For those who are not or have not contemplated a move with a dog to Hawaii, it is a process. Hawaii is rabies free, which is a great accomplisment, and its amazing that has been maintained for so long. All that means they take seriously anyone bringing any animal into the state (to the islands). You need the assistance of your existing local vet and several things need to be cooridinated with the animal control folks in Hawaii, the airline you are using, and the dog's (in this case) history. This includes documentation linked to past and current rabies vaccines, an appropriate protocol for managing heart worms and fleas, the data on an inserted micro chip, a blood sample examined by one of three national labs, and a visit to the vet within 10 days of travel to certify the pet is ready and healthy enough to travel by air. Calender items are critical. Several different links, all managed by people, must be coordinated. We got very frustrated until our son in LA connected us with My Pet Mobile Vet and we met Sierra (digitally). What a god send. She picked up all the pieces, made the necessary contacts, helped secure the flight, and basically turned it into a turnkey process for a very reasonable rate. If you are traveling with a pet, particulary if Hawaii is involved, I HIGHLY recommend My Pet Mobile Vet in general and Sierra in particular, if you can get her. My strongest point of refererence: Now that I know the process, I can likely handle it myself. But if I am traveling with out dog again, I won't do that, I will call Sierra immediately. THANKS for the huge assist! Craig

I called…read morethis facility seeking an honest, collaborative partner to help navigate my 14-year-old senior dog's recent degenerative myelopathy diagnosis. Instead, I was met with cold gatekeeping and a complete lack of transparency from the front desk staff, Brock. When seeking specialized physical rehabilitation, pet parents are already dealing with immense emotional and financial stress. I asked straightforward, basic questions regarding the estimated cost of a standard wheelchair/cart fitting so I could plan financially. I was told they couldn't give me any ballpark figures until I paid a mandatory $350 upfront exam fee. Furthermore, when I pushed for basic structural transparency, the staff member became defensive, took my questions personally, and refused to speak with me further, stating "someone else" would have to call me back. It is incredibly discouraging to be met with robotic gatekeeping when you are looking for an empathetic medical team to help your ailing animal. Veterinary care should be rooted in compassion, collaboration, and financial honesty--not hiding basic service costs behind a steep gate fee. If you are looking for an open, communicative partner for your pet's palliative care, look elsewhere.

Cats can be difficult but we cat lovers usually understand that and even respect that, but…read moresometimes they can be so difficult that a call to Dr. Sueda could be just the trick to help. My cat has always been iffy about using the litter box...it's been an issue we have been tackling with for about 9 years [she is 10] so you could say we're sort of used to it. When we started fostering additional cats and then ended up failing and adopting them into our household, our resident cat decided she was not having it and decided to NEVER use the litterbox for her poop. So every day I've been cleaning up after her. Soon she decided she wasn't going to use the litterbox to pee and anyone who has a cat knows what cat pee is like. While a good sauv blanc can have some cat pee smells, the smell is pretty nasty in general. We had mulled around over the years of calling Dr. Sueda. At the time, we were told that Dr. Sueda was the only vet trained animal behaviorist on the westside which means (I think) Dr. Sueda went to four years of vet school and then studied for another four years in animal behavior so she is well educated on the matter. Her fee was a bit more expensive than what we had wanted to pay but we figured why not? what do we have to lose at this point. Dr. Sueda came to see us in December 2017 and suggested a bunch of changes. Since then Misu has been using the litter box pretty regularly and it is now April 2018. There have been a couple of irregularities but so far so good. I am kicking myself for being cheap and not wanting to pay her fees sooner rather than later. We could have asked her to visit us years ago and that would have saved me from picking up so much poop! So I wholeheartedly recommend giving Dr. Sueda a call if you ever have any issues with your pet. Thanks Dr. Sueda!

Very defensive by nature so every responder is an unnecessary argumentative exchange....everything she told me she would do, all paperwork she sent not highly incongruent and again unprofessional. Tiptoeing walking on eggshells you name it miss use of Authority and the pet suffers as a result. Highly inhumane. What was once a very optimistic sigh of relief for a very nervous rescue could not be further from that situation at this point only found out after working with her. I already paid once for an after visit follow through for information. She should've followed through naturally on her own with. It's very disheartening to attempt to be reprimanded by your vet because of their unprofessionalism and lack of follow through and for me to be pointed out as difficult. All dialogue post initial visit should have been included in the initial visit or she should've stayed to follow through during that time. By no fault of my own, I continued to follow instructions and continue to believe and take her for her word. She talks over you and doesn't let you finish. She doesn't hear what you're saying or whatever you're saying she hears it incorrectly and lashes out at you. Very disappointed. I was very hopeful and very happy at one point. Thank you for respecting our privacy. We brought our dog here after she was diagnosed with SLO (Symmetrical Lupoid Onychodystrophy), a painful and debilitating condition that we weren't sure how to manage. We really weren't eager to jump between veterinarians trying to figure it all out, especially after already spending so much money addressing her condition. I came across Dr. Kaplan while researching veterinarians with experience treating SLO, and we made the two-hour drive from San Diego to see her. Taking a chance on Dr. Kaplan was absolutely the right decision. Everyone at Veterinary Skin & Ear has been professional, personable, attentive, responsive, and incredibly knowledgeable. Dr. Kaplan was wonderful. She was extremely knowledgeable about this rare condition and even took the opportunity to educate some of her staff while our dog was there. I also really appreciated that they went over the plan of care and costs with us upfront, so there were no financial surprises. While frequent trips to Los Angeles aren't realistic for us long-term, I'm so glad we made the effort to see Dr. Kaplan. She helped us put a treatment plan in place that we can continue with our local veterinarian, which was exactly what we needed. Dr. Kaplan is truly a beacon of light, and the entire staff at Veterinary Skin & Ear has been wonderful. We left feeling informed, supported, and much more hopeful about managing our dog's condition.
