Truly love and am immensely grateful for Steph and her care and the office staff are always lovely when I'm there

The clinical and academic training received by Sarah Hayes was exceptional. As a former classmate and clinical intern partner at OCOM, I would assure anyone curious or considering treatment to consult her when facing any issue that doesn't require immediate care or after consulting a PCP. Sarah has continued to practice with intention, attention and execution in her post-academic/clinical practice as the initial founder of Acupuncture Northwest for almost 20 years. A prospective patient(s) seeking personal attention in Sarah's area of expertise seeking care and/or curious about efficacy/benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine is encouraged to visit Northeast Acupuncture. read more

Sarah Hayes and the team at Acupuncture Northwest are exceptional. I tell everyone to go! Sarah has helped me through some of the most difficult times in my life and helped me heal through several health challenges. She's brilliant and knows what she's doing. I am amazed by the power of acupuncture and what this medicine can do. With a skilled practitioner, so much more is possible than I ever thought! I highly recommend this place. read more

I'm giving Sarah a 5 plus. She's wonderful! Super nice, really took the time to take a thorough history and listen to all that ails me (insomnia), and had a wonderful acupuncture space. Fluffy pillows, zen music, lavender oil- what more could you want. As for acupuncture itself, I'm willing to try anything that involves not taking meds. My friends rave about acupuncture and how relaxing it is so I thought why not. For myself personally acupuncture did not work. I found the very small needles (they're barely needles really) disconcerting and painful in certain locales. Sarah would move the needles around if it was particularly painful (I've had a few surgeries and have a pretty high pain tolerance) but I never really enjoyed the experience or found myself relaxing. Also laying in there for 30 minutes waiting for the magic to happen was not the most pleasant experience. Sarah once again was awesome and tried to make it work, but alas it was not meant to be. I never walked out feeling relaxed and my sleep unfortunately didn't improve (I've realized the key is not working overnight and swing shifts- brilliant observation on my part if I do say so). I hate to see my own patients spend unnecessary $$, but I do think any type of complimentary and alternative medicine is definitely worth a try if it means taking less/no meds and can truly improve your symptoms. If you're tossing around the idea of acupuncture for whatever ails you I highly recommend Sarah. Its certainly worth a try and I'm thrilled I gave it a chance. read more

Read this if you chose to get treatment at acupuncture northwest!! I called to cancel a Tues appt more than 24 hours before on Mon (due to not being able to call on the wknd) and the receptionist said no problem and cancelled it. I immediately received a $100 charge on my credit card without any notification. I called the office back immediately to re-instate the appt rather than get charged, and they didn't return my phone call for 8 hours and then said it was not possible to refund/re-instate the appt. No matter the cancellation policy, ANY business needs to notify you if they charge your credit card ESPECIALLY for $100. This has been one of multiple incidents where my credit card has been charged without being notified by them... I tried to reach out about this and my concern was dismissed VERY rudely. You should be concerned if Northwest Acupuncture has your card on file!! read more

I've been going here for nearly seven years following two motor vehicle accidents and countless physical therapy and chiropractic sessions that didn't seem to provide much long term relief. After nearly giving up hope on returning to my quality of life, I met Sarah and have never turned back. Following my accidents I never imagined living a life free of pain before I met her. read more

