I really only come visit for seltzer and maybe soda. So I can't really comment on their produce. I'm back for the drink section. It's always fully stocked and well organized. They always have what I want and it's usually a pretty good price, especially if you're getting the acme brand. I also always use self checkout so I can't comment on the service but for the most part if you come early in the morning, there's no line and it's not crowded at all. But if you do decide to check out the register, be prepared to wait because they're usually is in line as there's only one cashier. This is acme is a little smaller, but you'll find most of the basic items that you need for making a delicious meal. read more

I stopped into this Acme when I urgently needed a few staples. The fresh food wasn't the best, but the packaged food was fine. The store is noticeably cramped and very worn down. It feels more like an older corner market than a modern grocery store. If I wasn't in a hurry, I'd try to go to any other supermarket and/or even another Acme. read more

I arrived here in the morning to get a couple of things. An employee greeted me and said "Do you need help finding anything?" That was nice. They had a good small selection of low sugar cereal and granola products. I was able to choose two greeting cards that I needed. But, why did I rate this store so low? No line was open with a clerk! I had to choose a self-checkout line. North Wilmington is quite full of very elderly people. This was shocking to me that they expected all people to go to a self checkout line. I am not elderly, but I forgot my reading glasses. Luckily, I was able to find the UPC code and scan all of my groceries. read more

As much as I love to eat out and Yelp about it, I also love to cook. I live in an area of Wilmington that is right off of 202 which is fantastic as far as supermarkets go because you have your pick- Acme, Giant and Shoprite. Cross over into Pa and you've got Whole Foods and that Mecca of all supermarkets, Wegman's. All in that order. So if I need to get in and out for a few things I'll usually stop at this Acme. It is a very small supermarket ( I think 10 aisles total ) and I have found that some of their items can be much higher than prices at the other stores. However, their produce is always top notch if not limited and they have fantastic prices on seafood. Which brings me to the point of this review. This evening I had mussels and clams on my mind so along with some other Friday night snacks I stop over at the seafood counter an ogle the goods. I wind up getting some crab legs, not on sale but far less than I would pay at one of my fave seafood joints. No mussels today but I see I sign saying the little neck clams were 4.99 each! Wow!! And then womp, womp. Upon closer inspection by me, another customer and the fishmonger we discover the sign is full of errors. See below. The sign says 6ive little necks 12 count 4.99 each. Problem is the little necks are in bags of 50 count. Next to them are cherry stones sold as singles and nothing in the case is 12 count. After 15 minutes of debating back and forth the other customer gives up and walks away after being told the clams in question are actually 12.99 a bag. I persevere and stand by the "stand by your advertisement" creed. All this girl wants to know is if you are going to honor the sign or not and true to their awesome customer service they did and for that I thank them. read more

The aisles are really narrow. If you need the handicapped electric cart it is not in a convenient spot. In order to get to the electric cart you have to walk in the entrance and then walk around past the cash registers near the exit door. They don't really plug in the carts so if you get there later in the day chances are that the cart won't run. The aisles are really too narrow for the electric cart, and there are displays on many of the aisles making it difficult to reach things from the handicapped cart. I have gone here on 3 consecutive senior discount days but there is always something wrong with the card that the cashier has to use in order to provide said discount. In all, this store is not very handicapped friendly. read more

This particular Acme is very small and most of the time, overcrowded. It's good in a pinch though, as it's in a convenient area. The best time to go? 7 am during the week. Place is a ghost town! I am convinced that most chain grocery stores are pricey, but sometimes you can get some good deals at Acme. Like most stores, you just have to pay attention to those circulars! read more

Much like the near-by Acme Supermarket which has abysmal reviews, this location unfortunately is not much better. Cramped aisles, typically cluttered with askew items on shelves and special promotional displays making the small, cramped aisles even more difficult to navigate. The staff here is slightly more friendly than their near-by sister store but are often hard to find when a shopper needs help. On one recent visit on a not-so-busy Sunday afternoon, we waited several minutes for the meat market guy to finish speaking with a female shopper, an obvious personal friend. As we stood there and waited to ask a question, he went on and on, never acknowledging us. We walked away, got some other items, came back; he was still talking, NEVER ONCE asking if he could help us. Yep, this is pretty much the norm for these Acme markets. Bakery area is often cluttered and not presenting a very clean image. Stay away from these stores. They're all low-rent and the parent company is clearly uninterested in making them any better. read more

