I have been going to AdCare remotely given COVID and the fact that I am not close to the Worcester campus. They have been fantastic! All of the counselors have been professional and dedicated. And the people that I have met during group sessions and the things we talk about and share, has been very helpful for me. Lastly. Helen Chew is the nastiest medical professional I have ever met. The way she spoke to me was so mind mindblowing fake. I was susposto meet with a doctor and Instead they sent this nasty fake witch! they sent this prices of work for some reasons and not a Dr. She need to to back to school to learn how to speak to someone going through withdrawals! Helen. You Are so damn fake I wish I could play a recording of what your voice sounds like when you're talking to people at their worst moments of need you are a fraud. Yeah your hair looks good. Your makeup looks good but guess what you're not good at what you do you're nasty let me say it one more time you are absolutely nasty. The fact that they hired you means that you couldn't get a better job than working for ad care maybe one day you'll understand what it's like to be an addict but right now you haven't a clue you are so mean so pretentious and so snooty you're gonna get what's coming to you!!!karma sucks but I'm just letting you know that I now have your name and we're not done here. This will not be the last time that you hear from me and quite honestly, I have nothing but time right now to deal with what you put me through the way you treated me this morning was mind blowing if anybody in your colleagues saw how you spoke to me they would say Helen needs some Help. My father recently completed alcohol detox there. Staff were incredibly short and rude with my mother, both during intake and on the phone when she repeatedly tried to tell them the medication list they had for him was incorrect and included gabapentin, which his doctor had recently taken him off of due to a prior adverse reaction. Instead of checking/confirming with his doctor, they brushed her off and said "We have the list from his pharmacy"--- which was not correct because it still included the gabapentin. When she called to follow up (because she did not feel heard by the intake staff), or to ask a question about insurance coverage, staff either told her they would call her back but never did, or transferred her to voicemail, and her messages were never returned. THEN, when my dad returned home, he was so overmedicated on downers that he was slurring his words! When my mom called Adcare to ask what kind of drugs they had given him and when, they said the night before he had been given a combination of ....melatonin, benadryl, AND GABAPENTIN!!! A quick Google search, and even a non-medical professional can find out that that's not a recommended combo, especially for older folks who could have slowed breathing, fall risks, etc, (and definitely not for people who have had adverse reactions). Finally, the discharge paperwork they sent home said, "Patient given a prescription for Narcan." and the box was checked!! My dad is trying to kick alcohol -- Narcan is for opioids, so we are not sure what to make of that. Patients are more than addicts, they are vulnerable humans who are there to get help and care. They and the people who love them are trusting that they will be safe there, and deserve better. This might have been a better review, if staff had approached a caring family member's concerns with empathy instead of brushing them off, and been willing to take a moment to check and confirm my dad's meds list. read more

I tried to get help here, I really did. but they would not help me. I was in massive pain and I had hoped they would relieve me of it. I was so wrong. They did not take the withdrawls away. I couldn't eat. I couldn't sleep. eventually that kind of thing takes a chunck out of your mental health. still I tried to talk to someone as I was beginning to become depressed, agitated, and frankly suicidal. I just wanted the pain to end. they did not dose me based on what I was using before going in, they give everyone the same dose and expect them to get through it. I knew my best chance for success was to go up on the methadone and be discharged to a clinic to stay on it so that I could get more help that way and eventually come off of it. I had never felt so much pain and discomfort in my life. I just wanted it to end. I tried talking to a social worker, I tried to let them know how I was feeling, so that hopefully someone would talk to me and be supportive and help me through these feelings of utter despair. they kept yelling at me and kept telling me "no!" so I said I wanted to leave even though I didn't. if someone had just been kind to me, if someone had just spoke to me, i might have made it. now it feels like because I am what I am that they were not willing to help me. they discontinued the methadone and wasn't going to help me get into the clinic. if you or a loved one is reading this, I would advise that you find somewhere else. somewhere better. where they can see a patient feeling pain and bad thoughts and talk them through it. otherwise they are going to make you feel small and uncomfortable and your choice to be there might have been the biggest mistake of your life. I am home now. I tried to die. I didn't thankfully. I did finally get some sleep and was able to keep food down. they would not allow me to safely call for a ride in the hospital once I told them I wanted to leave. then when I was outside one of the nurses came out and told me to get off their property while I waited for an uber. I never felt such shame in my life. these are not nice people. these are "professionals" who sent a suicidal girl home because she was in too much pain to eat or sleep. and the second I did finally sleep they woke me up. I couldn't believe it. I could not get back to sleep. the withdrawal was too much. I don't want anyone else to have to ever go through what I went through there. don't send your loved ones to adcare hospital. because they might just leave and die before they get the help they need. thank you for reading this and I hope it has helped at least one other person to avoid such shame. read more

