Purposeful deception or lack of education? I went to Medi for some accountability and support in my…read moreweight loss journey. However, I was shocked by some of the things I was told which directly contradict so much of nutrition and general science. Most egregiously, I was alerted by a supervising nurse that I have "high cholesterol" and that a goal of my participation would be to bring that down. But, what was highlighted and she pointed out on my bloodwork sheet was my fantastic HDL- otherwise known as "good" cholesterol, which is measured in relation to a minimum- in other words, the higher above the minimum the better, and to "bring that down" deliberately would be a very bad goal. I did not tell the nurse at that time that I knew her information to be incorrect, to learn more about whether she was trying to make my health seem worse than it is so i would buy more product, or if she was severely out of date on training. The rest of my bloodwork was (also) stellar. Another stunning aspect was the meal plan itself. They do a metabolic test along with your bloodwork when you attend an intake appointment. My caloric needs for maintenance were reported to be around 1800 calories. I commented that this information tells us that 12-1300 calories would be the standard weight loss target (a 500 cal deficit per day will yield a 1.5 lb /week loss on average) and I was told "no, the weight loss target for that range is 600 calories a day." The Medi program may be "the one that works," but it works because you are being starved- you could eat 600 calories of skittles per day and absolutely would drop tons of weight, because you are dying! The program also allows for FOUR protein shake "replacements" per day (which is egregious), and a very very minimal amount of vegetable which necessitates the abundance of laxatives the program sells. No fruit, no whole grains. This diet is Atkins on steroids, Keto on... just awful. Unlike traditional ketosis plans, this diet does not provide the caloric compensation of fat to reach that minus-500 caloric target which is the all-but universal standard for achieving weight loss without damaging the bones, muscles, brain and metabolism. Each visit with the team was very disappointing- these are pleasant, friendly folks (lovely reception staff) who are touting what i expect to be company-line misinformation, in a medically coded environment. Some information is merely out of date (though drastically so) such as that it is essential (or even useful) to chug a protein shake within 30 minutes of exercise (debunked for years, only has a very slight potential impact for the most elite of athletes who are maxed out in every other efficiency). I was even told that FATS will put me out of ketosis, which I asked to clarify and was reconfirmed (false). They sell a variety of vitamin injections which are chock-full of disclaimers as to their efficacy (wise because they are also debunked) and a wide array of "metabolic boosting" supplements. Participants in this program are likely to have significant short term weight loss due to the extreme caloric deficits with the aid of a vast selection of appetite suppressants- however, once those suppressants are discontinued (and each has very serious side effects, some are meant to be used very short term and will be prescribed indefinitely here) they will regain the weight rapidly. In short, this is a money-making business like any other and due to the extreme vulnerability of folks in weight management and scientific inaccuracies, I think it would be inaccurate to classify their methods as anything other than harmful. If you want to maximize on your health, I recommend seeing a certified dietician and making small incremental changes.

No one likes to get blood drawn but it helps to deal with friendly, capable phlebotomists rather than one who gets annoyed that you're not "popping your elbow" - whatever that means. Maybe she was just having a bad day. Guess I'll find out in the future since this is one of the few nearby Starling labs covered by my insurance.

The doctor refused to see me but promised to call in a prescription to last me until august. They marked me as a no show and never called the script in. 10 days later, no script, I'm in a pain flair and some guy who doesn't know what he's doing accuses me of lying when he was the one lying and I caught him in a lie. The starling pcp was horrible with my special needs daughter. I don't know where these people come from. But my impression is quite low.

I am giving 4 stars only because my results for botox on my forehead did not last nearly as long as I was told by my injector. On my second visit i expressed my concern with length of the results. I was was told that I may need to put more units of botox in for longer results, so I did. I paid more and we put more botox in my forehead the next visit. Somehow, my results a second time around lasted even shorter-LESS than a month. This didn't make sense to me. I'm not sure if it is a problem with the process of injection or me. I loved renu, but i can't seem to justify paying more in units to see less results.

I didn't really have much knowledge on fillers when I first walked in, but by the time my appointment was over I felt like an expert. Diane told me about the two different types of lip filler that they offer, why she chose one over the other( based on what I wanted and the disolveablity), what to expect during the healing process, what would help make the healing process easier, and when I should come back to make sure everything was settled correctly. The procedure was absolutely painless(due to the dental block numbing that they use) and Diane made sure I was comfortable the entire time. I could instantly see the results! In order to register online you have to provide the front and back of your insurance cards and despite uploading the photographs the site would not accept them. After multiple tries and a lot of aggravation it finally took the photos. I arrived on time and the queue displayed on the television in the waiting room that I needed to check in. I had checked in when I walked in the place and they told me I'm good because I did it online. The queue still had me indicating that I was not checked in. Then they called in someone who was a walk-in ahead of me who was last on the list. Then they called the person who was listed beneath me on the list and my name disappeared. I spoke up. I had been there for 40 minutes when my name disappeared off the queue. She said it was because they were ready in the room for me. But they still called the person after me first. They said they were having computer issues. I told them I tried to phone them to ask them if they would be able to do what I needed, and I said nobody answers the phone and none of the prompts get you to a human being. The system was blamed. I feel a little bad for the staff because they deal with the inefficient and inadequacy of the infrastructure of the go health urgent care corporation. The PA and the medical assistant were wonderful. Healthcare in America should be much better than this.

I still like her and find her to be compassionate during our in-person appointments, however the complete and total incompetence of this office makes it impossible to move forward with Hartford Healthcare Medical Group for me personally and I will be switching PCP's as a result. The first red flag was many years ago, after I first met my PCP and was prescribed an anti-anxiety medication. I was traveling out of state when it ran out and at that time I had apparently gone through all my refills, so when I contacted them to let them know I was out, they said they could not issue any more refills without me coming in person to the office. I was 3,000 miles away so this was not possible, and I was essentially forced to quit the medication cold turkey, rather than safely wean off. This was dangerous and an unpleasant experience, however I took responsibility for my role in that I should have been better prepared/made sure I would be able to refill my prescriptions while I was traveling. I decided to keep my PCP and give another chance. I regret this deeply. Last month, I was unexpectedly hospitalized for almost a week. Upon discharge, I followed-up with my PCP. Again, she was kind and compassionate in person and I liked her very much. The office, however, dropped the ball in such a way that is completely unforgivable and the only silver lining is that I will NEVER deal with them again. At my follow-up appointment with my PCP, I reviewed my labs from the hospital with her and I was given a referral to a specialist. I learned the following day that the specialist was not covered by my insurance. I contacted the PCP office for a new referral to someone I have coverage with. It has been utter hell ever since - the specialist informed the PCP office they needed my labs and after WEEKS of calling nearly daily, the PCP office still has not sent my labs to the specialist. Today, the PCP's medical assistant, Denise, called to inform me I'd have to call the hospital and have THEM send my labs to the specialist. Why wasn't I told this WEEKS ago? Why did they tell me nearly daily that they would send them, only to not? Why was my PCP able to go over the hospital labs with me during my follow-up appointment, but is unable to send them to the specialist for me with the referral? Hartford Healthcare has left me in a position unable to get care, and I will be reporting this matter as well as never doing "business" with Hartford Healthcare ever again. This is health negligence and I cannot fathom them treating older patients this way who may not have the stamina or wherewithal to spend hours a day on the phone for weeks, as I have endured. I highly recommend going elsewhere for your medical care! Trust me, if you ever find yourself unexpectedly hospitalized as I did, this is NOT who you want your critical health care follow ups to be through!! It's downright dangerous for your health (not to mention the toll on mental health). Patients beware!