When walking in the front door you feel time you are in a time machine going back in time. This place is a dump. Corporate must have forgotten they own this store. This store offers your normal grocery fare. My biggest complaint is they do not sell alcohol. NOTHING! No beer. No wine. No liquor. Luckily there is a liquor store within walking distance. Corporate needs to realize what a dump this place is and invest in some new decor. read more

I come here for one reason and one reason only: because the location is near the home of a dear friend of mine and I am compelled to bring something for dinner when I invite myself over. Otherwise, I would never shop here. I am puzzled as to why Acme's corporate office has allowed this location to slip by their renovation program. It has a dated feel about it -- from the exterior facade to the narrow isles to the anemic produce section. I tend to feel vaguely claustrophobic while walking the aisles -- I feel compelled to get in and get out as soon as possible. Which is good, because there is nothing worth lingering over in this store. I know Acme is capable of creating pleasant shopping experiences. I'm disappointed that they allow this store to languish. read more

The store was moderately rowded on a Friday morning and yet there were only two checkout registers open so I waited for nearly a half an hour....and had to ask the manager to exchange my melted ice cream so they wouldn't liquify completely...he made an excuse there were many sickness-related absentee employees. So I then asked if he was hiring and he said,"yes, but only for weekends". That certainly couldn't have improved the bad experience at checkout on a weekday! I don't care about the dated decor since I only come here out of shear convenience to my jobsite. That being said, selection leaves much to be desired in the sections I most commonly peruse - salad bar for lunch and household items (cleaning products, paper products, hygiene) that I can leave in the car for a few hours without any concerns. I'll continue to frequent this location as long as I'm working at my current location (hard to ignore the benefit of not paying the Philly markup, either), but I won't be grinning from ear to ear. Not that I normally grin from ear to ear when picking up shampoo. read more

I've been to a grocery store in all of the lower 48 states and 17 different countries. This is the worst one I have stepped into yet. The staff is beyond rude. We're talking agitated and annoyed at all times. AND it's ridiculously overpriced. We drive well out of the way to PA to get groceries anymore despite living next door to this place. read more

