Just got off the phone again with Gemma. She's always pleasant and helpful. I needed a hospital bed on very short notice last month and it needed to come all the way out to Laie (by the Polynesian Cultural Center). My family and I visited this location to purchase an electric scooter for my adult son and it was such a pleasant experience. Annie and Brian were extremely helpful and answered all of my questions to help me find the best option. I especially appreciate that they didn't pressure me to buy an expensive item and helped me find a less expensive option. We chose a compact walker that can also be used as a lightweight wheelchair. I needed 2 nasal pillow masks (CPAP). Grubby little store. Walked in and the guy at the counter yelled "I can't leave the counter. You'll have to wait until the woman gets back". A few minutes later, A Philipina with a thick accent asked what I wanted. She did not seem to understand English very well. She said she would go "Look and see what we have"...I offered to help look, and she told me to stay put. She found one mask, with no head strap. She looked for a few minutes and found another mask that she thought would work. The price was twice I saw on Amazon. She told me the sale was final, whether it actually fit or not. Let's get this out of the way first: of COURSE you can just buy this equipment on Amazon. Of course you could read all the reviews and then wait for it to be delivered. But this equipment is incredibly important. Some things, some people just need to see, touch, feel, test. And sometimes, you need it fast. Even two day delivery doesn't help in an emergency where, frankly, a loved one's health and comfort is on the line. I didn't know until 7 a.m. that I needed a transport chair for my wife at noon. I reached out to Ace Medical on Yelp. Terry responded immediately, asked a few questions, told me what would work and told me where they were in stock (both Waipahu and Honolulu stores). I actually sent my teen son to pick it up. Gemma in Waipahu was friendly and knowledgable. He was well taken care of, actually taking the time to text me that "the lady who is helping me is great." Getting that out of a 16 year old is no small feat. I know the reviews for Ace Medical's locations are mixed, so I had to put in the effort to give them a thumbs up. Medical supply rental is very limited on this island. The one rental I had a few years ago worked out well. But more recently I called to inquire if they had an item and no one called me back so I went to their store to find it. The item I purchased was expensive for the quality. I recently had a visit to this location to replace my BiPaP machine and to be honest, I was a little frustrated and scared at the idea of leaving the comfort of my home during COVID. (I was relieved to find that there was an ACE Medical located in Waipahu and I wouldn't need to drive all the way into town, thank goodness. I had called prior to set up an appointment with Bert who greeted me with a very pleasant voice and with enthusiasm to help me out in my time of need. The conversation on the phone was quick with the appointment set up and he was patient with me over me despite all my questions.) ** When I walked into the establishment I was greeted immediately by the receptionist, whom welcomed me with a warm smile and asked how she could be of assistance. I noticed immediately that the place looked very clean and organized, everyone was wearing a mask properly, and even hand sanitizer was available for customers to use. I let the receptionist know that I was here to see Bert and I had set an appointment with him for 2 pm. She confirmed with me that he was here and she just had to grab him from the back room. First time I went to Ace Medical Supplies It was in 2017. I was looking for diapers for my step son. He is handicap. The had all kinds of things. I was amazed at the prices. Anyway, the case of diapers I bought was too small. I called and told them about it and and although it says all sales are final they let me exchange it for a bigger size. Me and my husband got CPAP machines from them. Today I went to see Bert because I was having problems with my machine and my HMSA won't let me get another one till 5 years and really needed one. Your staff REFUSED to exchange the wrong sized mask that was dispensed to my daughter in AUGUST. 5 days later i called to attempt an exchange after I realized it was the wrong size the exact same month!!!! A staff member stated that she would not exchange it since the bag was opened. I attempted to return it after 5 days it was received in AUGUST and your staff didn't seem to understand that there is a 30 day exchange policy when I was dispensed the wrong size by the staff. I wasn't told there was a 30 day return policy. I was told if I opened it; it wouldn't be exchanged!!!!! Since your staff refused to exchange it days after I received it initially in AUGUST, I said I would then wait for her next mask equipment supply scheduled. Then she was given only nasal pillows. If I took the initiative to make an appointment with my child's doctor and ask her to put in an order for a mask refit; why would I wait till April to attempt to exchange it??? Really?? Think about it. The management kept repeating that I didn't bother to exchange it till April as an excuse. Really??? When I called to attempt to exchange it the staff member refused stating that since it was opened that she wouldn't exchange it. I was told your business does not deliver and tried to charge me for delivery. Then I asked if they could at the very least notify us when her supplies were due and she HUNG UP ON ME!!!!! Your staff gave me the wrong size and refused to exchange it, claiming they don't exchange an open product. When they gave me the incorrect size initially. This was 5 DAYS after I first received the mask in August. They refused. The frame was to large for my daughter which is why I had a refit at their business. Then I was given only nasal pillows without a frame and stuck with the last mask frame that was to large. When she was due for her next round of supplies I had to call to ask for her supplies was told she was due for a mask. I specified the mask because of the issue of the wrong size previously and I was told it had to be ordered and it would take 2 weeks. They never called to follow-up with me. I called back 2 weeks later and was told when I got there she wasn't due for a mask and was only given nasal pillows and still stuck with a frame that was to large. My DME Company gave me a full mask and we are on the SAME SUPPLY SCHEDULE, which is why I knew to call. The DME that I have gave me a full mask because we are both due for one. This was the only reason I knew to call for hers. We have the same mask type!!!! The frame should also be replaced at the same time as the nasal portion since the mask is made of the exact