After agreeing to do my sidewalk and driveway for $6800, (2,000 for sidewalk and 4800 for driveway) this scammer forced me into contract saying he charged too cheap and I would have to sign a contract for him to do the work and took $4000 after finishing the sidewalk. Then bamboozeled an extra $900 for asphalt which was blamed on covid delays, but surprisingly he had some super asphalt that would not leak and was a lifetime guarantee. I agreed like an idiot before erasing all the terrible reviews of how he scammed hundreds of ppl out of money. I saw him and his team on my cameras stealing my rake, shovel and sledgehammer when I complained he returned someone else's rake and shovel (used and old), but not the sledge hammer. He cracked the newly laid concrete with the steamer and never fixed it. After many calls he has not returned my calls. Left garbage and old shovel on my property. Sidewalk is now puddling when it rains. I told him this info and he said there is some kind oil in the asphalt that will subside and it will drain. He messed with the wrong person. I invite all who has been scammed by this man to join me in a petition to put him out of business. I'm writing to our states politicians, the consumer bureau and my military superiors about this man! We contracted you to re-do our driveway on May 8th, 2020 and paid you in full for the job although there were still materials, and debris that you were supposed to take care of and has been sitting in my backyard since the driveway was completed. A little back story. We agreed on a price that "didn't matter the form of payment." After the job was completed John called me to tell me due to everything that is going on they had to close their office and they couldn't take a credit card payment anymore and I needed to pay in cash. Ignoring the red-flags I paid this in full after having to scramble to get to a bank in order to get the payment. John called me every day multiple times to check-in with me about when I could meet him with the cash. (At this time I was still working) As of this review, the debris is still sitting in my backyard and John has stopped returning my calls and text messages about removing the items from the property. On June 4th I sent an email to the email address on the website due to the fact that John stopped answering my calls and texts. This email was answered on June 4th stating that is was being looked into. On June 12th I sent a follow-up to the response. On June 12th I received an email saying this would be picked up on June 13th in the morning. On June 13th I sent an email at noon asking when they would be coming to remove. No Response. At 7 pm I explained that the items still hadn't been resolved. On June 14th I spent the afternoon moving everything off of my grass (that it was sitting on and killing) and on June 15th I emailed to explain to them that I moved them. No response. I followed up on June 18th asking for a response. No Response. I follow up on July 6th explaining that this was my last time reaching out. No Response. On May 15th (The date that we paid in full) John told me that he would have the team with a trailer return to the property to remove the debris. Noone came. On May 19th I reached back out to John and he did not respond to my text message. On May 23rd I reached back out via text message, and did not receive a response. On May 27th I reached back out and did not receive a message or resolution. All of these messages show as read. I called and spoke to John on May 29th, and he expressed his apologies that the stuff was still on my property and not picked up and he would have someone come over that night with the trailer to remove it. Since then I left a Message on June 2nd as to the status. My calls go immediately to voicemail. I am concerned that it has taken this long for a resolution on a job that is fully paid for, and I am worried that this is going to impact our "free seal coat" getting scheduled and completed in an acceptable time frame. Update: John contacted me the day of this review July 9th, promised to remove everything by that weekend. He also asked me if I would take the review down because it was affecting his business - I agreed to take it down when he picked up the debris. It's still in my yard. The reason this is a one star is because I can't give "zero" stars. This is a combination of bait and switch, substandard work, failed to complete the job, and not honoring a warranty. When I first contacted this company, a company representative came to my house and surveyed my driveway. I told him I wanted to patch the areas where the tree roots and seal the driveway. He told me that they would put down a coat of sealer, fix the areas over the roots and they apply a top coat of sealer. "You won't even be able to see where the roots were" Michael said. He then proceeded to quote me a price of $1800 for the service. I agreed and he told me that they were doing a job locally on May 26, and they would be by then. They showed up, unannounced, on May 13th, offloaded one worker with a concrete saw and a plastic broom, sealer and a (1) bag of asphalt. More on this later. They called me ( I was out walking my dogs) to tell me that the driveway had absorbed more of the sealant than anticipated, so the needed to use more. It would cost me extra, but they would only charge me for the sealant and not the labor. Since I figured this meant that they needed a third coat, I agreed. At 4:30, they came to the house and announced that the worker was finished. The front of the driveway looked fairly good at this point and they asked me if it looked ok. Again, at this point the front looked ok. I could not really examine the back because the whole thing was still wet. They then informed me that the job would cost $3000, a 70% increase. I then made a huge mistake. I normally wait until the company has cleaned up and I have had the opportunity to examine the whole job before I pay a contractor. For whatever reason, I wrote them a check on the spot. The check show as cashed at 8:00 on May 14th. No time was wasted on that item. I called the company on the 19th and informed them that they had not removed the asphalt the was dumped on my lawn, and the bag, broom and all of the tubs were still in my yard, and asked them to address some concerns that I could now see since I could walk out on the driveway in the back yard. They expressed concern and said that they would be by the next day (the 15th) to clean up. The refuse remains in my yard as of this writing (June 22nd). The driveway was not cleaned prior to