Oh Acupuncture Northwest, what would I do without you? I first started seeing Sarah for sciatic pain and was immediately impressed by her compassion towards my unease for taking oodles of drugs. Within three sessions I was walking with no pain and completely free of pain relievers. Being a bit of a skeptic, my doubts were relieved by the physical reaction I could actually feel when Sarah released the muscles in my hip and back. This is real medicine and it is powerful. A little over a year ago after many, many doctor visits and countless labs, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I went from someone who rarely ever saw the doctor to a Kaiser regular overnight. After being prescribed a ridiculous amount of drugs, some with horrifying side effects, and seeing only a small improvement in my health, I knew I had to seek alternative treatment. Calling Sarah again was the absolute best thing I could have done! Over the last year I have gone from not being able to make a fist or walk without a wobble, to kickboxing workouts and hiking. With Sarah's help I have taken back my life and knocked down my long list of medications to only one. Sarah is a bit of a witch doctor, meaning her intuition is off the charts. She has helped me manage my RA in a way that I never knew was possible and I absolutely recommend her for anyone struggling with RA or other chronic pain. The office is very clean and comforting and I appreciate the recent US Weekly always to be found. I may be into silencing my mind but I still want my gossip as well. Ha. Bottom line: Give it a try. You're only cheating yourself if you don't. read more

I went to Acupuncture Northwest to help with my neck and back after a car accident. The facility is beautiful and very comforting. Everyone I have met there has been extremely helpful and bright. Rachel Gilman came to my rescue and truly has made me feel so much better physically and mentally. She is warm and amazing at what she does! She understands what I need, and is clear about how she can help me. I would recommend working with Rachel to anyone. read more

Everyone at Acupuncture NW is amazing. Steph has helped me through so much from anxiety to aches and pains. She really takes the time to listen to what you are saying and genuinely cares for your well being. If I've slacked off for a few weeks on my spots she checks in to make sure everything is ok. Also, Wade is a rockstar- best customer service and smiling face. read more

I am a strong believer in the health benefits acupuncture provides and highly recommend Acupuncture NW. Having relocated from the LA area, finding a new acupuncturist was a top priority for me, as acupuncture is part of my ongoing health and wellness plan and after a lot of research, I was lucky enough to find Acupuncture NW. The office is accessible, the front desk staff is great, they carry the supplements I was previously using (this is huge) and the practitioners are amazing. I see Rebecca on a very regular basis for general health and wellness, seasonal allergies, muscle release, etc. and I highly recommend her. Not only is she great at treating ongoing issues, she helped me get back on my feet (LITERALLY) after a terrible back sprain. Rebecca relieved the pain and helped get me walking again, which was huge since multiple visits to urgent care and the ER were pointless. Rebecca is knowledgeable, patient and really listens to her patients to determine the best course of treatment. I have also worked with Stephanie and I highly recommend her as well. If you are new to acupuncture, looking to find a new practitioner, new to Portland and need a new acupuncturist, I highly recommend Acupuncture NW. You just can't go wrong with this team. read more

I'm embarrassed how much I rave about Sarah Hayes to friends and family. Seriously, she's just that good. She helped me initially with some terrible back pain, and I've continued to go on a regular basis to maintain good health. My sense is that she can help with a range of issues. I believe strongly in the value of acupuncture, and I'm so glad to have Sarah as part of my wellness team. Funny story... I have a friend that was raving about their acupuncturist. I told them that they couldn't be as good as my accupuncturist. Until we discovered we both see Sarah!!! read more

If you've got literally any sort of problem Steph can fix it. But seriously, she's a miracle worker and it is a treat to have an appointment at this place. Also Wade at the front desk is the best, and if you are intimidated by the idea of trying acupuncture you will feel so welcome and comforted here. read more

By having a profession as an athlete and trainer, the wear and tear on my body is tremendous -- especially after major surgeries and car accidents. Stephanie and Sarah have been one of the few constant things I can depend on when my body is struggling to make it. Not only do they help restore me to good health physically, but also mentally and emotionally. My body is always relaxed (in less pain), and my brain is more calm (anxiety) after every session with them. They take the time to get to know their patients, and you can tell they love what they do. Acupuncture NW is a good constant in my life, and for that I am grateful. It's a place not only for restoring health, but also great for promoting and maintaining it. read more

