The space is calm quiet clean and relaxing but the best part for me is definitely Sarah's treatments. As others have written, she takes the time to listen to your issues, ask you further/clarifying questions and offer a treatment plan. She also consistently follows up on (and is open to revising) that plan - keeping records of your past issues, treatments and feedback (ie. How did you feel after we did these points?). Also, as a queer masc-leaning dyke, body work can be a rotten experience. Sarah has only ever been awesome. No weird assumptions or comments, and all the consent-practices you could hope for. I've recommended Sarah to several friends and when she's not available, I've heard that her colleagues are also excellent.

I was seeking out an acupuncturist to help me with sleep, lower back pain, digestion issues, and TMJ. Maria is so intuitive, knowledgeable, and kind. While I am so excited to get back home to Texas, I am sad to leave Maria and Acupuncture Center of Toronto. It's truly a place of healing!

Huiguang Chen is R.TCMP/R.Ac (Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner and…read moreAcupuncturist). This narrow storefront is almost hidden next to the bustle of the supermarket next door. Chinese herbs (both in original natural form to be taken home and decocted, and in pill form) are available at the counter on a walk-in basis. Acupuncture is better scheduled with a phone call in advance. I called over on a Wednesday morning, and was given a slot in that afternoon. The consultation area is in the back of the store, with a desk wedged into a compact space. The usual three-finger measure of pulse was taken (right hand on pillow, left hand on pillow), and ailments described in English were recorded in Chinese script. There seems to be two separate treatment beds, where each patient can lie down on his or her stomach, to have the needles applied (in the back, legs, neck and read). Electro-stimulation was applied for 20 minutes (and I dozed with the immediate relief). On this visit, I was prescribed herbs in pill form, rather than being given herbs to decoct (boil) at home. On request, Chen issued me a receipt with letterhead of The Canadian Society of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, presumably acceptable to my extended healthcare provider for reimbursement. The herb pills are not reimburseable, but they're a nominal cost. Payment is by cash only, with a bank on the corner if you forget. From 2005-2012, I had been going cross-town (to Dupont Street) to a senior TCM practitioner, with whom I have been very satisfied. Since I live on the east side, going locally saves me the crosstown commute. My treatment by Chen was as professional and competent as I have had with others in the past.

He does acupuncture, and can also diagnose and prescribe you traditional chinese medicine that you take home and boil. He has helped me so much. You can drop in for traditional chinese medicine, but acupuncture requires appointment. His hours are a little unique and it has always caused me confusion, so I am doing a public service here. He is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, and open 10:30-6 otherwise. They both go to lunch from 1-2pm.

I was having serious stomach problems because of my gluten intolerance and Lindsey White cleaned up my diet, helped me balance my PH levels so I wasn't so acidic, and worked with me to figure out how best to treat my issue. My doctor couldn't figure out what was wrong with me, but Lindsey had me feeling much better in weeks. It's worth noting that the staff here are super supportive of LGBT folks. I'm trans and they treat me with amazing respect and care. My pronouns and chosen name are always used, even though I haven't yet changed my legal name. it's a very trans-affirming place. If you have a benefits plan that will only cover naturopathy, but not acupuncture and you find acupuncture helpful, the practitioners will often just bill you for a naturopathy session so you can get the treatment covered through your plan. ACCESSIBILITY: There's steps up to the building Mahaya is located in. The building has an elevator and the washroom is on the same floor as the clinic.

I'm positive that this is one of the very best things you can do for yourself. No doubt that the reward for pain ratio is 1:1 because it's unquestionably good for you and without question the most painful thing I've ever experienced. (Yes, there's no partition, all massages happen in one big room.) The staff wears professional looking white uniforms. At the waiting area, pictures of therapists lined the wall, and customers are requested to change into slippers. The girl at the reception area was very nice too, spent time listening to my husband describing his ailment and recommended a therapist for him. My husband gets a tuina (masseurs are mostly Chinese with a couple of Caucasians) and I got a Thai massage. Curiously, all the Thai masseuses come from Japan. I heard them chatting in native Japanese while I changed into my Thai clothes before the massage. Is Thai massage that popular in Japan that they have an oversupply of masseuses? Why didn't they import Thai masseuses to do the job for less? Why aren't the Japanese doing shiatsu? Wish I know the answers! Unfortunately, this place fails at what counts the most: the quality of the massage. No, it's not bad, the therapists didn't talk on the phone and didn't hurt me. But the experience was a big meh. I didn't walk out feeling more relaxed or lighter on my feet, let alone sleep deeper that night or walking up refreshed the next day (which happens with a good massage). Despite intake form and reminder, the masseuse did not do extra work on problematic parts. My husband was not happy with his tuina either. At $85 (for the "better" tuina master) and $70 for my Thai, it's not expensive but I didn't feel it was money well spent either. Too bad, so wish to like this place.
