I took the Comedy Cast Intensive with Gunnar Rohrbacher and Dorian Frankel. A very productive and fun day with lots of do's and don'ts. Real insight into the casting office through Dorian. Gunnar's take on comedy opens up a lot of new specifics for an actor to apply to any audition. Very helpful informative day. read more

I have been studying at the Actor's Comedy Studio for 9 months now and cannot see myself taking classes elsewhere. Not only is Todd incredibly observant and knowledgeable, but he represents your biggest motivator and fan in a town where true supporters are hard to come by. And everyone at the studio help in any way they can, becoming friends in the process. The classes are great for actors and sitcom writers as you study what makes jokes work from both sides of the coin, and the different characters on sitcoms you will portray. After only a few classes, you'll know what your "type(s)" is/are and be able to polish your characterization while always maintaining the humor of each scene. For a fun time and advancement in the industry, I highly recommend Actor's Comedy Studio. read more

ACS is absolutely fantastic! I seriously can't say enough good things about it. I currently take ongoing classes and have taken many of the workshops, and everything about the studio is top notch. I found out about ACS through a workshop that Gunnar did in Portland, OR and fortunately decided to enroll in regular classes once I moved down to LA. Talk about landing at the right place at the right time! The studio has not only been an excellent place to take classes and learn as an actor, but I also value that we have a great, supportive community of super awesome peeps. Everything the studio does is of the highest quality. They also make a concentrated effort to make sure that their classes and workshops, though they may touch on similar topics, are distinct and unique from each other. As far as the classes I have studied mostly with Gunnar and he is phenomenal. He is a focused, detailed teacher and he has an amazing depth of knowledge about the industry that I consider truly invaluable. I love that our classwork not only consists of learning so many incredible things about comedy, but also includes discussions about what is going on in the industry, developing our careers, and many other related topics that help you become a more well rounded artist. We work multiple times during class, we practice on camera, and we get specific, individualized feedback. Gunnar is able to really zero in on who his students are, their personalities, look, etc. and helps them hone in on their individual skills to develop their comedy in a specific and unique way. I feel super lucky that I started my journey in LA at ACS and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for excellent classes, to grow as an artist, switch things up in their career, or just connect with some terrific peeps. read more

Just took a headshot workshop with Steve. It was excellent and in general Actor's Comedy Studio is top notch.

I attended the one-day "Comedy Cast Intensive" workshop, and I think I learned more in that class than I have in my entire life! I look at Gunnar as sort of an "Actor Therapist" because he was able to break me down and help me see aspects of my personality that could help and/or hinder a career in acting. Although I'm still navigating the LA job market, he taught me things about myself that can translate into anything I do. If you need help in script analysis, auditioning techniques, or just life advice, GO TO THIS SCHOOL!!! :) read more

If you are looking for a great class where you will learn REAL SKILLS that will help you in REAL CASTING ROOMS come here. I love Gunnar. He does not blow smoke, he gives you the help and the confidence to succeed. I took a break from class because I thought I could do it on my own and then I did a workshop where the casting director gave me the SAME EXACT notes that Gunnar would give me in class. If I would have stayed in class, and listened, I would have nailed the audition. But I am back now and feeling better than ever. read more

I am going to try my best to put into words how amazing the Actors Comedy Studio is. I just finished the 10 week Sitcom Essential class and my mind is blown. I have learned more in this 10 weeks, than my college experience. Gunnar and Lauren teach you exactly what you need in order to feel confident going out there and auditioning. Actors Comedy Studio teaches you script analysis, helps you perform a multi camera scene in front of a live studio audience, and brings in guest speakers and teachers who come in to talk about their real experience in the industry. Every class for 10 weeks has something to learn from. This studio is the real deal. I highly recommend this course and their other workshops to anyone looking to further their education in this industry! read more