This was the worst experience. It was shocking and very unprofessional. They removed needed follow up meds. I should say they were scratched out after being added to the discharge sheet. Given the rudeness of the staff at all levels, I shouldn't be surprised. I am so sorry that I entrusted the care of my loved one to this horrible place. There was no care when we experienced it. I could never recommend it to anyone that I care about without hearing of first hand experiences that it has changed. It was a very traumatic experience. read more

This was my first detox, and with hard work hopefully my last. The counselors I had (Tim, Emily, and Shawna) were extraordinary. As were the staff from the cleaning lady to the office staff. One thing that impressed me was that the staff knows your name. One med lady said "Hi Charles". Even though she hadn't seen me in at least four days. Wow because I generally have forgotten names two minutes after meeting you. I give the food 3 stars but that isn't surprising in a hospital setting. We did three group sessions a day and a nightly meeting where people in longtime recovery tell you about their lives. Made me realize how good I had it in my family life. They are very helpful if you are having withdrawal symptoms. They aren't afraid to give you medication to help. I was there six days and I think it was the most important week of my life. Now I have to continue working on my sobriety. I might just have been on one of the best wards 2 East if you can. Good luck. read more

Dear AdCare staff, I am forever grateful for the treatment that you have provided me over the past five days. I have been a functioning alcoholic for over 20 years. During this time I've had some rough spells though. I estimate I've lived through over 30 self-detoxes where I tapered off my withdrawal symptoms on my own. But after a few weeks/few months/even a year, I would always be triggered to start drinking again. The day prior to being admitted I was confronted by an unlikely source; my father who has been a daily barfly my entire life. Every.Single.Day. That was a wake up call for me so I immediately reached out to a cousin who had struggled with an unimaginable opiate addiction. (Pills subscribed by a doctor eventually led to IV heroin use.) She called AdCare right away and helped me set up a bed. Although it had been 12 years that she was here, she assured me that this place would take good care of me. And she was 100% right. She drove me here the following day once I got the call that a bed became available. From the moment I arrived I felt an incredible amount of care and empathy from all of the staff that I was greeted by. Sadly I do not remember all of their names as I was a little fuzzy that first night. But Dr. Alex eased any concerns I had and made me feel like I was in good hands. As well as Dr. G the following morning. Once I was out of bed I met I met with Rich for my intake evaluation. I will never forget the kindness, empathy and wisdom he shared with me as I sat there with my hands and legs shaking uncontrollably. After that meeting I spent the entire day in bed. Tired from taking Valium for the first time and wiped from drinking gallons of vodka and cheap beer the week before. The following day I was fortunate to meet Garren who was equally as helpful as Rich, in his own special way. Such great people that this facility is very, very lucky to have. Sadly I was unable to speak with Shawna one-on-one because I really enjoyed her group presentations. She asked some tough questions that really made me/us think about our issues. Some nurses and desk staff that I believe deserve recognition are Annie, Audrey, Melissa, Jaime, the girl with short blonde hair and cool sneakers, the night shift man Gus, and the All-Star night nurse Mori (sp) who handled an incredibly difficult patient while somehow continuing to perform all of her other duties. Of all of the amazing staff and patients here at AdCare the person who stands out most to me is the Nurse's Assistant, Brian R. To say that he went "above and beyond" for me is an understatement. He comforted me with stories of his own past struggles and and his recovery. He checked on me periodically even when it wasn't time to check my vitals. When he noticed I was sweating he tracked down a large stirafoam jug & straw and filled it with water. And the final night of my stay he popped in as his shift was over to wish me well and tell me how the AA book that Rich had given me had saved his life. Especially the first 164 pages. What an outstanding human being. I could write more, but it's it's time for me to be discharged. So it's time to move on to the next chapter in my life. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Great IOP, great counselors. I feel very lucky to be a part of their program. For anyone looking for support in their recovery, or wants to start getting sober and get their lives back.... I would very highly recommend Adcare. It's very clear that the counselors truly care about every client in their programs. I had been receiving my outpatient through Adcare Hospital with their professional therapist, who are well acquainted and considerate with the needs of others in this treatment program. It's beneficial in terms of not only addiction and recovery, but also overall personal well-being and to develop coping strategies.
