camping trip had to be cut short due to bad weather. So definitely the food was a step above that, just not much. If I had to sum this hotel in the fewest words. It is like bed and breakfast living arrangements without the breakfast but a cafe instead. If you are accustomed to name brand hotels, then you'll be slightly taken back when you realize folks share a bathroom with other folks when you rent out a room. Only a few of the rooms come with their own private bath. The decorations take you back to the 80s and later. Hopefully you can appreciate the at home feeling they provide way out here in the Adirondacks. The prices are fair and openly posted to their website. I must admit, they are fair because you won't find this type of living in many places these days. The rooms were clean and there was not weird old smell. Parking can be tricky during meal hours because a lot of folks stop by for a meal. Here is what you must be ready for, there is no air conditioning. If you can't acclimatize to the weather, you will be uncomfortable during the summer. I am not a big fan of open windows, but it cooled down at night and the fans helped swirl the air around. The staff wins my customer service approval. I could not be any more pleased with their customer loyalty and attention. You feel like you are staying with family. First off, let's get the negatives out of the way. The Adirondack Hotel is over a hundred years old. In its heyday the accommodations may have been considered "luxurious" , however in comparison with today's hotels, the rooms are tiny, the beds aren't the most comfortable and the entire hotel has a slightly tattered and "worn about the ears" vibe. I've encountered $40 a night motels with nicer rooms. If it is all about the room for you, you probably will be disappointed. What this place has might be called charm, history, or whatever, but it has that intangible something that makes you feel a part of something bigger than just staying in a hotel. You might be sleeping in the same room that Helen Keller or MIckey Mantle did and dining in the same room as Teddy Roosevelt. It's stepping back to a simpler time. Heck cell phone reception isn't a given as it seems to come and go and even the hotel's wireless network doesn't reach much of the building. The restaurant serves solid food. Nothing spectacular, but the take on usual pub food with added attention and fresh ingredients is nice. Try the garlic fries, they are to die for (perhaps literally considering the probable fat and sodium levels). Burgers, wings are good and there is an excellent BBQ rib and chicken special on Weds and Saturdays. In warmer months an outdoor dining area is available. The bar is cozy. There is a small but excellent selection of beer, including some regional micro brews. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating and you might find yourself hanging out with some of them on the porch after their day is done.
