This school cares most is making money. I didn't see this till COVID hits. I believe they already got lots of small business relief money from government but they still try their best to scrub every penny from parents. Most other schools refunded half tuition or all when they turned to virtual classes. Acorn on crow canyon did not return any tuition or deposit for the days they did not even provide service. They claimed they will turn these to credits but when parents start returning these kids back, school said credits are expired. I know several parents tried very hard to argue with school and the tricky school said credits only applies if you come back now, so really they just want to make more money from you. They owe parents money but eventually they push parents to a hard state that they have no choice unless you want to waste half month tuition and your deposits. I reported them to BBB. I am disappointed that the school has no response. Keeping tuition without providing service is unlawful, I am sure if I sue them to court, they will loose. For this small case, not worth me the money and energy for it. The school director kept asking me to sending my son my back, I rather waste my money, I won't have him go to Acorn anymore. Reason is simple, for a educational institution, if financial is #1, your kids will hardly end up with a good environment there. I can easily imagine if the school director has to decide to hire either a good caring experienced teacher but higher salary, or a bad tempered baby sitter with low salary, she will pick the latter. I recall one morning I dropped off my kid at school backyard, a white around 50 year old teacher (I don't remember her name) was scolding a little girl (around 3 year old) so strong and so loud for at least continuously 3mins long! She was stunned and just stood there like a stone till her face turned almost pale. There were other kids in the yard, no one dared to talk to her after that, they all walked around her. And she was still standing there after that mean old woman left. The other teachers were there too but no one trying to stop or comfort the little girl afterwards, everyone was just staring at the woman scolding the little girl. I remember that moment I was telling myself thanks god she is not my kid's class teacher. But after the COVID situation, I totally realized the true side of this school and their philosophy- making money. I hope none of the parents have to experience this again. read more

This is a lovely place with nice and patient teachers and staff. We moved to San Ramon earlier this year. After certain school tours and family discussions (between parents and kid), Acorn was the choice by unanimous vote. This is my girl's second school. I was a bit worry that she might need some times to adjust. She didn't. The trial classes (1 hr each) before the actual start might help. The first day she attended school, she had no problem waving goodbye to me after a hug and a kiss. When we went pick her up later the day at around 4pm, she was enjoying the outside time so much that we had to leave first and get back later. Now that she's been attending Acorn for almost a month, we can tell she really likes the school. She said she's a bit scared of Ms. Dolores, her class teacher, yet she always wanna share with Ms. Dolores things happened in her daily life. Last Friday morning, she said she wanna go to school early to play with her friends. She told us a lot about her school life, like showing us yoga postures, chanting the Acorn bucket filler rhyme, talking about teachers in other classes, talking about the arguments between herself and other bunnies (and that they went tell teachers finally, haha). Every morning, we enjoy 2 minutes on the grass (now the autumn leaves) under the tree at the school entrance. I look forward to many more such moments to come. I hope she'll grow and thrive in Acorn. read more