applying sealer. This step is specified in step one on the sealer bucket. This is evident buy the fact that you can see the moss that was on the driveway through the sealer and because large sheets of the sealant are now peeling off. The cracks that were in the driveway were not filled with crack filler as specified in step three of the instructions on the sealer bucket. The patches we literally thrown in and not tamped down with a tamping tool "to surface level" as per step 4 on the sealer bucket. And finally, the sealer was just layered on in thick puddles I suppose the "Allow patch and repairs a minimum of 24 hours to cure" step in step five on the sealer bucked is just a suggestion. Since then, they have promised me, four times, that they would come over to fix it. On four different occasions now, I have spent the enticed day waiting for them to show up. The last was Saturday June 20th. They don't even bother to call when the aren't showing up. I initially withdrew this review because ( unbelievably) I let them talk me into another attempt to fix my driveway. I spoke with the manager on Tuesday the 23rd. I agreed to take down this review in exchange for them fixing my driveway and cleaning up their mess. I called John on Friday and he confirmed he would be there on Saturday, June 27th, with a crew at "8:30 or maybe earlier". At 10:00am on Saturday, with no "crew" in sight, I called a full voicemail box which was also unable to forward an SMS text. I got a call from Active Paving at around 2:00pm, but when I picked it up, they hung up. All further attempts to contact the company have been fruitless. Oh, and by-the-way, the sales receipt show the originally agreed on 2 coats of sealer, so I am very confused as to what I paid an extra $1200 for. These guys are long on charm and excuses, and short on professional ability and integrity. I strongly recommend that you avoid doing business with them. Update: I sent a complaint to consumer affairs at the New Jersey Attorney General's office. Remember the commercial the Attorney General did to encourage people to call with complaints during the Covid problem? Well, calling will not get you a live person under any circumstances. Sending an email to the posted address on their site yields a form response. I finally printed out the complaint form and mailed it to them, certified, on the 1st of July. They received it on the 6th of July. To date, I have received no acknowledgement, of any kind, to let me know that they have even received the package. My driveway was in shambles. I kept putting it off because there was no way I thought I could afford such a big job. I called Active for an estimate just to see because every other estimate was at least $8000+ and to my surprise they came in with a bid that was less then half of every estimate I had received. I basically hired them on the spot. They had my whole driveway in just a few hours. He even came back the next day to make sure I was completely happy with the job he had done. I had my driveway done with asphalt and Belgium blocks and in less than 1 month the cement around the Belgium blocks started to crumble. The asphalt was not leveled and there are puddles on the driveway whenever it rains that I was told would resolve over time. I have called the representative every week for a month, to no avail. He kept telling me, "I'll be there Monday. If not Monday than Tuesday. I have you on the list". To add insult to injury, every time I call he gives me a different name. All the tell tale signs of a scammer. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this company at all costs. It will cost you more money to repair the poor quality job that they provide. The craftsmanship is horrible. When I called another company to redo the Belgium blocks, he knew exactly who these guys were. Their reputations precede them, unfortunately, I learned the hard way. First of all I am completely disappointed in this company they will come to you all friendly and polite. They seem like the nicest honest people that you would ever meet so of course you would agree to let them do the work,unfortunately I had a very bad experience with them and I'm sure this will happen to someone else. So they were in the area doing other driveways and they offered to do mine, they gave me a great price so I agreed and in seeing their other work I was pleased so they completed my driveway on Friday, August 21 they left the rolling machine in front of my driveway so nobody would use it which is fine, on Monday when they came to collect the machinery they decided to go over the driveway one more time with the rolling machine and in doing so they created some indentation. I called that following Friday to let them know if they can come and fix that and they were also some pieces that looked like there were holes here in there that might come loose overtime and they also covered our what are turn off. One of the brothers whoever answered told me that John would be back on Monday and he will take care of it no problem well he never showed up I called they didn't answer I called again I leave a message they would call back and at one point his brother had told me that they were gonna be on the other street I went by there only because I go up that street and he was not there so when I called him and said I was on that street didn't didn't see him John flipped out and claimed that I was following him around and seeking him out which was not true. anyway he said he would come by he never came by to make a long story short this became a cat and mouse game. they would say they will come by they would never show up. I kept giving them the benefit of the doubt I would leave messages and at one point John said that he's so sorry he would call me back there was a bad connection I never heard from him it was very frustrating on my end to have to deal with people that would not respond to my calls or my messages and just couldn't come by and fix the problem I do have pictures that I took that day in the beginning when I first called and I will post them you could see I don't know if you could see the unevenness there was some pockets like I said and some indentation anyway the bottom line is do not trust them they're fake. I don't care if somebody had a great experience like I said the other driveways in the area that they did look fine to me mine not so. you're taking a chance and for a family business they should be ashamed of themselves for not coming by at least and just fixing that small little problem instead of just blowing me off. read more
