On September 23rd, 2025, I went to the BCH Foothills Hospital Emergency Department for severe…read moreheadaches, dizziness, fatigue, and frequent episodes of double vision. One episode lasted long enough that I had to pull over while driving. The ER performed bloodwork and an MRI, both of which were normal, and sent me home with a generic "how to treat headaches" handout. The handout even specifically stated to seek medical attention if the headaches were accompanied by dizziness or vision changes, which were my main presenting complaints that visit. I followed up with my primary care doctor who referred me to a neurologist and an ophthalmologist. The neurologist was booked until November. I saw the ophthalmologist on October 6th, 2025 and he found significant swelling in both optic nerves and strongly suspected Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH). He told me to go to the ER if my symptoms worsened prior to my neurology appointment. He explained that IIH can lead to permanent vision loss and must be officially diagnosed and treated with a spinal tap. Just two days later, on October 8th, I returned to the BCH Foothills Hospital after four episodes of complete vision loss, along with the worst headache of my life, severe dizziness, and back and neck pain. I was seen by Dr. Shannon Sovndal and gave him a detailed medical history, including my ophthalmologist's findings and his recommendation for a spinal tap. Dr. Sovndal was dismissive, repeatedly interrupted me, and insisted on repeating imaging even though I had just had an MRI at the same facility two weeks earlier. After several hours and additional imaging, he told me everything was "normal" and that there was "nothing wrong." When I explained that my symptoms had worsened and asked again about a spinal tap, he said it was "out of the ER's scope" and that I should wait for my neurology appointment, despite it being a month away. He stated, "if your symptoms get worse, you can come back to the ER. But I don't mean if your symptoms are just bothering you more. I mean if your symptoms are actually progressing." This was extremely frustrating since this was after I had gone completely blind multiple times that day.. if that's not my symptoms progressing, what is? I was sent home again with the same generic headache handout. Feeling unsafe with waiting a month for my neurologist to treat me, I immediately went to UCHealth Broomfield Hospital, where my experience was completely different. Four nurses rushed me back immediately after hearing my symptoms and the ER doctor, Dr. Jessica Mitchell, virtually consulted a neurologist right away. Dr. Mitchell performed a spinal tap and confirmed my intracranial pressure was concerningly high. After removing fluid, I felt instant relief. Dr. Mitchell confirmed the IIH diagnosis and explained that untreated IIH can lead to permanent health issues. Dr. Mitchell asked if I knew why BCH hadn't performed a spinal tap. I told her I had no idea, especially since I had specifically requested one. She appeared visibly surprised and concerned by that answer. Upon discharge from UCHealth, the staff provided me with clear discharge instructions and follow-up recommendations. They told me exactly what symptoms to look out for so I know exactly when to come back to the ER. Dr. Mitchell gave me the information for the neurologist that she consulted with and recommended that I reach out ASAP to schedule an appointment since they know my case and will likely be able to get me seen sooner. I'm deeply disappointed in BCH Foothills Hospital Emergency Department, especially Dr. Shannon Sovndal, for dismissing a serious and time-sensitive neurological condition.. twice. I'm incredibly grateful to UCHealth, Dr. Mitchell, and her team for listening, acting quickly, and preventing what could have been a permanent outcome. I would not recommend BCH Foothills Hospital to anyone seeking thorough or compassionate emergency care. Go to UCHealth Broomfield instead!

She is a vulnerable patient with a complex TBI, mobility issues, and incontinence. We trusted this facility to rehabilitate her; instead, they neglected her basic human needs. * Hygiene Neglect: Our mother remained in the same soiled top clothing for an entire weekend. Despite being incontinent, she was also not bathed by staff. The only shower she received during her stay was given by our own private family aide who had to step in during a visit. Unsurprisingly, she was discharged with a UTI. * Medical Oversight: They placed her on 24/7 oxygen and new medications without consulting her family doctor or us. They completely ignored her medical history and her actual respiratory needs. * Therapy Concerns: There is a lot of "fuzzy math" regarding the required 15 hours of therapy. Therapists consistently showed up late and brought her back early, yet these sessions are billed as full hours. It felt less like rehabilitation and more like a money grab. * Lack of Communication: Staff were unable to answer basic questions about her care or progress. Advice to families: If you live out of town or work full-time, stay away. Unless you can sit in the room 24/7 to "babysit" the facility and ensure basic hygiene and a therapy plan is met, your loved one is at risk. We deeply regret sending her here and hope this prevents another family from going through this type of mess.

I was in the women's unit and the staff and residents I spent my stay with have played a large role in my recovery. The women I met will be life-long friends and support for me and the staff are an invaluable component to the Foundry's recovery approach. Dr. Jim Schuler genuinely cares for his residents who are committed to developing a solid foundation for their recovery both in treatment and ongoing. They give you an abundance of resources and their client care coordinators will help you build an attainable aftercare plan with you during your stay that will ensure your ability to achieve sustainable sobriety leaving the facility. The program is not a 30-day program, rather it is one based on what your entire care team of therapists, psychiatrists and care coordinators find is most appropriate for your care. I stayed 52 days and didn't want to leave after how close I'd grown to the people there both in front of, and behind, the desk. Do be aware that there is a 7-day probationary period for phone calls, so be sure to make your loved ones aware of those parameters upon arrival so they're not left wondering what's happened to your communication. No cellphones, cigs or vapes allowed which was brutal for me, as a chronic, device-in-hand 24/7 vape user HOWEVER they provide you with nicotine lozenges and patches, which are an adjustment at first but I left no longer needing or wanting nicotine so that was pretty tight. The facility as a whole is like a 4 star hotel (1 star deduction due to no vaping haha) but I can genuinely recommend this rehabilitation center and its quality of care for its clients a 10/10 and have obtained a beautiful and happy future in recovery thanks to them. Special mentions to the Behavioral Health Technicians and nursing staff there- Anaïs, Danny, Brittany, Alexis, Alex, Charlie, Oliver, Lexie and Ken. Stellar first-time rehab experience!