What an amazing community. I have been attending the Acting for Sitcom classes and I've learned an incredible amount of things that were necessary for me to know to be a growing actor. I have bad habits that have been holding me back, and I wouldn't have been able to recognize them if it weren't for these classes with Gunnar and Lauren. Actors Comedy Studio is a great place to learn and practice all sorts of comedy scripts. I have a lot of respect for this studio, and on top of the superb education, they always encourage a positive and kind working environment. The office (Dylan) is also excellent and very attentive to details regarding payment and attendance. I highly recommend this studio, you will learn a lot about yourself and you will also have tons of fun! :D read more

I'm so grateful to have options for studying during the pandemic. The studio is based in LA but thanks to zoom classes (they're not as weird as they sound!) I can study with some of my favorite coaches from New York. Everyone who works at ACS has more than enough of the inside scoop to get you prepared for what's to come during and post-pandemic. Highly recommend this studio to those out there who just want to brush up on their skills or take it to the next level. read more

This place has great classes and great spirit. I recommend it to people all the time, especially those who are looking for workshops that deal with sitcoms and script analysis. It's a wonderful complement to improv classes. read more

Gunnar is such an amazing acting coach and just a delightful human. Can't recommend enough and... read his book The Comedy Code! I'm an acting teacher and have already recommended it so many students. read more

I got so much out of taking class here. They really know their stuff. I highly recommend!

The Actor's Comedy Studio is one of the best classes in town, hands down. Todd is a wonderful teacher who is also a working professional actor, and is very honest with his acting notes and suggestions. The Actor's Comedy Studio is the only class I've taken so far that is devoted to sitcom acting - all of you actors out there that want to be on TV, this class is a must! There is never a wasted minute in class at ACS...all of the classes are well structured so that every actor/actress gets to perform 2-3 times EVERY CLASS and every performance is recorded to be reviewed at the end of the night! Getting to perform, get notes and then review my own performance has helped me get more comfortable in front of the camera and learn where I need to trim bad habits and become more expressive. Todd rocks! read more

I took the Comedy Cast Intensive with Todd Rohrbacher and Casting Director Dorian Frankel at the end of 2012, and to say I was impressed was an understatement. It wasn't too far in to the intensive I realized, "These people are on to something special...". Todd has studied TV Sitcoms, as well as the rest of the Industry, and has broken it down to a science. I immediately got myself into on-going classes, and after 5 months of training at ACS, I continued to be impressed with the amount of information Todd offers in every class. He begins class with a lesson and then we work on camera. I love it! I have studied all over town and am happy to say I have found my new home base. All of my classmates are truly passionate about the business and are doing something about it. Where it's self-producing content, pitching scripts to Industry leaders or attending the $20 Industry Workshops, the environment motivates you to push yourself and your career goals further. read more

I cannot recommend the Acting For Sitcoms class at ACS ENOUGH. Gunnar has an unparalleled passion for and understanding of comedy. At the beginning of each class he gives a brief but always amusing update on the current events in the industry, knowing that as actors it is imperative we are kept informed and on our toes and therefore empowered when it comes to taking the reins in our careers and steering in the right direction. He knows what's up and stays current. Class is made up of actors from pretty diverse backgrounds, from actors who just want to loosen up and be more comfortable with comedy to stand-up comedians looking to branch out and get some solid technique for translating their personas to on-camera work. And every class, they all progress. You will see it. Each week is a chance to improve your cold-reading skills and audition technique, learn to nail taking direction, and watch your second take on playback at the end of the night. The cost of class here is crazy low and as other people have mentioned ACS offers legit $20 casting director workshops and endless networking opportunities through its Facebook group and well, the other 15 or so working actors in class every night being encouraged to self-produce and just plain make-it-happen. I'm only half-kidding when I say Gunnar is the Dumbledore of comedy. He can take any muggle struggling with finding the funny and with the right combination of spells turn them into a competent comedy wizard. Do yourself a favor, Accio your cellphone, conjure up an orientation meeting with Gunnar, and you'll find your patronus has mysteriously changed to a whimsical, bespectacled little man charging down dementors while giggling and bellowing out, "Hello, everybody!" read more

