The shop itself is beautiful, and the atmosphere is pleasant, but the prices are quite high. Unfortunately, the customer service did not meet my expectations. The bald man who helped arrange my bouquet was quite rude, which made the experience uncomfortable. When you visit a high-end floral shop and pay premium prices, you expect a certain level of professionalism and courtesy. When we called we were told we were suppose to cut the stems and change the water daily. No instructions were given with the delivery. No refund either or any help whatsoever. I am a long time customer of Adelaides and have had an account with them for many years. I recently place an out of town order with them that turned into a nightmare. Not only was my order not delivered but they claimed they couldn't get a hold of the out of town florist that they placed the order with. They said we would not get a refund from them as it was up to the out of town florist. Finally one of the managers refunded our money, but the recipient never got their flowers and we will have to find another florist to send the flowers. I am extremely disappointed in the customer service and will be looking for another florist to do business with in the future. When you're getting married you want to feel like your florist gets it. I'm no floral expert but I knew how I wanted our wedding to feel. We left the rest to her. My review is based on their consultation services for my wedding. I did not book Adelaide's Flowers for my wedding due to a lack of communication and follow-up. I was able to get in contact with Maribel from Adelaide's Flowers for a Facetime consultation service during the COVID-19 quarantine. She listened to the vision of what I wanted for my wedding and she said she would get back with the proposal within the next following Monday. Monday came around and I did not receive the proposal. I wanted to give Maribel the benefit of the doubt (knowing that a lot of the wedding vendors are going through a hectic time rescheduling/postponing March/April weddings) so I waited 2 weeks to send her a follow-up email. Still no reply... It's disappointing when I told Maribel my experience with another florist not responding to me and she ended up doing the same thing to me.... I genuinely wanted to work with Adelaide Flowers but it ended up being a disappointment and a waste of time consulting with them. read more

Yeesh...how do you employ a rude person around the holidays? I was walking through La Jolla late in the evening and made a poor Christmas tree ornament choice. I already had concerns about the store with employees complaining that they had a few sales walk in the door at the end of the day. With the death of retail you're complaining about sales? The wife was not keen so we brought it back. One of the employees noted their 'no returns no exchanges' policy. Wait seriously? Especially for Xmas items you're going to reject a mom from even exchanging? It's not like we are in January and then I get it. The employees said they would get a manager and see what they could do. It had only been a couple of days. The manager takes the receipt out and quickly points out, 'you see? It clearly says no returns or exchanges'. Ah yes we all read the small print on receipts about policies around returns for things...we have already bought. Note there are no signs around the Christmas products. It's on the receipt. Saying you can't use that receipt for anything. The manager was beyond rude and brusque and said rather flatly, 'I'm sorry about that' to which I replied, 'it doesn't sound like you're sorry'. Santa is going to sling some serious coal at this piece of work. To add to that the ornament was a complete piece of junk and yet they charged $50 for it. Avoid! read more

So, I decided at practically the last minute (a week before the holiday) that I wanted a centerpiece for the family Thanksgiving dinner table. After browsing various online floral retailers and lamenting about the waste of collecting vases, baskets, and other flower-holding vessels when ordering online, I was made aware that I could actually take something into a florist and have then use that, cutting down on waste and redundancy. So began my search for a local florist I could hopefully trust with custom arrangement. I selected Adelaide's based on the reviews here on Yelp and called to see if they could do a custom arrangement on such short notice. The woman I spoke to seemed friendly and told me they could get an arrangement done and to bring by my pumpkin (I have one of those open-topped pumpkins that have become so popular for fall arrangements that I wanted to have re-floraled). On the way out of the house, I also grabbed a long, narrow, wire bread basket, thinking maybe instead of a small round pumpkin arrangement, I could see if they could do something more linear, which would better compliment our long table. On my drive over, I decided to get two separate arrangements done - one in the pumpkin, one in the basket. Upon arriving, the florists were happy to see the "pumpkin girl" was here. Gini (I believe her name was) was assigned the somewhat arduous task of discerning what I wanted. Both arrangements needed to be organic, flowy, not-so-symmetrical, and not filled with typical centerpiece flowers. In particular, not chock full of roses, although I did think some mini roses would be sweet. The pumpkin arrangement could be brighter and more whimsical fall colors, as it would sit on the sunny kitchen table, while the main centerpiece would have darker tones of similar fall colors. We decided on prices for the two arrangements and I pre-paid. The whole next week I spent kicking myself for spending so much on flowers, sure I would be let down. Not that the woman helping me didn't inspire confidence, but I am so used to spending a lot and getting little in return that I was sure I might as well have thrown a couple of Benjamins into the ocean. However, when I saw the arrangements a week later, I was floored. They were gorgeous, exceeded my wildest expectations, and well worth the cost. I could not have been happier with the quality of the flowers, expert design, and overall presentation. The layers of flowers, veggies, and other natural elements allowed for new discoveries the closer you look and the quality of materials is exquisite. I will never again doubt the cost and craftsmanship of Adelaide's. Well worth the price and the flowers stay fresh forever. Adelaide's has definitely become my exclusive florist for all my floral needs. Cannot wait for Christmas to have another opportunity for a gorgeous arrangement! read more

