First of the prices for lessons are total rip offs cant remember exactly how much they are but remember getting a shock! Ace are the biggest money robbers in durham, when you do a lesson with them they say part of the money (that you pay extra) goes for paying of your tests which according to them they use that money to pay for tests . I was unemployed at the time of doing my lessons and they were telling me to fork out over £60 for 2 hour lessons on a 125 that would probs cost about £3 in petrol for one hour which obviously I could not afford. It was like they were trying to get me to book lessons what was covenant for ace and not the paying customer.
Thing is with ace is that like most larger riding schools you don't get the same instructor every lesson so just as you learn one thing another instructor will start you of with something else. They claim there bikes are regally maintained even tho mine kept cutting out and so was the other learners machines. The instructors are more like bullys as well its hard to explain just the way they I act i guess. I remember when I was doing module one training and one of the instructors told me I would never pass my mod one, from after having enough decided to go with another school which is 1 on 1 all the way and i passed my mod 1 2 weeks after being told I would never pass. I saw the same ace instructor to at the test centre when i passed my mod one thought id wave my certificate so he could see;). Also before I moved riding schools ace did say I was up to standard for mod 1 (which i was on day one) but they said i need to get it perfect. In other words they wanted more money of me before doing my mod 2 lessons even tho I was at standard.
Mod one lessons are the same price as mod 2 which is ridicules considering you will barley use half the amount of fuel as the mod 2 lessons and have no chance of hitting another vehicle. Also when i was doing my mod 1 lessons the cbt learners were practising on the same car park and we were keep having to wait to they got past a curtain point. Ace were also doing 4 cbts per 1 instructor which is illegal.
After stopped doing lessons with ace I wanted my money back of what they are supposed to put down for your tests and they would not give me it. It worked out at around £80 to £100 which to this day I never got of them.
Maybe Ace should come to the local moto x track were I can show them how to ride? Ace you need to get your smug personalities and ditch them just because you are road standards certified and the biggest school in durham does not mean you can take customers money for granted and bully people and make them feel uncomfortable? tell your instructors not to shout at learners either if they talked to me like what they used to I would tell them where to go.
Would recommend people considering taking bike lessons to go with a one in one instructor and who is self employed so they will treat you with a lot more respect. There are a lot better schools in durham and surrounding areas and cheaper.
One more thing I bought a helmet of Ace and paid £70 if i remember correctly and the visor would not click in after a week and was a nightmare to buckle. Buy your gear from a propa bike shop not a bunch of rip offs who sell Chinese gear.
Glad to see ace has 2 good reviews but sadly a nightmare from me and first time I have ever left one 1 star which they lucky to get. Funny how they only get 2 good reviews on the biggest review site going considering they the biggest school in the northeast lol. read more