Acorn Learning Center - Child Care & Day Care Near Me - San Ramon, California

We visited quite a few preschools when we were ready to transition our 2 year old son last year from a licensed home day care. Like most parents, we considered the school's location, first impression of what we've seen on our visit (classroom setting, teachers/staff credentials and background checks, teacher/student ratio, playground structure, teaching programs, and cleanliness), and industry standard costs for the area. Acorn Crow Canyon checked everything on our "must have" list. Our son started his Acorn journey in the 2 year old class with Ms. Kathy, Ms. Laura, and afternoon teacher Ms. Jenny. Each one were equally great! We immediately took great comfort in feeling like our son may have found his second home. In the beginning, he was initially shy as he was accustomed to a smaller school setting (his home daycare had 12 kids and 4 babies including himself). Eventually, he started to blossom into a social butterfly. He would come home with his artwork and his pincher grasp improved. We also saw some other skill sets improved. He is now in the 3 year old class with Ms. Dolores and Ms. Rupali, and they are also impressive! Ms. Rupali has the kids' well being in mind. Ms. Dolores does, too, but we think she is primarily assigned our son and she takes her time with our son's potty training. He especially loves it when he and Ms. Dolores makes beaded necklaces (he proudly tells us that he and Ms. Dolores made his "beautiful" necklace). Both teachers teach the children to count, recognize their letters (completely different from learning their Alphabet song), apply their social skills better, expand their knowledge of words, etc. In addition to the aforementioned, there are other exceptional staff at the preschool. Take for example Ms. Carolyn and Ms. Tami (4 year old teachers who are absolutely exceptional! Our son can't wait to be in their class in the Fall). Of note, Ms. Tami and our son have a very close relationship. They dote on each other. Her granddaughter is enrolled in the preschool as well and she calls her "Ma"... so our son started calling Ms. Tami "Ma" and he is the only student allowed to call her that besides her granddaughter. Worth mentioning: Ms. Carolyn is a firm teacher, yet genuinely loving. In this class, the students are gently taught to read, work some more on their math (addition and subtraction), etc. Needless to say, one of the class' primary objectives is to help prepare the children to Kindergarten if the children don't enroll in TK. There's also Ms. Ledic (TK class that we plan to enroll our son in, and we believe Ms. Ledic is looking forward to having our son in her class as well after speaking to her one day). We know our son will learn a lot from her class, and she will help prepare him for Kindergarten. This class builds up on what the children learned from the 4 year old class. In this class, the students are actually assigned homework, which is key to their transition when they get promoted to Kindergarten. We also love the other staff (e.g., Ms. G, Ms. Alene, Ms. Kat, and Ms. Jessica to name a few). Lastly, Ms. Karen (Education Director) is nothing but caring to all the kids and looks out for their best interests. The school's hours are from 7AM - 6PM, and in general, we believe each student's assigned class is from 8:30AM - 4:30PM. During non-class hours, the children consisting of all ages are mixed in and can interact with one another for some play and story time fun. That's pretty cool because it gives the children the option to have mixed age friends. The school offers (at an added cost) pizza with applesauce or yogurt and juice once a week for lunch. Also at an added cost, background checked third party vendors are brought in weekly for soccer, gymnastics, and music sessions. Included in the tuition are Spanish, science and/or STEM, and music teachers (not provided on a weekly basis). Overall, as long as our son is happy, we're happy. And we know for a fact that Acorn Crow Canyon makes him happy. He is in a clean, loving, and professional place with plenty of friends consisting of mixed ages and ethnic backgrounds, and teachers who cares and truly believes in teaching the children. It is my 2 year old daughter's third week in Acorn Learning Center, and I canNOT thank her teachers enough... My daughter has been with me for the past entire two years! At first she was ok going to school, but once she realized that I will not be there with her she started screaming and crying as soon as I hit the school's parking lot. I was afraid the teacher might get impatient with her because she is truly a loud screamer. However, Miss Kathy and Miss Lora were everything but impatient. Miss Kathy made sure to send me a text with picture to let me know my baby DID stop crying once I left the room ( there was time stamp in the message so I would know). As for Miss Lora, she helped me to go through this process a lot: she made sure to ask me how I was feeling every time she got a chance, and after learning that I was extremely sad because I felt like I was abandoning my daughter while she cries, she had such nice and long talk with me to let me know everything would be ok, my daughter just needed time to adjust! Miss Kathy and Miss Lora are both the kindest people that I have ever met, and the way they care for the children made me very comfortable leaving my screaming two year old with them! I saw some negative review indicating that this preschool center is just a baby sitter for children to play, and I would like to say that we LOVE this place because they DO have projects throughout school days and as Miss Lora mentioned to me that their philosophy is to have the children learn how to social first beads they will have their entire lives to learn about academic curriculum! I cannot agree more on that! I have recommended this center to all of my friends and totally love it! P.S. starting yesterday my daughter did NOT want to come home with me which is a good sign! Love this Acorn school and campus. We moved here form GA and had to find a center that could accommodate our 3 & 4 year old boys quickly. The Acorn Learning Center on Crow Canyon is perfect for us. The full time hours 7a-6p are great as they allow for early (enough) mornings and just enough time that I can work a full day and have confidence that my kids are engaged the whole day. Oh! And they are a screen-free school which I really love. All education is interactive and electronics-free (except for a microscope for science and iPod/CD player for music). We have been in three of the classes 3y/o Honeybears, 4 y/o Dinos (2x), and TK Frogs (2x) and all of them have been wonderful. The school is set up to engage with the children throughout the day and offers nap time, music, Spanish lessons, soccer (on site for extra charge), and special on site programs that my boys love! The grounds are clean and well kept, and offer the children the additional opportunity to engage and appreciate nature due to the vast open space behind the center - a rare thing in this area with all of the housing and commercial buildup here. Additionally, the tuition here is affordable when compared to other sites. I find it a huge value for the money spent. My older son was in the Frogs (TK) class last year and entered Kindergarten in Dublin this year. He was more than prepared for his kindergarten assessment and has had no trouble grasping the curriculum in K. Not only do the children prepare academically, but they are taught responsibility, teamwork, and empathy. As our younger son comes to the end of his Frog year, we will have to say goodbye to this school, only because of aging into K. If you want a school for your child who is 2-5 y/o that they will love to come to, choose Acorn on Crow Canyon. You'll have to pack a lunch and dump sand from their shoes but that little effort is worth the confidence and comfort that they are having a great time! read more

