This is a new "apartment hotel" on the Royal Mile, part of a big redevelopment around Market Street. It's really well located for the old town, and is a short walk from the back entrance of Waverley station along Market Street. I stayed here for a week and have been very impressed with the place. It's very new so everything is squeaky clean and chic, although they have managed to retain the old frontage on the Royal Mile so you wouldn't know from that angle.
The rooms are 'studio apartments', so you have a small kitchen area with sink, hob, microwave fridge and dishwasher to play with if you want to do your own catering thing. The only downside of this arrangement is that the rooms are not serviced daily, so you have to do your own cleanup, or pay a surcharge. For a week's stay this wasn't an issue but it's worth bearing in mind if you're planning a longer stay.
There is a breakfast bar downstairs where you can get a continental breakfast (for an extra charge) if you can't be bothered making your own. I didn't try this as there are plenty of eateries nearby to experiment with so can't comment on the quality or price. By the reception there are some pre-packed meals, snacks and drinks you can buy for that late-night hunger craving.
The rooms are adequately large but not enormous. There is a small central table and a sofa, but strangely no bed... until you take the cushions off the sofa and pull the handle on the wall behind it, when the bed cunningly folds down (I admit the novelty of this wore off pretty quickly and I just left it down for the rest of the week!).
The telly is nice and large and there is plenty of work surface area, a proper wardrobe with shelves and LOTS of hangers, and the bathroom has plenty of shelving for your toiletries and a huge sink. The shower is great too, and I love the fact that they have included a pull-out clothes rail in it.
Overall, I was really impressed with this place. The rooms are great, and seem to have excellent soundproofing too - I didn't hear any noise from neighbouring rooms the whole time I was there. I'll be keeping this one bookmarked for future stopovers. read more