This place is the absolute worst. I hate it. I go because it's close to my house, but I'll just have to suck it up and go elsewhere. It's my own fault for continuing to go. I could tell about a million stories of how ridiculous this place is, but I'll just go with today. Firstly, they only ever have 1 or 2 registers open & it's a small store so when there are so many people in line it crowds the entire front of the store & you literally have nowhere to stand that's not in the way. So once I finally get to the front- the kid behind the register is simultaneously talking on his phone and talking to another kid who I can't even tell if it's an employee or just a friend standing there hanging out.. either way, I'm sitting there waiting for him to finish ringing up the old man in front of me and he just stops ringing stuff up and continues talking on his phone. There's 10 people in line behind us and he's doing nothing but talking on his phone. The old man, whose bagging his own groceries because anyone else doing it there is just simply not a thing, is just staring at him wondering what is happening. So when he felt like it, he finally finishes ringing the man up. The old guy finishes bagging his own groceries, pays & walks out. My turn. He starts ringing my stuff up, and the guy who I mentioned before- the one I can't tell if he's an employee or not- is standing in front of the bagging section. Not bagging. Just standing there. texting. So you're not here to bag but you're also gonna stand in the way so I can't bag either?! So after having to ask him to move, I start bagging.. dude behind the register STILL talking on the phone... I finish. Pay. He says nothing. I grabbed my own receipt because it was just sitting there printed and he wasn't grabbing it. I walk out, and the old man that had been in front of me asked if he'd left anything behind.. he was confused and frazzled because he was bagging everything himself and felt rushed because there's a million people in line & also because the guy had just stopped ringing up his stuff about midway thru for no reason. But he couldn't ask the employee if he'd gotten all his things, because the employee was on the phone & god forbid he be interrupted to do his job. Can't have that. And you just have to sit there and take it because if you expect people to do the ABSOLUTE BARE MINIMUM these days, you're asking way too much. Oh and if they're not on the phone, they're complaining about having to actually do their job. In front of customers. Sitting there whining about so many people in line. One time a girl was throwing a fit & slammed my eggs in the bag so hard they broke- then told me she took them off the bill. But she didn't. So I had to go back and stand in customer service line for 10 minutes until the rude woman behind the desk refunded me... This store truly is just the worst. The employees just can not be bothered. Oh but before I go- there is one older gentleman that works the register. He's very kind. Does a great job. I wish I could only deal with him every time. I realize people have off days, etc. but this is not that. I've been going here a long time. It's ALWAYS like this. They just simply don't care to even be a moderately decent employee. I normally go to this Acme for convenience reasons with the hectic family and work schedule I hold. There hasn't been ONE time that I have gone to this Acme that I didn't have a "run in" with someone working there. One time, the manager (balding man) watched me as I checked my FULL grocery cart out in the self-checkout because there were no aisles open. He texted on his phone at the end of the self-checkout where the worker stands to over-ride items and enter coupons. An African American young lady did the same on a trip before to me. They NEVER, ever ask for my Acme card (and I was told yesterday and they were phasing out the card as of now), so there were times that I had forgotten to give it in the hustle and bustle of screaming children that I over-paid for my groceries (my fault mostly, but I thought they were supposed to ask). I showed up at the deli 5 minutes before the posted closing time once and the short-haired deli worker rolled her eyes and said "hrmphhhhhh" - what do you NEED??!! Yesterday, a younger African American girl waited on me at the deli and slipped some of the cheese that fell from my order into her mouth between getting my cheese and meat - with gloves on - and continued to use the same hands and gloves to gather my meat from the slicer!!!! Really! Last week at the deli, an older gentleman and an older lady were working behind the deli and neither acknowledged that I was waiting there, even though they saw me, and proceeded with their conversation about cashing in on bonus points through some mail order point site. I waited for 3 minutes while they finished their side conversation. I went into the store once late at night - 30 minutes before closing - and was nearly run over by the floor waxing guy three times in the dairy section and then had to skate my way over newly waxed surfaces. He literally ran the machine in front of my face without saying "excuse me" while I was shopping! I have called to talk to the manager (why bother, he too blatantly ignores me), but to no satisfaction. They continue to provide lousy customer service! read more

Much improved since the last corporate upheaval. I will actually buy meat there now - I would not have done so two years ago. Staff is pretty friendly to - a number of them speak to their customers, especially in the produce area. Now if they would just improve the width of the aisles and stop wasting shelf space on stuff you can get at the drug store... read more

I agree with the other reviewers. This Acme location leaves a lot to be desired. It is very dated looking and is in desperate need of a facelift. That being said, I have found some good deals here and enjoyed the amount of groceries I could get with little money. I go through periods of being on the "Acme train" and then switching to another grocery store. I like that Acme does a lot of register coupons. The more you shop there the more coupons print out with your receipt. They have a lot of "Buy this and get $X off your next order." If you pay attention to the circular and have those coupons you can really get a lot for your money. Some of the best deals I get are on bottled beverages (such as the Snapple Teas). I don't drink regular milk but I know they also do a milk promotion a lot where you "buy ____ and get a free gallon of milk." It isn't a perfect store but it is worth checking out the deals. Yes, that can get annoying to shop at more than one store and navigate the sales papers, but to some it is worth it. read more

Specifically I want to address the fish department . Lately there is never anyone there. There is no bell to let them know you are there. When you can find someone to get help for you, it means stopping someone from what they are trying to do and you can feel it. I've needed good seafood often of late to bring up the appetite of sick parents. The quality here is hit or miss. The hits have been fantastic. The first miss were mussels that had some sort of plastic actually ingested and stuck on the mussel itself. MORE THEN HAlF OF THE MUSSELS WERE DEAD. However the shrimp was fantastic that day. Went back for shrimp. There was a display of beautiful shrimp. I sawwhat I was getting coming from a supply in what I thought was a run off dish. It only took a bite to realize these were the left overs from an earlier batch. Soggy and mushy. Of course! Sometimes as a consumer we can be so distracted and un expecting. Guess they were glad to get rid of the older stuff on me. The scallops were fantastic. Shame is that with family with serious illness the luxury of time is not available. Quality is more important then ever . Service could be nice to BTW. If ur selling day old like fresh your selling deception . Sell the day old with a $$$$ of coupon like you would meat so consumer has a choice. read more