Great school and great people. My daughter started going there when she was 3 as a preschooler. We were new to the country, English is not her native language, first time to go to school and be out of home without parents. It was a big change for her, as well as for us but I can say that this school was the biggest factor for our smooth transition. Although we've visited different schools with newer facilities but this school exceeded our expectation in all aspects: Caring, Quality of Curriculum, safety, and everything! It wasn't close to where I live or work but I was ready to take the extra 20 minutes commute on my way to/from work just because my daughter's noted progress and was happy there. I seconded the below review, everyone in this school works together as a team and they seem happy working there. This tells us something about what kind of environment your beloved ones will be spending part of their day in. Ms Karen, Ms Nancy, and other management were very professional and we always felt whenever we drop our daughter that she's in safe hands. Ms Jenevieve, Ms Tammy, Ms. Terry, and honestly every teacher there were very professional and caring. My daughter loves them so much that she's still bringing up their names even though we sadly moved to a different state. Ms Jenevieve's style in teaching preschoolers is excellent. We liked how she managed the transition for our daughter in her first couple months. She even requested for a list of important words in our mother language just to help understanding the kid in urgent situations. The level of care and learning accompanied with fun that my daughter had in this school made her even asking us why she can't go to school in weekends. She actually cried whenever she knew that she won't be going to school in some days when she fell sick. When we moved to a different state, my daughter's level of competencies exceeds her peers who were just starting to learn things in pre-KG and KG that she already learned while in preschool in Acorn. Ms Karen from management is the best, she's very kind and caring. Our experience with her as parents was excellent and having her in this school made it easier transition to us as she was very understanding and did her best to assure that we're having the best experience while in San Ramon. My older son went to this Acorn for 3 years and my 4 year old has now been attending for 2 1/2 years. I love this school. The teachers are great, the owner and director are wonderful and the atmosphere is exactly what you hope for in a pre-school/daycare. I never worry about my son when he is there and have never had a bad experience. The rooms are large, fun and clean and the outside play area is one of the best I have seen. This a very good pre-school with awesome and caring teachers. I still remember the first day I picked my then 3 year old kid ( first time in preschool setting) and was very nervous because she cried a lot. But Ms.Karen assured me to give couple weeks to get adjusted with new school. Slowly by end of week I got a picture from school with big a smile on her face! Her then class teachers Ms. Rupali/ Ms.Dolores has been amazing and soon she started enjoying the class. This school also has a music class which my daughter loved. So happy I enrolled my daughter here. She started at 2 years in the summer program and is now in the bunnies class. She absolutely loves her class, her teachers and her friends. It is so helpful their hours are 7 am - 6 pm especially for the working parents. I also love getting the updates daily on what my daughter learned that day. The reason i withdraw my son from Acorn at 5075 Crow Canyon rd school's preschool program is mainly for the security reason. 1-The security code is common among parents. Not sure if it is ever changed. I got the code before the school started. 2-When the lock is broken, people access into the facility, and no one at the office care to be present at the door. 3-When you access the facility, an office personnel which i never met before, never bother to care if i pick up my child or for something else. I would never recommend anyone for this facility. It is a careless facility personnel. read more

