There are not enough words to express how loved we felt today. I highly recommend them. My kids had a blast! Beautiful scenery, polite staff and affordable pumpkins.

With the onset of fall comes the barrage of pumpkins. If you're hankering to pick your own, head on…read moreover to Farmer in the Dell Pumpkin Patch out on Wire Road. Well, it's closed now for the season but keep this in mind for next year. This family-owned and family-friendly farm is a quick drive from town. Besides families, it also seems popular with college students and couples. Parking is easy and admission is $2 which isn't bad for what you get: access to several pumpkin patches, the corn maze, sunflower picking, farm animal viewing/petting, tractor rides, and amusements for kiddies including a game where you see who can pump water the fastest to float a rubber duckie down a slide. Yes, I had too much fun playing this duck race. I saw hot dogs and lemonade for sale, but nothing pumpkin-related such as pie. I think an opportunity is being missed! Local honey is available for purchase too which is cool. The pumpkins aren't cheap, but then again, you're paying for an experience. I recommend bringing your own shears if you have them since the patch might be all out. The big pumpkins are already detached from the vines but if you want a smaller one, you'll have to snip it yourself. Also, it sounds like Farmer in the Dell will be offering pre-cut Christmas trees during the holidays and will be having peaches next year, so it's not just squashes. Now I have that nursery rhyme in my head. Hi-ho, the derry-o, the farmer in the dell [pumpkin patch]!

With the raging pandemic being so gloomy, I wanted to do something different this holiday and star…read morein my own family Christmas movie! So off we went to pick out the perfect tree! Rex Christmas Tree Farm was an easy choice based on price and location. It's a family owned business that's open from Thanksgiving Day until they run out of trees. Their website says "until Christmas Eve" but they ran out about mid-December. Lucky for us, we were there on December 1st! There's plenty of free parking and they also sell fresh wreaths and mistletoe. The only thing missing was hot apple cider! There are 10 acres of trees to choose from including Virginia Pines, Leyland Cypress, White Pines (which take 8 years to grow to 5 feet), Blue Ice, Carolina Sapphire, cedars and Green Giants! They range from Charlie Brown sized to full-grown and are priced based on height. $25 for a 6 foot tree, then $5 more per foot. Upon arrival, we grabbed a saw and a tall measuring stick and went tree hunting! Then we chopped it down and carried it back. (That's something to keep in mind if you've walked 3 miles to find one.) Rex will blow all the bugs off, tie it with twine and assist you in attaching it to the top of your car if asked. My 6 foot tree was easily stuffed it into the hatchback. Our tree was so fresh, the house smelled like pine for 2 weeks! I'm actually still partial to my artificial tree because it's low maintenance (no vacuuming or daily watering and I can load it with ornaments without weighing down the branches.) But my fresh tree was so pretty and it smelled so good! Most of all I spread Christmas cheer and created a wonderful holiday memory that I can't recommend enough! Tips - 1. Bundle up and don't forget the camera. This place is Christmas card ready! 2. Don't wait too late, they will sell out! 3. Wear garden gloves and possibly bring your own saw, oil or sharpener. We had quite the mishap with a dull blade. Still, a festively fun time!
