Colonial Village Apartments

I lived at the Colonial Village Apartments for three years, and overall, our experience here was…read morereally great. Its proximity to "downtown" Glastonbury cannot be beat. You can even walk to most restaurants and stores from these apartments. Overall, the quality of our unit was really solid. Some of the appliances were out dated, but it appears that they are replacing them as individual appliances die; as long as they are working, that's totally fine with me. Heat is included in the monthly rent cost, which is a big plus in New England. Parking is ample, especially if you're in one of the units toward the back. I've never, ever had any trouble with parking. The pool is a great perk, and, truly, it's under utilized during the summer. I did find it odd that apartment renters had to pay $10 (or $15?) per guest to use the pool. I'm not sure how that lines up with other apartment complexes. Importantly, Kristen, who was in many ways the "superintendent" for this complex, and the guys who did maintenance were very, very responsive. I didn't go more than 24 hours without getting fixes done or just getting a response overall. About the time that I left this complex, Colonial Village was instilling an online system for maintenance requests and the like, so I am not sure how much that will impact responsiveness, if at all. There's a tiny gym that all renters can use at no extra cost. It is very minimal, though, and I doubt any renter used it as their only gym. I only used it when it was snowing outside, really. There was a diversity of people who rent here. Those out and about the most were families with young kids (elementary school) and retirees. Since I did not fit in either category, I never found it easy to make friends, which was a bit of a disappointment, but I think for other renters, there is a lot of opportunity to form a community and make friends. Overall, I look fondly at the years I lived here and would definitely recommend it.

The apartments and townhome were overpriced and falling apart. Dealt with mold, leaks, water…read moredamage, cracks in walls and windows, and medicine cabinets falling out of walls. There was a lack of help from maintenance, though I would blame those who oversee operations. Kids were loud and ran rampant, leaving toys everything and screaming. Cars have been broken into and tired have been stolen. Management just wants to take money wherever they can. Front desk was friendly, but that was the only positive. There's so much turnover there too, probably because of the poor management.

I lived here for three years while I was in grad school and working in Hartford. Some definite…read morepluses and minuses about these apartments: Pros: - The apartments themselves and roomy and pretty nice. I lived in a 2bd, 1.5ba end unit. It had a working fireplace and tons of closet space. - The neighbors are mostly families, with some young professionals and older folks sprinkled in. All friendly, quiet people. - Great location. Very convenient to Hartford, UConn, and the highways. Tucked away from the main streets. - Dedicated parking spots and plenty of guest parking on the street. Cons: - They don't really put a lot of time/effort into maintaining the units. If you have a problem, they'll fix it. But if you want anything cosmetic done........ good luck. Some of the units are pretty retro with fake brick linoleum floor in the kitchen and green yellow bathroom tile. It's definitely not chic and modern. - The property manager never answers her phone. Like ever. (At least when I lived there a few years ago). It was almost comical how many times I would have to call her. - When I lived there at least, there was no way to pay bills. renew your lease, or request maintenance online. Everything had to be done via snail mail. Pretty archaic. Overall, I enjoyed living here and would recommend it to people looking for a townhouse near Hartford.