I've toured many centers and so far, I like this center the most. The teachers are very welcoming and warm. People who are worried about making their 3 year old a boring bookworm should not go here. This place is well rounded with learning centered in play. Please keep in mind that your first 5 years of life, life in itself is a learning experience. Kids learning their boundaries, social skills, manners, sensory skills... This is important because many parents are too concerned about making their kids the next computer. If you allow kids to be kids and let them learn while being a kid, this is the place. There is plenty of learning experiences but it is not forced upon the kids, as it should not be creating learning as a negative experience. Here are the things I LOVE that made me pick this place: - Daily small updates on what your child did including snacks, lunch, play, learning, and nap. A little daily update. - Yearly progress folders showing your kid's progression of their learning and perception advancement. - Optional activities you can enroll your child in. - every person there knows the names of both my kids (in different classes) and my 6year old who doesn't even go there. Dislikes: - They do nickel and dime you for enrollment fees and application fees. Parents who notice that their kids are just playing when they pick them up, did you ever think about the fact you can't teach kids all day. The end of the day is when pick up time is so kids should be allows just to play. Just a thought since I think this place is great for its price range. read more

Very bad management. absolute baby sitter...Pathetic!

I can only speak from my experience with Acorn at Crow Canyon. Our first visit gave me a good impression because of what happened at the time. One student misbehaved and had a timeout. The teacher had patience and seemed to know how to comfort him. He eventually rejoined the group in 5-10 minutes. Now, my child has been with this school for two months. We can see his improvement and he becomes quite attached to his class teacher, Ms Gilda. His teacher really takes good care of him and we can see that from the observation windows. In addition, I call them to check on my son few days per week for 2 months and they are quite patient to tell me in details how my child is doing. I know I have been a pest calling them so often for few weeks because my child has some difficulty to adjust for school. Hopefully, they will keep up the good work and my child will shine on both social and academic skills. One last thing I really like is their open house/night and you have the chance to talk to the teachers about your child's progress. Yes. My child knows all alphabets from A-Z, numbers 1-10, colors, shapes... fireman, policeman,... See some complaints in yelp about Acorn at Doughtery. Never expected this school to be like that. Asked the kid to leave the school without any notice. Refund was also not quite satisfactory. I had so much hopes on this school That I never considered any other school as a second thought . Even when friends warned just went and joined my kid blindly there. Parents, BEWARE OF THE CONTRACTS! It makes me sad to write this review as the teachers are wonderful, loving, nurturing people. They care so much for the children and that is the only reason my review received 2 stars. The ownership is far off from their teachers. They do not honor their word and ultimately cost me over $1300 that I was unable to recoup. The owner is related to a lawyer and therefore has drafted up a contract that it virtually unable to cancel. When the San Ramon school district was determining whether or not to start the Transitional Kindergarten program two years ago, I was left in a tough spot. My current child care center was not taking TK kids, yet they had pre-K and K covered. I needed a landing spot for my child if the TK program did not get approved. We debated over waiting until June to see if the program would get accepted and potentially not having a spot for our daughter if the program was turned down. I registered our daughter for the Acorn Learning Center on Crow Canyon over 8 months in advance since a lot of their current students would continue to the pre-k program the following August. I confirmed with the with front desk and book keeper that if I needed to withdraw her, I could do so up to 4 weeks ahead of time with a written note without any penalty. When the San Ramon school district finally decided to start the TK program, I immediately wrote an email canceling my daughters registration. Much to my surprise, the director responded that she could not refund my $1367.50. That's quite a bit of money to walk away from. Needless to say, I would not recommend this facility to anyone that doesn't want to potentially lose out on money. They had over 4 months notice that my daughter would not be joining the school in the fall and they still would not reimburse me. READ the fine print. read more

My child went here for over a year and a half before starting kindergarten. I was very happy with the school, teachers and administration. I feel that they had a great balance between learning and playing. We loved the size of the yard outside. I always felt my child was well taken care of. We have now been in public school for two years and last night at bed time they asked if they could go back and visit that they missed the teachers !
