The worst shop in Newtown area. There are a lot much better shops, for example Wegmans. the first is that price is higher than everywhere else. Constant "sales" may make you blind, when even with "sale" that they provide price is higher than anywhere else. Moreover workers don't care about their job, they are not doing their job, always with angry face. Furthermore their shopping carts are terrible. They have 2 kinds and they are very hard to ride. Let's face it...shopping is a chore. My favorite supermarket in Newtown is Acme. My one and only complaint is the deli. The gentlemen in the deli could benefit from a training refresher (the lady at the deli is the absolute best). I like the cleanliness, the store layout and the sales. I have always been a fan of a good bagel. Growing up in Trenton we had Kramers & Bagel Junction before it move to Newtown Pa. When I moved to Newtown Pa I was happy to find that Bagel Junction was here. Now I would never discount Manhattan Bagel- they were good for a chain outfit. I still search for a good bagel in Newtown and believe it or not the Acme in Newtown has bagels that are as good if not better than some so called bagel places. I will never buy meat here again! This is the second or third time recently I've spent hard earned money on NY strip steak and when I open the package it's BROWN! Pink on one side , brown on the other side-- a total rip off and waste of my money. Then when it happened tonight I called because I had enough.... I politely told the guy what happened, He said if I don't have my receipt he can't do anything about it... SERIOUSLY? I'd be more concerned that your meat is BROWN a and not holding temperature!!!! Well, all right! The new and improved Acme in The Village of Newtown requires a revisit to the old review. It is no longer the boring step sister box store of yesteryear. Now, not only has Starbucks taken up residence in the front of the store, but they have installed a beer and wine aisle and a small eating area near the deli department. Will the wonders never cease?! Even service seems to have moved up a notch. More friendly faces and helpful hands. Better trained cashiers and help desk personnel. The salad bar is definitely cleaner and better stocked than before, too. Yes. It is still an Acme and not a Wegmans, so let's keep perspective. Yet, the new Acme is far better than the old, and they deserve an "A" for effort. Prices are still very competitive for the area. They are really working to hold on to their old customers and attract new ones. These days I find myself thinking of stopping in their Starbucks, or grabbing a six pack rather than making a separate run to the local beer outlet. I am not a fan of generic mainstream supermarkets like Acme. In fact, I'll often drive out of my way to avoid them, just to be able to shop at better quality groceries like Whole Foods and Wegmans. Unfortunately, I don't always have the time to drive out to Jersey and in those cases I typically go to McCaffrey in Yardley and Newtown. Yesterday, since I was literally 10 seconds away, I decided to take a look at Acme. At first glance, I was not impressed. It looks and smells like every other supermarket I detest. However beyond appearances, the place is pretty serviceable. The produce, while pricey, was good quality. They were also surprising strong with organics. I picked some organic meat, milk, eggs, butter, and cheeses and the price wasn't that different from what I usually pay at Wegmans in Princeton. The selection wasn't nearly as good, but I was very happy to get what I got at a fair price. Big bonus too, Acme has a full service Starbucks. While I wouldn't make this my go to supermarket, I'll definitely keep Acme on my list when I need to shop locally. They're not half bad! read more

This is a pretty good grocery store... certainly the one that I come to the most often. They recently redid this place and the renovation is quite nice! They now how a Starbucks where you first walk in (on the right side). They also now serve wine and beer which has been a real game changer since before this, the only place to get wine was at the Newtown Liquor Store. They have some nice prepared foods. I usually get one of their rotisserie chickens when I come in and those are always delicious. I'll also get their sushi from time to time and it is not bad, although it is pretty pricey. Price wise, I would say that it is a little bit more expensive than Giant but less expensive than Wegmans. My favorite thing about this grocery store is that they participate in the monopoly game. Everyone makes fun of me for getting so into it, but it adds some fun to a generally boring errand and I enjoy it! read more