we used Adelaide's Flowers for a corporate event at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club's celebrity suites. they came recommended by the venue and I can see why. From the start, Craig was fantastic to work with. He had phenomenal ideas and gently steered me in the right direction ensuring our flowers wouldn't clash with the venue (since I'd never been and he frequently does the flowers for the club). He was also sensitive to my budget and didn't try to up-sell me which was a relief because being a work event, there was a limited budget. Being a 'corporate' event , with predominantly men present, I wanted flowers but for them not to be overly feminine/wistful. Craig nailed the design. The arrangements were elegant with a beautiful display of greenery, white roses and succulents. It was not only right on 'trend' but suited the space. Also, my biggest pet peeve is too much greenery but this was a very balanced arrangement. I loved it! And most importantly, there were zero issues with delivery. They arrived prior to our arrival and were displayed as requested in our suite. I even received a confirmation email of delivery! I like to stop by here whenever I'm in downtown La Jolla village just to browse. This store is beautifully designed and staged, everything is well laid out by themes around types of flowers or styles of small accessories (picture frames, knick knacks, ceramics, books, etc) incorporating flowers that match. They have fresh cut stem flowers, arrangements, potted plants, orchids, exotic blooms and faux flowers. I could see the niche of this place being custom made arrangements, especially special order for weddings and events. They don't really have a lot of grab and go type bouquets. Moonstruck Chocolates from Portland are available and there is a nice selection of seasonal cute/decorated truffles as well as chocolate bars. They are sold by the piece at prices comparable to other stores. They are a bit pricier than most stores, especially for the more "generic" variety flowers, but the quality is definitely there... the flowers are beautiful and vibrant representatives of their species. The bouquet of gerbera daisies I purchased were huge, fresh, rich in colour and lasted a several days longer than the ones I buy at the grocery store (and they were wired to keep their heads straight, which is usually a paid premium anyway). The staff was a bit difficult to track down, but nice during the sales transaction. read more

I am a flower-giver. Over the years I've worked with probably 50 florists. The experience I had today with Jerry at Adelaide's Flowers in La Jolla set a new standard for quality, beauty and style in terms of the arrangement ... and warmth and excellence in terms of the service. Jerry helped me with a last minute order to complicated University setting and did so with such kindness and expediency that I was gob-smacked. And my wife loved the arrangement. It made her special day all the more wonderful and had the desired effect of getting everyone in her office all worked up over the stunning beauty of the arrangement. (I gave Jerry my "budget" and a theme and asked him to do his thing and he and his staff did magic!) What I think I appreciate most about Adelaide's Flowers is that their offerings are unique, creative and beautiful ... and reasonably priced. I can't understand why I ever messed with the the big "dot com" florists where everything is so bland and homogenous it hurts to look at the pictures. That and the quality from those big virtual florists is so "hit and miss". I should know better. One look at their web site and you'll see what I mean by unique and beautiful. I asked that a photo of the arrangement be sent to me. Jerry happily and promptly obliged and I've set it as the screen saver on my wife's home PC so she can enjoy the arrangement here (at least digitally) while the real deal stays at her office at UCSD.
