This place is a great place to stop if you are on the run and you are trying to get something fast…read more The Market was a high end concept grocery store catering specifically to urban customers. It was owned and operated by Virginia Beach, Virginia-based Farm Fresh Food & Pharmacy. The Market had three locations, two of which were in Norfolk, Virginia, and the original location in Richmond, Virginia. The first store was an independently owned and operated grocery store which closed due to financial problems. The store's distributor, SuperValu, required that the store be reopened and handed operations over to FF Acquisitions LLC. The Market was known for each location being named after its neighborhood: Richmond's "The Market at Tobacco Row," Norfolk's "The Market at Ghent," and "The Market at Harbour Heights." Each store specialized in something prominent in the neighborhoods that they served, for example "The Market at Ghent" is located in a neighborhood with a large Jewish population; therefore it contains a large kosher foods section. All of The Market locations contained a premier bakery, deli, seafood shop, butcher, and wine specialist along with gourmet chefs on staff to prepare meals to carry home at the store's signature Chef's Corner. The chain's flagship store at Harbour Heights in downtown Norfolk closed the first half of 2011 after being open for only four years. The original location at Tobacco Row was rebranded as a Farm Fresh Supermarket during the third quarter on 2011 and the Ghent location was rebranded as a Farm Fresh Supermarket in November 2011. Farm Fresh Food and Pharmacy and The Market are wholly owned subsidiaries of Eden Prairie, Minnesota-based SuperValu, Inc.

Stopped by Don's to pick up a six pack on my way to a buddies house for the first preseason game…read moreagainst the Broncos. My friend was smoking some pork and some pot in preparation of the start of the new season. There was the first bit of rain dumping upon the capitol city and one couldn't help but wonder if the about-face from the searing heat of the previous day was a bad or good omen for our beloved Seahawks. There's an abundance of Rubus ursinus(AKA blackberries) on my friends property and I aimed to pick a couple zip lock baggies for brewing purposes this winter. To no avail the lads and I had a few cold ones while I waited for the rain to let up. Not to be deterred I donned the rain gear and set to picking. Turns out it was the perfect time. The rain was rinsing the insects and what have you off the berries and the thorns seemed to have softened up a bit. I wasn't getting snagged and the rain gear was great protection so I really could lean into the bushes. The place was ripe and loaded for bear and I made short work of it. The smoked pulled pork was served in the form of a slider on Hawaiian rolls with a tomato based sauce and some coleslaw infused with kimchi. Personally I felt the kimchi took focus away from the smoked pork but either way the food was excellent. The game was close. The rain wasn't a good sign after all but it's preseason so,............eh(shoulder shrug). Don's has low ceilings and a decent beer selection for a convenience store. The domestic side is pretty domestic and the craft side is darn crafty. I would recommend checking for expiration dates on anything edible before buying. The guy behind the counter is always watching some Korean programming. I have a strong suspicion his birth name isn't really Don but might be short for Dong which in Korea doesn't mean a slang for male genitalia but means East. Don's is a good place to stop on the Dong side of Olympia if you need a six pack for the game or in the market for a hash pipe ever so cleverly disguised as a keychain.