Somewhere between looking for the next great brunch spot and a reasonably priced pedicure, a die hard Yelper is searching reviews for acupuncturists, I suppose. Hence, this ramble. if you're already entertaining the notion of acupuncture you fall into one of two camps: You're either an experienced patient or you're new to this. For the indoctrinated, I can assure you these practitioners know their stuff. They are thorough, thoughtful and professional. I've arrived to the table with multiple injuries incurred through a car accident, cross fit and age (not all at once, thankfully). Each time, my pain has subsided, inflammation has decreased and my mobility has increased. For the newbie (or skeptic), there is no bigger whiner than I. If something is going to hurt, I'll be nervous about a week and a half before. If I sense discomfort, I will swear like a sailor (although I always envisioned sailors as much more refined). All this to say, I get it if you're a bit apprehensive about someone sticking needles into your fleshy parts. The feeling itself is subjective, but even pain is not something that lingers in a skilled practitioners hands. At Acupuncture NW, pain is quickly replaced with powerful muscle release and oftentimes, a sense of relaxation and euphoria. At most you'll feel a momentary prick or muscle ache, but that's worth the relief that sustains well past your time on the table. I'm giving Stephanie and Sarah five stars because they take their role as healers seriously and that means creating connections with the souls who inhabit each body that walks through that door. And that's enough for me to keep showing up. read more

I've been coming to Acupuncture Northwest for about a year and a half and it is the oasis in my week. They treat the underlying cause, not just the symptoms. I love the clinical focus and the staff are awesome! I moved to Vancouver and I still commute down once a week because it's that good. read more

Since I discovered Acupuncture Northwest four years ago, I've referred many people to their services. Friends and coworkers have all reported positive experiences. And Acupuncture Northwest has helped me immensely, with everything from stress and exhaustion to back pain and bone spurs. It's worth noting that they've been able to help/ease/fix/heal my ailments even when my primary care physician couldn't. The team is professional and the office is relaxing -- think private rooms, heated beds, nature sounds and lavender smells. After a session at Acupuncture Northwest, I feel rejuvenated, healthy and happy. I couldn't recommend a visit more. read more

Steph is absolutely wonderful! I find her acupuncture sessions more relaxing than a massage. I look forward to every visit. If you're looking for an acupuncturist- definitely check out Acupuncture Northwest! read more

Skeptical of acupuncture at first, I am now a forever fan because of Sarah and this wonderfully comfortable and modern space. No tie dyes and crystals hanging, sleek well thought out rooms and exceptional service. I even got to choose my own music on her Ipod, which made it that much better of a experience. She is incredibly knowledgeable and the service from the front desk to heading out the door was just perfect. Go, and then tell all of your friends. I did. read more

I love Acupuncture Northwest! I have seen Sarah for about 6 months and couldn't recommend anyone more. I had never been to an acupuncturist before, had no idea what to expect, but was intrigued and willing to try it out after I'd heard rave reviews about Sarah. Initially, I had expected it to be much like a doctor appointment - straight forward, sterile, in & out. But, what I received was not only highly competent medical attention but an extremely supportive, understanding, and compassionate environment as well. I have complete confidence in Sarah's abilities as a practitioner and an extreme sense of calm in her presence. She has helped me immensely and I truly look forward to every appointment. read more

For the past 20 years, I have been on what seemed like a never ending journey to find the ONE practitioner in the Portland area that would first, truly listen to me, and secondly, have the skills necessary to help me achieve my health and wellness goals. I found that and more in Sarah Hayes. She is unquestionably, the most caring, gifted, thoughtful, and uber talented practitioner in this entire area. I feel beyond blessed to have begun working with such an amazing healer. I would gladly give her 10 stars if I could. read more

first visit was great. The minute you walk in, you know you will get better. Only had one treatment so far, but have high hopes.