I've moved to the area in the last six months, and this store is a journey through the other side of the looking glass. The layout could've been designed by a three year old with a crayon. The aisles are crowded with additional products that make it impossible for two carts to pass one another other. Blind corners, and highly stacked product makes it impossible to see what's in an aisle until you already commit to waking down it; the signs that list it are obstructed by still more of the same product. The area in the center is full of impulse buy and seasonal bric-a-brac that envelops the space needed elsewhere. They stock a smaller variety of products than other stores, and you'll have great difficulty in finding what you need. Every trip here takes twenty minutes longer than it does at other grocery stores nearby. read more

Several visits today, and in the past, we came across really lousy customer service. All the cashiers should make eye contact, greet the customer, or say hello, and not use fowl language or abrasive gestures. I am all for giving people a chance, and finding help is tough. Icing is uneven, bumps and lumps everywhere, and chocolate is cracked all around the cake. Biggest mistake ever. This was the first and last time ever getting a cake here. Ridiculous... drove to this Acme to get beer and the beer section was closed off. The employees saw us standing there wondering why it was closed off, and ignored us. Finally, we had to ask what was going on, and they said it was closed for 30 minutes. The reasoning for them being closed? The clerk needed a lunch break. I always shop at this Acme and I have done the drive up and go delivery order today and I advise anyone that wants to do this for convenience, I'd advise not to!! They put everything in my car and when I got home I was missing food items. I called to inform them and they said I have to come back because they can't drop it off! That gave me out of date hotdog rolls so I brought them back to exchange for fresh rolls and the girl game me a hard time because they did not have anymore of that brand, I said I'll take any brand and she said she couldn't cause the store manager was not in! I shop at this location regularly for my family needs. In comparison to other ACME locations and as well other large competitors they are extremely overpriced. I did though continue to remain loyal as I enjoy the interaction with their employees (they are good people). On Sunday July 28, 2019 I visited to purchase a six pack of beer. Upon checkout I was told my license had expired, and I could not purchase the beer. My very good friend who was with me offered to purchase the beer and bring it home for me. The Cashier grabbed the beer and took it back up the aisle, saying " this is illegal!".."I know how this goes and it will not happen in Acme".. "This is illegal". Fast forward three days later, I return with "Renewed License Documentation" from Penn Dot, which legally makes the license a valid photo ID for 10 days. I attempt to by beer...same Cashier, same line of s@%t...this time a young "manager" steps in, and again, I rudely get told they will not sell me beer. I'm 52 years old, the individual that attempted to buy my beer the first time around is 57. At some point you would hope that common sense would prevail...not at ACME. Turns out that's ok though in the end as McCaffreys Market (next door to ACME) has a much more customer friendly and accommodating atmosphere. Pros include the bread bakery, and in general the place looks clean, illuminated and spacious. A decent range of choices, as well. Non-bakery food is meh, what you might have found acceptable 20 years ago. Sushi, from an independent vendor, varies from okay to once when it had tough, smelly fish that we had to discard. We quit going to Acme when neighboring McCaffrey's opened up. It's not that the packaged merchandise or prices are much different, but rather that the prepared food is better. An even bigger improvement is in McCaffrey's personnel, who are unfailingly friendly and helpful; at Acme, you don't know whether you'll get somebody worthwhile or something out of your worst nightmare. The two corporate cultures couldn't be much different. That said, our fave is Wegman's in Warrington -- hands down, the best in the area especially when supplemented by Trader Joe's in Abington/Princeton. Because all these something of a schlep, we usually wind up at McCaffrey's -- but, after 20 years, no longer at Acme. read more

