Adentro is one of those demanding dining experiences in Buenos Aires that should be on your list, if you fancy yourself to be an "adventurous diner." If you might be looking for the consummate asado -- fond of sending dishes back to the kitchen to be prepared to your liking -- with the "tenderest" cuts of steak and a solicitous staff head over and join the crowds at Don Julio.
But are you willing to journey into the traditional Asado Criollo culture? Sure you can travel to the countryside to get the open space parrilla, but in BA the asado is a more personal vision of each chef and is usually more of a dinner party than anything like formal dining. This is where the chef wishes you to taste from his own playlist. Being that it's a closed door restaurant -- puertas cerrada -- join Gabriel and Kelley at their home and get ready for the challenge. The other challenging aspect is that you'll share the evening and be expected to engage other diners. If you timid about strangers, just take up the booking with eight associates.
Adentro has a range of wines that you can add to the dinner experience that are all favorably priced, yet you can go overboard if your so tempted. Your cautioned to save your appetite that day because the irresistible offerings are guaranteed to put one into "food coma." Most of the beef was actually grass fed veal the night we visited, my sommelier buddy (who booked the night) was a bit put off by actually having to chew his "Tira de Asado" while I was in carnivore bliss.
Not everyone will be won over by everything but that's the adventure. Gabriel and Kelley are the most capable guides. read more