To take class here you have to pay for a series of 6 classes with a deposit for one extra class. I thought that was a bit strange, but proceeded to take the classes. Lauren was my teacher and she was great. I took the on-camera audition technique class and we did a lot of cold reads that we would then film and review, it was extremely helpful. Twice I had a sub, who was also very sweet, but focused more on acting techniques and during those classes we never filmed our scenes or saw ourselves on camera, which was a slightly disappointing. For my last class, I had a family emergency and had to miss class, since everything happened so quickly, I wasn't able to tell ACS until after I had missed the class. I explained to them what had happened, and expressed that I would like to make up my last class the next week. They said no, that since I had not informed them I would be missing, I lost my deposit and could not take my last class. I sent a follow up email expressing my disappointment and hopes that I could still get my money's worth and take the final class, it was ignored. As much as I enjoyed Lauren and her techniques, I would never recommend ACS because of how poorly I was treated. I paid a lot of money to take those classes, and for each other class I was on time and fully attentive, I wish they could have been more understanding of my situation and let me make-up my final class or give me my deposit back. I felt I was treated coldly, and that's not the atmosphere you want when finding an acting studio. read more

I moved to Los Angeles one year and four months ago to pursue a dream like many people do. My dream is to be a successful actor in comedy and drama and to be involved with commercials, television, film, and voice over work. One of the very tough decisions is where to take classes, especially when you are brand new to L.A. I made my decision and was very pleased with it, but Todd branched off on his own venture to start his studio, ACS. My decision was to follow Todd because I believe he is strongly dedicated to a purpose; and that is to be a leader in the newest, most innovative ideas with technology involving acting, being one of the best teachers in town with a great deal of experience, and taking this very competitive business to the next level! Simply put, if you want to pursue acting, you will need classes and this is where you need to be! read more

I just finished taking the Sitcom Essentials 8 week course and it blew my mind how amazing the course is. First of all, the teachers who taught the different classes are all very passionate, knowledgeable, giving, encouraging and supportive. There were performers from all levels: from just starting out to seasoned professionals. And the teachers made it challenging, fresh and interesting for all above. The amount of information I was able to walk away with from the course is mind blowing. I learned about the different comedy character archetypes, how to breakdown a comedy script (so huge :) ), improv techniques to keep the scene fresh, what happens during auditions from the pre read to network testing and booking a series regular, what adjustments I need to make to create a single camera and multi-camera performance and what a casting director is looking for in pictures and in your auditions. Oh and let me not forget to mention the live performance. Each performer was paired up and given a different scene unique to what they would be cast for in the field. And we worked on the scene during the course of the time and performed it in front of an audience with three different cameras going....multi-camera sitcom style. Even though I've had previous experience of performing on multi-camera tv shows, I still learned a lot.....things I wish I learned before. I came away from this course confident about who I am as a performer and what my strengths and weaknesses are. I am so glad I took this course. Actor's Comedy Studio is creative and innovative in the way they teach their classes. They are passionate and serious about what they do. And they really know how to prepare their students for working in the professional world. Thank you so much Gunnar and Lauren, you are truly wonderful and a gift to actors. read more

Todd has created an amazing studio where actors can come together to learn craft and business skills, find their unique 'funny', and grow as artists and professionals in a supportive community. I am so grateful to Todd for his expertise and amazing insight. His classes and private coaching have been instrumental in my acting career. With so many different workshop places in town, I had never even heard of ACS. I only discovered them because I was trying to find a way to meet CD Dorian Frankel --- and ACS seemed to be the only place she was doing workshops, so I signed up for Dorian's one-day intensive. The space was great, the workshop was incredibly informative and well-run, the feedback was spot on --- and a delicious homemade lunch was included in the price. I am now very interested in the other classes Gunnar Todd Rohrbacher teaches --- as well as their regular workshops which are priced at $20 --- which is the best deal in town. read more

