Plus, my battery was no longer holding a charge, so I was tethered to my adapter. This is the time at which I buy a new computer. But you can't get one with the CD drive anymore, and I still use mine for my outdated exercise videos and movies on the plane. So I consulted Joseph at Portland ComputerWorks about a tune up. He recommended I increase my memory, replace the battery and get a solid state hard drive. His pricing came in at under $400.00. He also cleaned the interior and tightened the hinge for the screen. I love the result! This machine should go on now for at least two more years. It's like having a new machine! I do not live anywhere near Portland ComputerWorks, but it was Joseph's appraisal, manner and trustworthiness that made me leave my personal grid. I won't go anywhere else in the future.

It's not just the price but his passion to help everyone get their computers fixed for a price much less than a new computer would cost. He spent days running programs and diagnostics then removing all kinds of malware and viruses I had acquired. I even found out that someone was using my computer to send out thousands of spam mail through a "back door" they had created. I also had a virus designed to steal account passwords. Jonathan cleaned all of this up. I believe places like big box stores purposely charge high repair prices so that you figure it is cheaper to purchase a new computer instead of getting yours fixed. I told Jonathan that I would share his talent and compassion with everyone which is why I am writing this review. Jonathan also told me he is very good with creating business related databases and web sites, and has done so for everything from mom and pop to multi million dollar businesses. And most important, he offers one on one computer classes for people who have questions, any questions at all regarding just about anything computer related which is why I am going back. Come here when you need the big guns…read more My Macbook Pro broke down, badly. He said he had 30 years of experience and by the time he was finished repairing it I believed him. I also appreciated his commitment to lifelong learning, being excited to work on a problem he hadn't seen before, which turned out to be a physically melted wire on the hard drive itself that was probably caused by a dust particle shorting it out. I don't think other computer repair places could have diagnosed and fixed my issue as quickly, and would have probably just given me the "you're better off just buying a new computer" line. For the amount of additional painstaking work of saving some of my files the total bill was very reasonable. My only regret that time was buying the additional RAM space he offered to put in while the computer was disassembled, which as far as I have noticed has only speeded up the boot up. If you already are pretty happy with your computer speed then save 60 bucks and skip this option. Two weeks later an internal cable gave out. Again he came to the fast and reasonable rescue and was able to improvise.
