The boat is pretty luxurious, well maintained and very clean. Within five minutes of launching, we saw a bear, bald eagles and then sea lions. Later in the Broken Islands, we saw a couple of whales, harbor seals and lots of marine birds. I highly recommend taking this cruise, we saw so many things that we would never have seen if we didn't venture out into the waters of Barkley Sound.

It was the shortest tour and within that time we saw harbour seals, a black bear and a raft of sea otters. The tour guide said his boat was the fastest in the fleet so we seemed to get to places quite quickly. The guide warned us we may not see black bears because they hadn't seen many. But then he heard where there was one and after fifteen or so minutes we got to the black bear. And like every tour we were respectfully far away from the black bear. I've attached a photo of the bear and it's at 30x zoom. For the harbor seals we were closer and even closer to the raft of sea otters, which was the highlight of the tour. I know that the black bear is supposed to be the highlight but I would rather see animals closer and it appeared that sea otters were not as skittish. As for equipment, this tour started at the nicest office though you have to pay for parking. The flotation suits looked quite new and very clean. This tour's boat was the most comfortable and easiest for viewing all around. Only one binocular was supplied for the whole tour to share so I was glad we brought our own. The whole tour cost almost $500 CAD. It's questionable whether it was worth it to see a black bear far away for twenty minutes, some harbor seals for a few minutes and a raft of sea otters for fifteen minutes. But I am glad we did it.

We were happy just to get out on the water and explore, but were lucky enough to witness a wealth of beautiful sea creatures. We saw humpback whales, then a playful pod of Harbour Popoise put on an amazing show. The grand finale was a pod of majestic orcas that I'll never forget. We went on a rainy cooler day and we had the best time. The boat ride alone was super fun and i had a perma smile the whole time. Zack took an incredible amount of time for our tour and gave us a personalized adventure.  We were also blessed to see whales, porpoise, urchins, starfish,  seals, sea lions. He knew all the places to go and gave such an amazing insight of the different islands and mountains. He also gave us snacks and beverages from locally sourced places. Literally we could not have asked for better and it was even more amazing than we could have imagined.  When we come back we will ONLY book here.

From…read morethe moment we walked on the dock, Captain Zach welcomed us on board, and made is feel comfortable and safe, he even had a scavenger hunt game prepared for our toddler! Once we were on our way, the learning began! Did you know that oysters are one of the most sustainable forms of aquaculture? Or that one little oyster filters a bathtub of water per day, keeping our oceans clean, pristine, fresh and beautiful? We learned so many incredible facts about his family oyster farm, the innovation they are adding to the industry, oysters as a species and the local aquaculture. The boat has both inside cabin space and outside deck space, making it great to enjoy the sea breeze and spray, but also shade from the hot sun. Captain Zach has an incredibly deep knowledge of the Discovery Islands and Desolation Sound, pointing out mountains, islands, bays and even rock formations, and added a depth of history to everything he shared. His passion to share this area of Vancouver Island is contagious! We saw a pod of dolphins, sea lions, eagles, all sorts of waterfowl. At no moment did we feel rushed, it was a beautiful leisurely day on the water - that also kept at 3 year old happy and engaged all day - and ended with the a delicious feast of oysters. We all had a blast and can't wait to be back.

We opted to order sandwich and sushi platters from Thriftys to be delivered to the boat before we arrived. Turned out well, the staff kept them chilled for us and we all met on the dock before taking off. Great drinks (can't bring your own), but the Captain's "Purple Slurpee" is amazing! Reasonable prices, cheaper than most bars. Bring your own music! CDs are your best bet. I made 3 and had them on rotation for the 3 hour party cruise. Can't wait to go again!

Provide a company could provide the essentials, the experience is already going to be great. However, Pedals and Paddles don't simple rest on the fact that they're situated at a great spot. They provided excellent service by quickly replying to my phone call, providing flexibility, offering things at no extra cost such as crocks (so as not to get your own footwear wet), among other things. Lots of equipment available and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had limited time in our day to return to the ferry and they even charged a half hour rate rather than a full hour which I don't think many others would do.

We were informed…read morethat bear tours are usually in the morning due to the bears hunting for food under rocks during the low tide. Marek our captain was very informative and was great at taking us to various places to look for bears. We saw about 8 bears and 1 cub during our ~2 hour excursion. Check in was 30 mins prior to departure and they also have a washroom and jackets for you if you need an extra layer (it does get very windy and cold! So bundle up!) Overall an amazing adventure!