Sarah and her crew are amazing -- they can fix your torqued body, your displaced psyche, and everything inbetween. To put it succinctly (rare for the internet, I know, I know), quoth a friend who is also a patient here -- "I love that woman. She keeps me sane." read more

I have been coming to Acupuncture NW for a few years now. I was recently in a car accident and suffered a serious concussion and I attribute my healing to Steph! Some time ago I visited with Stephanie at Acupuncture Northwest about sleeping irregularity. For many years I thought I was just a "light" sleeper. I would wake up in the middle of the night, my mind would race and keep me awake. What I thought was normal sleep behavior was affecting my productivity during the day, especially by the afternoon. Stephanie asked me to try acupuncture along with breathing and relaxation techniques. By keeping up with my treatments the results have been amazing. I look forward to going to sleep and sleeping deeply throughout the night. I wake up refreshed and with the renewed energy to complete my day. Stephanie is very passionate about Chinese medicine and its gentle, non-invasive treatment. Its become my primary care not only for sleep but also for things like minor hand/finger arthritis and even a common cold. Thank you Stephanie and Acupuncture Northwest, I'm so glad to partner with you. Philip B. read more

I highly recommend Acupuncture NW for an overall healing, comforting, compassionate and soothingly relax filled experience. I have had both Sarah and Stephanie treat me with acupuncture. The initial consultation is not comparable to any other first appointment that I have had with other medical professionals. You instantly know that the healing practice at Acupuncture NW is focused on all aspects of your physical and emotional health. Absolutely no judgment or pressure. Stephanie and Sarah are compassionate, dedicated, and the utmost in patient care and professionalism. I have received from my acupuncture most recently with Stephanie, great releif from neck, shoulder and lower back pain. As well as an overall improved internal/emotional/ hormonal balance. If I could, I would have a treatment every other day! read more

I tore my Achilles tendon 2 months ago and was dealing with muscular tightness in my upper pectorals (on top of dealing with healing after surgery) which my PCP deemed will go away with time and Physical Therapy. The PT worked for a bit, but then the tightness came back even stronger. Also dealing with a lot of anxiety, sleeplessness, and stress after surgery. My girlfriend did some searching around and said why not give Acupuncture a try and we found Acupuncture NW after doing online searching and scheduled an appointment. Three treatments in with Rachel who is great, compassionate, and does such an amazing job of applying the right treatment plan for my symptoms; my muscular tightness has gone away, sleeping back to normal, and my anxiety has gone down tremendously. Also with the Acupuncture my surgically repaired Achilles tendon has become more flexible which is huge as I am now walking adding weight with crutches on the foot. I will continue getting treatments during my healing process and even after full recovery to help with aches, pains, and dealing with life's stresses. If you are ever considering Acupuncture, Acupuncture NW is the first place you should call! read more

I am a 62 year old woman who was referred to Sarah Hayes in July, coming in with multiple health issues; Afib/anxiety attacks, digestive issues, muscle weakness, and pain. From the beginning of my first treatment with Sarah in July to the present, the afib/anxiety attacks are rare now, and my strength is coming back and digestion issues are improving. Sarah has me on the right track for my continued journey of good health and road to recovery! I highly recommend Sarah for those who need healing in their body. She is amazing! read more

As an Ironman age grouper (45-49) I usually get some type of tendinitis or other ailments every year. I have tried many many therapies to alleviate hamstring ligament tendinitis which usually takes up to six months to heal. I grew tired of the long recovery in traditional therapies and saw acupuncture being administered during the Winter Olympics so figured it was worth a shot. I looked on Yelp and Google and found Sarah who treats a lot of athletes. I went in and gave Sarah my history and my recent struggle with hamstring ligament issues. She looked me in the eye and said "I totally got this! You will feel 30-40% better after the initial treatment and should be back in shape after 4-5 treatments." She was spot on and even underestimated my recovery time. Most recently I had significant pain in my right calf a couple weeks after the Portland Marathon and for the first time in many years I had to walk and hobble in the last mile and a half of a regular 6 mile run. After 2 treatments I am back running with no pain. Sarah is my savior and I consider her a very important part of my training regiment. She is truly a professional and has delivered outstanding results for me while taking the time to cover my physical and emotional well being read more

