This website is a scam. I just wanted to sign up for a race and this company charged me for a yearly subscription. Never go to this website.

First off I want to thank the customer service rep who helped refund my money, he was great to work with. Now that that's out of the way...this company is scamming its users. All I wanted to do was sign up for a race and the next thing I know I'm seeing a $79 recurring charge on my bank statement. Upon investigation I was told that I forgot to uncheck a box at checkout...normal cause for a few spam emails, but this is too far. I will not be using Active Network in the future. For the sake of their employees and investors I hope that they find a way to QUICKLY amend this method and remove the decision makers who led to the decision to this policy being deployed. read more

Like many others, was charged $89.95. I called and demanded a refund. I have no idea how they got my credit card information.

I got hit with a charge after singing up for a 5k about a month ago ($89.95). Obviously there was no mention of this fee, or disclosure. This is absolutely unacceptable. read more

I'm leaving this review as a 5k race coordinator who hired active.com for our online registration. I had an amazing experience with excellent communication for the first couple of months. I would give that time a 5 star review. Everyone was very happy, seemed to like their job, and were very informative and helpful. About a month before the event, the account manager who was assigned to my race just stopped replying to me. I tried emailing and calling several times. No reply. This went on for a couple of weeks. I couldn't get ahold of anyone and that's when I finally looked at reviews and started to panic more because the reviews were not good. Then I found out that the account manager no longer worked there and then I had people bending over backwards to accommodate and help me. I started having excellent communication again. However, this experience made me have to remove a star. I would have removed more stars, but they really did own up to their mistake and do many things to make up for it. I incorporated Crowdrise (go fund me for non-profits) with our event, which I was told could be integrated into the active.com registration. The two companies have some sort of agreement together, but it is hard to understand and integrate and didn't really work for us. I'm sure I misunderstood some things, too, but because of this, I had to remove another star. Regarding the membership that people are complaining about: out of 643 race participants, I've had 1 complaint about this. I communicated with active.com and confronted them about these yelp reviews. He said that the program used to be an opt-OUT program, meaning it was automatically setup at checkout, unless you removed it yourself. They have since changed it to an opt-IN policy where people have to read and choose to become a member by selecting a series of boxes. So yes, you have to make sure you read and don't agree to something you don't want. Their membership offers a free 30 day trial and will automatically charge you the yearly fee after 30 days if you don't cancel within that time. Before you freak out, they give you 364 days to cancel your membership for a full refund. If you opt-in to the membership to save $4 in active.com fees, then remember to cancel the membership and check your bank account As a race director, I'm very thankful for registration management systems. We were able to give coupon codes and discounts and team signups and so much more because of this program. Will I use them again? I'm not sure, but I'm not totally against it. I will survey the participants and research some other companies and make a decision from there. I do think they have room for improvement within the company, but I don't feel badly for people who don't read instructions. read more

Same thing... I signed up for a St Patricks day race in 2015. Didn't realized along with that is a 30 day trial for this nonsense. Just realized I was charged $69.99 last week so I did some digging and apparently have an active account and have been charged $64.99 March 2015, $69.99 March 2016, and now again. I called but the wait was too long most likely dealing with this with others. What a scam! I didn't even run the race... but if I did I would have won. :) read more

Scammers, I went to a couple of Tough Mudders last year and had to use this company in order to get the tickets. You're automatically opted into their 89.95 per year plan. I know I did not opt into anything as I have no interest in "discounts" offered by this company. This is further confirmed by the fact they do not have a customer service phone number, just an email address you have to send an email to in order to request a refund. Avoid and reconsider the event you are participating in if they use these scammers. read more

Scam. I signed up for a 5k and they passed on my info to active. they had me pay $90 for 'active advantage.' Apparently some banks will stop the charges as fraud. My didn't. i called them and they canceled. this time of stuff makes me scared to do things online, or give my email or credit card info organizations. read more

I signed my boyfriend and I up for a Blacklight run a year ago in 2019 with coworkers. I noticed a total of FOUR $89.95 charges on my account, totaling to $359.80 dollars of charges that I never authorized. It is extremely sneaky and unethical to hide the 'opt out' button that I am seeing from every other review of unhappy customers. It took me several hours to even google what these charges were for, thinking my card had been stolen and hacked. This was SO not worth the hassle and money. I just hope they are able to redeem themselves and provide a refund, as they did for my coworkers that had the same thing happen to them and were refunded. read more

I signed up for a race in 2014. Same - they charged my credit card 30 days after the free trial. UNFORTUNATELY, I didn't notice til 2017 they have been charging me EVERY year. This time they charged me in March instead of September (6 months before membership renewal). I had to cancel my card and reported them to the Better Business Bureau - Dallas. I called and they did issue me a refund but only after chastising me for not reading the fine print. Specifically the register button which I was under the assumption was for the race itself. I assure you I was reading everything because I also caught the not so free magazines they offer you as well. read more

BEWARE!!! Check your credit card statement people. After registering for some MTB races through Active.com in 2014, I was unknowingly signed up to an annual membership for Active Advantage and charged a hefty, and sneaky $69.95 fee! This went on unnoticed by me for 3 years, until I saw the charge on my statement. Needless to say, I was PISSED! After I was HUNG UP ON by the representative on the first call, after 25 minutes on hold!!!, I finally spoke to someone and had the last 2 annual membership fees refunded, but not the previous 2 years! The rep said she couldn't do anything for charges that far back...total BS!! So, if at all possible, DO NOT USE ACTIVE.COM for any transaction involving your credit card. They will steal from you, then give you attitude when you call them on it. I'd give them 0 stars if possible. read more