The nursing staff was incredible, and the physicians were also compassionate and professional. Ashley, the RN manager, genuinely listened to me and even tried to help by calling my boyfriend's treatment facility when I couldn't. The woman who completed my second intake on 7/20 was also amazing. Those employees are the reason this isn't an easy review to write. Unfortunately, my overall experience left me feeling unheard and treated like just another number. The biggest issue happened while I was on the Snowmass detox unit. At 8:30 AM, I arranged a phone call with my boyfriend's therapist at the treatment facility where he was staying. She specifically asked me to call back at 4:30 p.m. sharp because she was staying late so we could finally speak. I hadn't talked to my boyfriend in about 10 days, and this call had taken a lot of coordination. I made sure everyone knew how important this call was. Then, around 3:00 p.m., I was told I was being transferred to the Vail unit immediately. I explained that if I moved before 4:30, I would lose the opportunity to make the call because the new unit had different phone hours. I simply asked if I could remain on the detox unit for another 90 min so I could make my scheduled five-minute call before transferring. The answer was simply, "No." There was no flexibility, no compromise, and no willingness to work with me, despite the fact that I had followed every rule they gave me. The phone call had been scheduled within the approved phone hours, yet suddenly the rules changed because I was being moved. The therapist who spoke with me repeatedly told me that wanting to make this call was "codependent" and "unhealthy." Maybe that's something I need to work on, but I was in detox trying to get sober. Recovery isn't perfect, and I was simply trying to keep a commitment I had made. I didn't want someone I love sitting by the phone wondering why I never called after we'd spent all day arranging it. To me, keeping my word mattered. This wasn't about refusing treatment. It wasn't about breaking rules. It was about asking for 90 minutes of flexibility so I could make a five-minute phone call that everyone had known about since 8:30 that morning. Instead, I felt dismissed. One staff member even told me not to "tell everybody" what was happening after I spoke with a wellness coordinator, even though I thought I was simply trying to get help. That interaction made me feel like I was becoming a problem instead of a patient. Eventually, I chose to leave. As soon as I did, I made the phone call on my own cell phone because I knew my boyfriend would be waiting. I was right. If I hadn't left, he would have been sitting by that phone wondering why I never called. I understand that treatment centers need structure. Structure is important. But when a patient follows the rules, schedules an important call during approved phone hours, and asks for a reasonable accommodation because staff changed the plan, I don't think compassion should disappear. After everything that happened, I couldn't shake the feeling that my needs came second to keeping beds moving and following policy without any room for compassion or common sense. My intake experience on 7/17 also left a poor first impression. I encountered inconsistent information, and overall felt dismissed rather than welcomed. Unfortunately, the way I was treated during the transfer and as I was leaving overshadowed the positive experiences. When you're in treatment, you're incredibly vulnerable. Your emotions are raw, and small moments can have a huge impact. What seemed like "just a phone call" to staff represented trust, commitment, and human connection to me.. I would have stayed if I had been allowed to make that five-minute phone call.

That was untrue, once I…read morewas there I was informed that I had to stay for 30 days, or my insurance wouldn't pay for it. Although they also tell you that you're welcome to leave any time. Um not really, if you're paying over $3,000 a day to be there, which they remind you of often. Also, none of the staff even knew how long medical detox was or how that process even worked there, because pure medical detox either isn't a thing there and they lied, or that particular staff didn't know what they were doing. Speaking of insurance, Zinnia is in network for my insurance, so we were told we'd be covered. About three weeks into my stay, we discovered that while Zinnia takes Cigna, DRC does not. That was an unwelcome surprise. If you have anything going on legally, don't expect to have access to your lawyer. I was denied about 75% of the time I needed to speak to my counsel. I was also yelled at about how I had been given special treatment to call them, and that "nothing had changed with my case." Mind you they have zero idea what was going on because, you know, attorney-client privilege, and the right to legal counsel is allowed whenever per their handbook and official policies. I fainted at one point, hit my head on the kitchen counter, ended up on the hardwood floor, went to the emergency room, and had a concussion. I went back to treatment. (again, because my insurance I was told was in network but wasn't wouldn't cover my time there if I left). I figured since they had an on-site nurse, I'd be OK. I wasn't. The nurse refused to give me Advil for the pain until I talked to medical.... Which would happen "later that week." To be fair, she didn't know I had a concussion because literally nothing about this was put in my medical record. My therapist (on his weekly call with my emergency contact) told him I tripped but was fine. He only found out I had a concussion when I told him. When I was leaving, I asked for my medical records there, and they didn't want to give them to me because they were afraid I would report them to the State Medical Board. I was told to "use them only for good." I was berated by the staff once in the basement, and told, among other things, that I wasn't allowed to talk to any of my peers about my recovery. I was only in the basement because I was asking for clarification about medical detox. Don't expect privacy, also don't expect that you will be able to speak freely about the issues you encounter there. I was able to read my daily records on multiple occasions, because the staff just left them lying around. I was also able to read Teams messages about me, because the screen was up and right there. Some of the staff are helpful. Most of them are not. They DID help me and a lot of my peers with detox. So that's good. This is probably an ok place if you encounter literally zero problems. But that's unlikely.