Wonderful, clean and relaxing environment combined with amazing treatment. Sarah is the only doctor I have ever seen who was interested in learning about my total health, not just my complaint of the moment, and treating with her was so calm and compassionate. Her confidence and interest in my well being was refreshing, and I am excited to continue seeing her and using acupuncture to help meet my health goals. I highly recommend Acupuncture NW if you are experiencing acupuncture for the first time. My husband has been seeing Sarah for migraine treatment for months, and she has not only helped him immensly, but also put him at ease with seeking medical treatment - something he has never had before. read more

I don't think I can do justice in expressing how much I love Acupuncture NW. From the lovely office, to everyone that works the desk (all SO nice and helpful), I just feel so lucky to have found them. I have been seeing Sarah Hayes for 4 months now and she is beyond incredible. She is SO good at what she does and is by far the most caring medical professional I have ever worked with. She has managed to take care of and alleviate all I went to her for, and all along the way has been so interested, caring, and kind. She always has time for my questions and concerns and I always leave feeling so much better physically and emotionally. 5 stars isn't high enough, I give them a 10 :) read more

I was new to acupuncture and Sarah Carter showed me the light. Sarah is exceptionally knowledgeable and thoughtful, takes time to understand where and how my health is being challenged so we can work together to find a solution and I have ultimate trust in her skills and recommendations. Her continued education and interest in developing her craft is evident in her practice; she is professional, gentle and intuitive. In one session I experienced transformations in my body that both hooked me on acupuncture and opened me to the world of Chinese medicine, and I credit Sarah with ushering me to these discoveries comfortably. It's clear Sarah has found her calling as a practitioner and I've found an acupuncturist that I would recommend hands down to anyone, and I do. read more

I can not express enough how wonderful and super knowledgeable and extremely compassionate Sarah is about what she does.  Sarah is willing to listen to all your questions and concerns, she digs deep to try to find the root of the problem.  She not only wants to find the problem but she wants to help you fix it.  She has helped my 15 year old son and my 7 year old son containing to attention, anxiety and concentration issues about school.  Sarah has been so willing and has been as excited as I have been on the results of the supplements that I got for my boys.  The supplements have made such a huge difference in my boys and their concentration and ability to stay focused with less anxiety regarding them being at school.  I look forward to working with Sarah more and I HIGHLY recommend her to EVERYONE!!! read more

Like all of the other 5 star reviews, I just can't say enough good about Acupuncture NW. After seeking treatment for sciatica through 2 chiropractors with limited results, I was referred to Sarah for treatment. Unfortunately, because she is so good, she books up quickly. Fortunately, her friendly and compassionate staff helped slip me in right away. Sarah factored in everything about my condition (not just the acute and chronic pains and physiology behind it, but all of the realities of my life that affected or were affected by the condition) before recommending a treatment plan. In discussing my situation with her, I felt completely at ease because of Sarah's nurturing energy (and their spa like atmosphere helps too) while we discussed my situation, allowing us to best get at the whole picture before treating. Also, she deciphered all of my imaging reports (including a half-completed MRI) in order to best target the treatments. In addition to acupuncture, Sarah thought I could benefit from treatment with a TENS unit to relax some of the muscles causing pain. The combination of acupuncture and TENS has worked wonders with my sciatica. Previous to finding Sarah, I had pursued a myriad of exercises, workouts, chiropractors appointments, dietary changes, etc. enduring several months of the worst chronic pain I've ever had without finding significant relief with any of the other modalities. Now, with just a month of Sarah's combined acupuncture and TENS unit treatments, I'm 90% better and am confidant that I'm quickly headed towards 100%. I have had a variety and plethora of alternative care treatments in Portland with varying success, so I speak with experience when I say Sarah definitely had an impressive level of success treating me for sciatica. I would very highly recommend her to anyone with acute/chronic pain issues, or just anyone who needs/wants amazing acupuncture (and/or TENS) for whatever ails them. read more
