Maui Friends of the Library is a non-profit organization that runs 3 used bookstores here on Maui…read more This MFOL store is now located at the Outlet Shops on Front Street. They also have stores at Ka'ahumanu Shopping Center and Old Pu'unene School, near the Sugar Mill. They have been around since 1912 - over 100 years! Their mission is to assist in ensuring our libraries remain free public libraries, promote the extension of library services, secure materials beyond the command of the ordinary library budget, and enrich the cultural opportunities available in our community. This has remained unchanged since the 1950's. Their books are donated to them and are sold at very, very reasonable prices. All of their workers are volunteers and the money they do make is donated to Maui public libraries. How awesome is that? This is definitely something I can get behind and support! This particular location is small, but mighty. Upon walking in, you're welcomed with a collection of Hawaiiana, books rich in history and various aspects of the culture of Hawai'i. They also have cute books for keiki that would make perfect gifts this Christmas. Peruse the aisles and you'll find a variety of used and new books. From cooking to history to biographies and even beautiful vintage books, bibliophiles or anyone that enjoys a good book in hand can find something here. I bought a brand new book ($10) for my niece about Lahaina town and the nice volunteer that rung me up, Walter, mentioned I could any used book for free! My husband also got a few cookbooks and I scored a vintage Betty Crocker Cooky Book from 1963 (I don't bake, but thought it was really cool. lol). They had a buy one get one free special and so ended up only paying a cool $6 for these used books. Total score! Book stores are a dying breed on Maui, but I would highly recommend a stop here. The staff are friendly and very helpful and I just love supporting places like this. Just don't forget to bring CASH, credit cards are not accepted. Happy browsing!

Books are divided into sections such as romance, science fiction, biographies, women, and humor. And a few more that I can't remember. There is also a central focus on Hawaiiana with books on history, tourism, children's section, & recipe books. Staff is friendly and helpful. Since it is a used bookstore, the options change often so I will certainly be back. They USED TO be a "cash only" biz, but started taking credit cards Oct 2022.

Located along the main street in Kaunakakai, it's easy to spot and has plenty of free parking right outside. The store is kept super clean and well organized; there is care in what they sell and how it's displayed. Pet the two lazy dogs that own the place, they'll probably be asleep. The main room has Molokai and Maui art works and crafts. Used books are in a cabinet at the back. In the side room they have young children education toys, along with new books and more crafts. It's a great selection, something for everyone. Prices are high, which is understandable for the island. The ladies working there were friendly and talkative, be sure to talk story and ask for recommendations about the island.

Without the benefit of earning points. The prices are higher than if you went to Pukalani or Kahului but I guess that is the price you pay for convenience. I do like that they have some decent lunch specials and I dont have to drive to Pukalani or town. The poke is decent and they do a pretty good job with the poke bowls. They usually have a decent produce and meat section. I would stay away from the juices and the teas. The large refrigerator doesn't always work so well. I have bought many a gallon of iced tea or POG and gotten home opened it and it is spoiled. The customer service is usually pretty good but at times it would be nice. If they had more than one cashier. Overall it's good for picking up one or two items but it will definetly drain your wallet pretty fast shopping here all the time. It would definitely be nice if Foodland would let us earn points for shopping here.