same material as the nasal portion!!!! I was only given the nasal portion for her and I was able to get a whole mask with mine when we have the SAME INSURANCE??? On the same schedule??? When it's made from the exact same material???? My company that delivers my sleep equipment delivered me a full mask and was able to bill for it and delivered it to me without a delivery fee. The company where I get my personal cpap equipment; specializes in ONLY SLEEP EQUIPMENT and they were able to bill for a full mask for me; and we are both on the SAME SUPPLY SCHEDULE!!! We both got a full mask at the same time last time. Which means she was also supposed to get a full mask. I tried to return it 5 days after I INITIALLY RECEIVED it in AUGUST. When I wrote a review on Google the owner or manager kept repeating that I only attempted to return it in April. First off the owner or manager or whatever wasn't even there and I spoke to a staff member by phone and she kept claiming that I only tried to return it in April. A lie!!! She is due for a full mask and was only given nasal pillows. Then she claimed on the reviews that she asked me to go to another provider. Another lie. I told her I didn't want to work with this company anymore. But, i guess anything to look better on the reviews right? My 11 year old has been suffering since August!!! We needed to get a hospital bed for our mom. Talked to HMSA for procedures, need a prescription from mom's doctor. Got it and dropped it off to Terry at Ace Medical on Wednesday (11/10/21) . Checked with Terry on Friday (11/12/21) on status of the hospital bed. Was told it would take about three weeks. They needed more paperwork form her doctor. Long story short. I worked with Terry, Bert, Jennifer, Pete at Ace Medical and mom's doctor. Got HMSA approval and the bed was delivered on Wednesday (11/17/21) all in 7 days. I was real skeptical about coming here based on the star rating, but out of the multiple places I called for a wheel chair, this was the only place that accepts Tricare/HeathNet. Regardless of that fact, based on my visit today, I have no clue how their average review score is so low. They have my highest recommendation. Violeta, in particular, was very impressive. I believe she was/is a nurse, because she totally knew what she was talking about the whole time. It turns out that my doctor's office didn't put in a referral for the wheel chair, even though they wrote me a script for one. Violeta called up their office and told their nurse exactly what they had to do. Unfortunately, I have to wait for the referral to be put in, processed and approved before I can get my own wheel chair, but I was able to rent one from them in the meantime. The only recommendation I can come up with, is that Violeta take ALL of her personal knowledge and train her entire staff with it. Even though her crew was very customer service oriented and friendly, I could tell Violeta was definitely the subject matter expert there (which completely makes sense since it's her business). She seems to know everything from what kind of equipment a person needs and why, to the whole script, referral and billing side of the house. Her demonstration on assembly, disassembly, proper use and storage was also very quick but thorough. If everyone performed at her level, their star rating would max out, without a doubt. Just bought a set of ivacare leg rest for a wheelchair. it cost us $78.53; online it's $35. Smells like a rip off deal. Never coming to this place again. They said at first, their leg rest sets ranges from $34 to $75. We asked for a cheaper one and the lady said they only have the $78 leg rest. I would not recommend this place to anybody. I would rather order everything online from now on. And the old Filipino looking lady that helped us was rude and irritating asking us how we're going to pay when she sees me trying to test out the product. BEWARE! I have had several had experiences with Ace Medical Supply (Waipahu). Background: I was referred to them by my doctor to purchase a cpap machine for sleep apnea. I have regretted dealing with them shortly after that! 1) They sent me supplies I didn't order or approve. Cpaps require new consumables every few months to keep them clean (masks, hoses, filters, etc.), so I ordered my first few consumables kits from them. At one point I started shopping around and found another supplier who was closer by and easier to work with, so I stopped ordering anything from Ace Medical Supply (Waipahu). After a few months later a box of supplies shows up at my house from Ace. I called them and told them I didn't order the supplies and asked why they sent them. The lady tried to tell me I have to change the consumables to keep the machine clean. I told her I knew that, and I have been buying my consumables from another supplier. So she told me to just drop it off to them at the store if I didn't want them. I asked if I could just ship it back to them, because I live in town, and it was difficult for me to get out to Waipahu after work with traffic. She said that is fine, but I would have to pay for shipping. At that point, I didn't feel like arguing about it, so I just let it go and drove it out to them on the weekend. 2) About a year later, I get a call from someone at Ace telling me that I owe them for an order of supplies they sent me. I tried to tell them the story about the incident above, but they kept insisting that they never received it, and I had misplaced the receipt they gave me because it was like a year later! I tried to work things out with them, but the manager there told me that I need to pay my bill, or they would report me to the credit bureau. At that point, I had no way to argue my case, so I just paid the bill. 3) I told myself I'd never deal with Ace again, but then I was told my new consumables supplier that there was a recall on my machine. I went online and registered with the mfr., and waited until a week ago. I got a call from Ace telling me my replacement cpap machine was here, and I need to bring my old one in to swap it out. I drive to Waipahu from town today and begin the replacement process, and the lady hands me a waiver to read and sign while she's preparing the new machine. I read it and really didn't feel comfortable signing the waiver. It looked like a locally produced document that Ace created that absolved them of any and all future liability, etc., etc.! I told the lady I wasn't comfortable signing this document, so she said if I don't sign it, I couldn't get my new warranty machine! At this point, my level of trust with Ace and their backwards business practices is non-existent, and I wasn't going to let them strong arm me again! I walked out with my old machine and contacted the Better Business Bureau to see if they can help me resolve this latest nuisance with Ace! I do not recommend you do business with this company!