Can't say much more than has already been said in every single other review. This company is built on defrauding and scamming consumers. Almost four years ago, I signed up for a half marathon with them, and to this day I still get random charges from Active Network on my American Express card from time to time. Luckily, AmEx is great about reversing the charges, but still annoying - and most likely illegal! Do not use!!! They are holding my credit card hostage, even after the Summer Camp (I signed my son up for) was cancelled due to COVID. They will not stop charging it and are not refunding my money from previous payments. They say there is nothing they can do even though the Camp's director has done everything they needed to do on their end to cancel the event. There is no way to go back into your account and delete the credit card or stop payment. I am now having to go thru my credit card company to dispute charges. read more

Stayed 10 minutes holding and was told that this "insurance" was from the camp, not from ACTIVE. Called the camp, and they did not charge this but cannot help me get the money back. Our local Middle School uses this company for registration for soccer. We only found this out after being charged and additional $89.95 30 days after registration. I have tried to reach out to the company to get our charges reversed, however; we are unable to. Why in the world would you put a hidden fee in for a nonprofit club for Middle school-aged children? read more

Got me, too, with the $89.95 annual membership fee. I dug through my Junk Folder and found e-mails from 3 days prior to the charge warning me it was about to happen but I don't routinely read Junk messages, especially not every 3 days or less. This is bad, guys. I know you reply to everyone and say you're going to refund them and I have full confidence I'll receive my money back, but I have no clue where this even got signed up from. It shouldn't be that way. And I'm sure I clicked or didn't unclick something but these are terrible business tactics. Make it more obvious and make it more deliberate for someone to opt-in. My complaint is the same as all others. I signed up for a raise on their site on January 10, 2020 and a month later I had a charge of $89.95 as a recurring charge. I never signed up for anything and their site is very misleading and it takes your credit card informationAnd charge an unauthorized recurring payment. I noticed my charge on a Saturday and their office is closed on Saturdays but I reached out to my bank and they were very helpful. I will be calling their office on Monday morning to make an official complaint with them. read more

The absolute worst company ever. The person who responds to every review about the company is so full of bologna. So many people have clearly stated that they were charged for an unwanted membership and that they read through all the terms and conditions and found no evidence of agreeing to this $90 membership (if this many people are having issues, just go ahead and admit that something is wrong with your company...). There were at least 2 times during my registration process where I HAD to pay an extra fee through Active in order to even register for the event, which is fine but there was nothing stating that I would also be paying for this membership. Luckily, my friend who's doing the same event as me told me to cancel the membership before I got charged the $90. I never made an account through Active (I checked out as a guest), but I had to make a request that "I forgot my password," and the website made me change my password 5 times before I could actually log in. They had all my data saved, and after 20 minutes of searching through their website, I finally found the option to cancel the membership. It was in such a sneaky place that no one would ever think to click on, not to mention I NEVER made an Active account. You guys are the actual worst. read more

The fact that their highest score is a 2 and that they only got one of those "high" scores tells you something! The guy that scored it a 2 did so because he got his money back from them. I tried calling for a refund but found out that their business hours are only M-F during regular working hours. That means that I will have to call them while I am at work! I can't even figure out how I got this "membership." Most of the reviews here are from people that were signing up for race events. The only thing I can figure out is that this is related to my daughter's school lunch account. Now that is low. read more

The executives should be ashamed. I've never experienced a company with such low standards and unethical business practices. 381 complaints on the BBB, trial membership scams, unauthorized charges, 1.5 stars on yelp, dubbed as "structurally insolvent", accounting fraud, lack of leadership, treacherous customer service and shamelessly hiding major contract components from their customers in the tiny, hard to find print. I'm disgusted. Furthermore, we've lost credibility of our event and organization because we used Active as our registration platform. We had hundreds of people that signed up day of the event just to avoid using Active, according to their response on our survey. If that doesn't tell you something about a company, I don't know what does. We've also had numerous people tell us on our feedback survey to switch registration platforms. Your company has caused us damage. We've caught your company in multiple accounting errors and you had to refund us a great deal of money. If we weren't diligent on your reports, we could have lost thousands. Additionally, how many other errors didn't we catch? How much money did you essentially steal from us? Lastly, your "account manager" never once went over the terms of the agreement even when asked about the terms. We tried to get out of using Active our first year because of the horrendous service, or lack there of. We were threatened by your company stating that in fine print we agreed to 3 years. This is absolutely the most despicable business practice of all. Again, you should ALL be ashamed. Tricking companies into a 3 year commitment while you devastate their reputation and anger their customers should be grounds for termination of the contract. No questions. Yes, I should have read the fine print slower, however, a major component of a contract, like the 3 year auto-renewal, SHOULD NOT be in the fine print. It's trickery, and in my eyes, along with thousands of other people, it's just flat out entrapment I couldn't be more angry and disgusted with your company. Same story as so many others. I signed up for a race & was then charged $69.95 for a membership. Sneaky business practices. I tried calling but could not get through to anyone, so I emailed them. After 5 business days, I had heard nothing, so I started calling again. I was told emails are "handled by another country". I was then assured that my account would be credited, yet 1 week later, there was still no credit. I called again, and was told there was no credit requested. I have finally received my refund. As has been pointed out - if you don't pay attention, you find that your credit card gets charged quickly, and you can't take it back. It's deceptive, and they make it quite clear that they won't help you. If it happens to you, plan on spending time writing letters to provide the paper trail so that you can force a refund through your credit card company. What a pain.