I've been studying at Actors Comedy Studio just shy of two years now. I've had the pleasure of studying & working with all of the studio's founders & teachers. I started from the ground up with Lauren in the Foundation class then progressed into Gunnar's Master Class. The wonderful thing about studying with ACS is not only do you get an in depth understanding of performing sitcom comedy, but also of the industry as a whole. They are very transparent in their knowledge of the industry & do not want you to miss out on any opportunities. They support you & celebrate you on your successes. It is truly like a family. I have come to grow so much as an actress, a person, & a business woman. They have really taught me to value myself & my craft. And you get to go to class every week & laugh your booty off...so what's not to like?! read more

I just completed the 10 week long Sitcom Essentials Class and I feel it has been money and time well spent. Gunnar and Lauren, the two co-founders as well as teachers, share a great depth of knowledge between them and are extremely eager to share. They maintain a friendly atmosphere, and you can tell both get a lot out of sharing their knowledge with the students, which I feel is extremely important. As for the course material, it covers the gamut, with equal parts lecture and practical exercise. You will learn script analysis, character archetypes, and have guest speakers who are working professionals explain different aspects of the industry (agents and managers/working actor). Also included is a live taping with three cameras and a writing staff to simulate working on a sitcom, and it is an eye opening and educational experience, after which you will have a nice clip of your comedy experience at work. To be fair, this is not an in depth exploration of any of the individual components, but a highly useful overview, and our class consisted of both beginner and advanced actors, all of whom seemed to get something out of the class. As you can tell, I was extremely pleased with the information I gained throughout the classes, as well as the people I worked with and met. I've taken other acting courses and improv classes, but if you are looking for a great over view of sitcoms and comedic acting, then this is the class for you. Informative, friendly, and practical. read more

ACS is THE ONLY place to train for sitcoms as far as I'm concerned. I have studied at ACS for over a year now and I have nothing but the most positive things to say about this studio and the people who run it. Gunnar and Lauren are some of the most intelligent people when it comes to knowing the ins and outs of what it is happening in situational comedy today and right now. They're eternally focused on keeping on top of what's going on in the industry and making sure they are teaching they're students what's important and how best to understand how to create the best auditions possible. Not only is ACS an AMAZING place to train and hone your skills, but it is also a place that has felt like another home for me. Having a network of like-minded people has always been important to me for my "artistic health" and I'm so glad to say that ACS has provided a community of hard-working passionate artists that I am continually inspired by. I have the utmost respect for my peers at the studio and for Gunnar and Lauren who are two of the most inspiring individuals I have ever met. The studio that they have created is nothing short of amazing. If you are looking for amazing training in a positive environment taught by people who are on top of the industry than ACS is the right place for you. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Actors Vocal Program they offer with instructor Corinne Dekker. Yes, you heard me right. An Comedy Studio that offers amazing voice lessons. Whether you are a beginner or experienced professional, Corinne is an amazing teacher. She understands the voice and the vulnerability it can bring and she makes you feel comfortable in the classroom and explains things in a way that make you feel like you just encountered a miracle. Go to this studio for the BEST training around. read more

Since beginning classes with Todd in February, I have become more confident in my technique and performances. I appreciate that we are encouraged to bring any questions about life in the industry and he not only gives guidance but the other students are generous in sharing their own experiences so we can all learn and be better informed actors. We get in front of the camera in every class and the experience of viewing our performances immediately following them allows us an opportunity to see what we're doing with the performance fresh in our minds. It's a great and supportive learning environment and a truly exciting place to grow. read more

As someone just getting into the comedy/acting scene, I decided to attend one of the Comedy Cast Intensives at ACS and within the first 15 minutes, I fell in love. So much so that I decided to also sign up for Todd's Acting for Sitcoms class. The Comedy Cast Intensive was incredibly informative. Todd and Dorian work great together and provide their extensive knowledge working in the industry, helping everyone stay one step ahead. They also take the time to give individual feedback to everyone there---which was a very supportive group of very talented people. So far, I'm loving Todd's Acting for Sitcoms class and will definitely be taking the Comedy Cast Intensive again in the future! read more

