They are hostile and don't smile unless they are being sarcastic. If you want to have a HORRIBLE and argumentative time right before you take a very important exam....feel free to sign up here. Otherwise don't waste your money on pathetic people like them. They conduct a very invasive search like you're a criminal and are not fully equipped with the right computer accessories. Ghetto and Pathetic.

The entrance is a narrow hallway, and if you arrive when there's a long line, you may have to wait outside before signing in. There are two bathrooms, which seem to be adjacent to the testing room. Occasionally, you're able to hear the flush of the toilet as you're testing, but the box fans in the testing room drown out most of the noise. On one of the days I was there, one of the toilets was clogged. If you want to take a break or have a snack in between blocks, there are chairs that line the hallway/entrance but there's no formal area to take a break. Otherwise the testing days went smoothly, and the staff were professional. As I was leaving after my first day, one of the staff members advised me to arrive 45min before my test instead of 30min to beat the 7:30am rush.

Gilbert Company (known for originating the Erector Set) introduced their 'American Flyer' line of model trains just after World War II. The trains were very popular throughout the 1950s, but the rise of popularity with television sets and the death of company founder A.C. Gilbert created a decline in sales. The company was defunct by 1967. The Eli Whitney Museum has a large collection of old A.C. Gilbert products, including several American Flyer trains. Each year, the museum sets up a model railroad display from Thanksgiving to mid-January. Walter Zawalich is the museum's American Flyer Curator and he meticulously restores and maintains the trains and the display each year. I've been going to see the Holiday Train Display at the Museum since I was a young boy. My father used to collect American Flyer trains and we went to see the display often. I later introduced my wife to the tradition and now our two sons. In addition to the trains themselves, we love the attention to detail of the layout which resembles a miniature landscape of New Haven. You can continue to see the Holiday Train display on Saturdays and Sundays until January 14th and admission is FREE!

Raj, who runs the Trumbull and North Haven center is very easy to work with as well. I like that they offer support classes but also classes for enrichment. My son, who's a bit mite advanced in both subjects, is no longer feeling unchallenged in school because he takes these classes in between! MATH: With today's changing times where elementary and middle schools are leaning toward the common core German method of teaching (like the more well known and reputable universities in our country!) I think a program like this is going to be critical to helping our children understand the fundamentals of math. Schools today may not be able to teach both with an aggressive/limited school schedule unlike foreign countries who attend school year round and have the proper time. I have already found my son living to solve math problems and testing himself on skills. Unprompted! READING: great to learn handwriting, reading technique. My son has always loved books but now I find he's also loves writing things for me to read. It's awesome. We also discovered in school he is a speed reader and enjoys long novels. These classes ares teaching him how to use words properly and also the various meaning to the same words. Including sound variations. Summary: well worth the investment.

Perfect teacher to student ratios, diverse learning/play areas, plenty of outdoor time, fantastic and healthy lunch and snacks created by two full time chefs are some of the ways that The Alphabet Academy outshine all others. Best decision made! Being a former educator for 10 years, there were no other schools even comparable! AA focuses on your child's curiosities, growing their independence, has a nutritious food program that incorporates fresh, local & organic foods (no need to prep food which is a treat and a bigger treat that the food is so healthy), fun yoga classes (so great to start them young), an array of programs that incorporate art, music, drama, etc. and of course the teachers are always incorporating social, emotional, speech/language, fine/gross motor element into their learning days. Kids are outside a lot, there are organic gardens, cute chickens and no technology so kids can actually be kids in this fast-paced modern world! Most importantly, the environment is what makes the school so special. There is joy and excitement from the children and you can feel the loving and nurturing energy from all teachers/staff/administrators. Even the parents feel so part of the school due to the community element that is fostered from pot luck events, art shows, graduations, Mother's Day and Father's Day events and even a night to drop off your child before holiday break for a few hours in the evening! Let's not forget to mention that summertime turns into a camp where the children get to go on field trips, do TaeKwonDo, tie-dye shirts, tons of water play/activities! There's never a dull moment at Alphabet Academy, just full of excitement & learning!

I have had the great opportunity to meet some very nice, wonderful kids, as well as, some amazing tutors and hardworking NHR people. Some of the kids I have worked with have ranged from 3rd grade to 7th. We do various reading/literacy activities via workbooks, computer games, and of course in the books they choose to read. Some times they bring school work and they always bring great stories about their day or what they did over the weekend. There are always apples or tangerines, and string cheese available as healthy snacks for the kids. There is also an amazing amount of books there FOR FREE!! I get so nostalgic when I walk in there because I see all of my favorites from childhood lining the shelves: Nancy Drew, The Phantom Tollbooth, My Side of the Mountain, A Wrinkle in Time. The staff makes it so easy to jump in and tutor. They are very understanding, supportive, welcoming, and just phenomenal with all of the kids. They know them all so well. I find that overwhelmingly impressive because there are so many of them! Volunteer, donate, visit, or peruse here. It is a wonderful program and place here in New Haven.