This Acme does it right. The store is clean and well-lit. The bakery, deli, and prepared food items are scrumptious; I am ADDICTED to their challah bread! An extensive selection of sushi is available, including some more uncommon rolls and a selection of condiments, dumplings, and the venerable seaweed salad. The natural products aisle is extensive and well-stocked, including not only foods and drinks but a large array of cleaning products and paper goods. There's a big freezer case in that section, too. I was checking out with Sandy and asked her how I could get boxes because I was moving. She was so helpful and took me over to produce where Eric was unpacking salad and the two of them gave me boxes immediately and took my name so that I could come back and get apple boxes that were stronger and good for packing Went back on a Saturday and got the boxes and they are saving more for me. This place deserves 0 stars. A few weeks ago, I got into a discussion with a Manager from Acme about them not having sales during this Pandemic and the overpricing of some of their products. He tried to justify it by blaming the manufactures and claiming supply and demand. I understand all about supply and demand and any other time I would understand this, but not now. They claim to be your neighborhood supermarket but are screwing the people in the neighborhood. Yesterday was the last straw, 17 bucks for a nine pack of TP when they used to sell that pack for 11. If you ask me ACME not running sales and charging what I guess is MSRP on TP and other products may not technically be price gouging, but they dam sure are taking advantage of this Pandemic and overcharging for everything. I always come to this store for groceries and toiletries. It is very clean and excellent customer service. However I saw who is assuming the manager (Amy) treating her employees terribly and I was very uncomfortable witnessing this. I used to go to this place all the time, however one of the married male (prob in his 40's)cashiers made it so awkward and uncomfortable for me talking about a career in modeling for 15 minutes if not longer. It is company policy that employees need to wear masks according to the state mandate..which means wearing their mask correctly. The assistant manager has the strings cut on the bottom of his mask and therefore it is wide open under his mouth. I spoke to the district manager and was told they only need to cover their mouths and it doesn't need to be secured. As a result there are employees who have their masks open on the bottom. This is upsetting since one of the employees works behind the meat and fish counter and will pull his mask down to talk to other employees while behind the meat counter. All my requests have been ignored. I was told by corporate in malvern that its up to the district manager to make the mask rules. This is so unsafe...how is this okay with acme? read more

There's not many places where I can drink warm beer without bartenders thinking i'm a beat dad with a bad scratch off lottery addiction. I've even brought seedy hookers here and not one soul judged her for the dried blood under her nose and not one soul brought up her severe scoliosis. This is the worst grocery store. I have never, I repeat never, gotten produce that didn't rot within 24 hours. Prices aren't great, fish is sub par, the meat is beyond disgusting, and the employees. I am so disappointed in this store! This is not the 1st time I have shopped here to only find my produce being rotten and moldy! Tonight has really pushed me over the edge! First I bought a pack of raspberries only to open them and find them completely covered in mold at this point I called the store to notify them, the manager was very kind and said they had also noticed a problem and had literally just pulled them off the market was very apologetic and said we would be refunded. I was happy with that and let that slide until I opened a pack of sealed steak tomatoes only to flip them over and discover 3 out of the 4 were rotten and once again covered in mold! As I continued through my other produce items I open up the avocados that I purposely bought pretty soft because I was going to mash them to feed to my daughter only once again to find the insides rotten. I am so baffled to how a store can sell expired produce like this. I never in my life have written a bad review about any business, only because my family owns there own business and a lot of the times there are two sides to everything and some people are just really hard to please but I can't wrap my head around 3 of the items I purchased being covered in mold. As a former (high school student) employee who was abused by the low-life adult customer service reps who were just pissed off that they were lifers and we all moved on and went to college, I have some bitter thoughts about this place. Putting my high school job aside, though, this place is well stocked, has lots of good prepared food, a good floral department, a good bakery, etc. The salad bar was decent, too - my go-to on lunchbreak. I'm not going to say anything about the employees/check out experience because I am quite biased. Why are the scanners in all of the food stores not just Acme so ridiculously difficult to operate? I was told by one of the employees that they are so sensitive so if you double bag or change the weight of the scales it changes everything. You know what...the hell with the excuses. Make the scanners user friendly and how about reducing the prices for those of us that not only shop at the store but scan our items and check ourselves out. We're shopping and working there. I don't need to hear the excuses from the employee. Give us a break. Also, I couldn't even get the coffee I wanted at the Starbucks there.