I've been attending Todd's classes for about 6 months and it has honestly been one of the most wonderful class experiences I've had as an actor, anywhere. He seems to hit the nail right on the head week to week with our discussions on the business and current events. I find it to be very motivational and sort of exactly what I need to hear wjich makes me think Todd might be kind of psychic.... You also gotta love the fact that this class breaks down and works on COMEDY, specifically, in a way you might not necessarily think to do with comedy auditions and scripts! The price is good, the $20 workshops are unbeatable, and the vibe In class is super fun and chock full of talent. Couldn't recommend it more for my comedy peeps in L.A! read more

I signed up for the ACS Comedy Cast Intensive on a whim when a friend of mine told me he was taking it that week. Not knowing much about the intensive/studio, I wasn't sure what to expect. A few months ago, I got a last minute audition for a very popular web series. The script wasn't available ahead of time, so I knew that I would have to work hard and fast on it once I got to the session. When I arrived, I sat down with the script and began breaking it down using the tools and processes that Todd had taught me at ACS. After about 4 minutes, the writer of the series came out of the room and said that they were ready for me. I remember thinking to myself that I felt confident with my understanding of the script, the character I was playing, the circumstances, what made the scene funny, and that I was as ready as I was going to be for a cold read. I went into the audition and they laughed- the writer, director and lead actor. More importnantly, I wasn't "acting" in the scene, I was really in it. The combination of having an incredibly strong acting foundation and the confidence to go with it was what got me the job. And that's what I realize is so great about Todd Rohrbacher and ACS- they build your foundation, craft and confidence. They want you to succeed. Their goal is to get you to a point where you don't need them anymore, because you're that good. How many acting teachers in Hollywood can you say that about? Having run the gambit of acting schools in LA, I can honestly say that ACS is the best program I have been to, and that they truly care about making their actors better and seeing them succeed big time. It's not just a school- it's a community. And no one can succeed without a supportive community behind them. read more

I've been studying with Todd for a while now but he recently opened his own studio... "The Actors Comedy Studio" and we do something new and exciting every class. He always thinks about what will be useful in our day to day lives and auditions and we will revolve a whole class around something he thinks we need to focus on. For example one class we focused on status in scenes... Who has the upper hand or the lower hand in the scene...we started out with a fun improve game with putting the characteristics of the status into our body... how the person would walk, hold themselves, talk etc. Then we brought "status" into our scenes. The next week I had a general meeting with the amazing casting director Mark Teschner of "General Hospital" and it was funny because we were talking for a while as actor to casting director and that dynamic and then he gave me a scene to perform that I hadn't seen before. The interesting thing was that the "status" in the scene had switched and I was the character in the position of power and the casting director wanted something from me... so I immediately thought of what we did in class and it helped a lot. Todd has also prepared me for getting into Groundlings etc...If I ever stop taking his class for even 2 weeks.... my acting and my happiness in live declines. He is now looking for new and creative ways to help his students succeed besides just teaching them acting. Shannon Kingston read more

Coming from NY, and having most of my experience be from the stage, I needed to find a studio where I could work on my on-camera technique. Not only did I find that at ACS, I found so much more! Every class is on camera and we get to watch back all the work we do in class. It has been extremely helpful for breaking certain habits and feeling confident when I audition on camera. Todd also pushes us to learn more about our industry through self production, writing, networking, etc. My favorite class was when he put us in groups of 2 and gave us all the same scripts, but with one character's lines missing. We then had to work together as partners and write the rest of the dialogue. 20 minutes later, we passed all the scripts to the right. We then got to edit our neighbor's work. After another 20 minutes, we passed them back and got to make final edits to our own scenes. After all that, we put them all on camera and the results were astounding. In under 2 hours we had written and shot 20 original scenes and they were all really good! To see how some people set up jokes or used the fixed lines to provide the punch lines was awesome. It motivated me to go home and start writing a web series because I saw how easy it was to just start doing it! I would recommend this studio to anyone at any level because Todd can truly help actors who have the drive to become successful. read more
