My girls and I ended up here to grab a bite of food. We ended up spending the night here. The vibes were nice, and the dj was playing some good tunes. I'm assuming the night we went wasn't African night because we left without hearing 1 African song. Nonetheless, it was a good crowd, and people were actually friendly, which is rare in these types of settings. The food took over 45 minutes to come once the crowd grew, and it became harder to locate our server. It seemed like they were understaffed last night. We ordered the lamb fries, which were bomb. Full of flavor and the portion were good.  I would definitely recommend it. My friend got the salmon burger, and her review was "it's ok, I've had better" .  I ordered the lamb and  mashpotatoes, and It was delicious. Chef kiss.  Lamb was cooked to perfection, and the potatoes were creamy. I would give this establishment another shot. I really wanted to like Ace, but it ended up being a huge disappointment. Music is very loud. Which is good if you're there for the club experience, but not for dinner. Service was horrible. We weren't given glasses of water or even utensils in a napkin. When the food came out, our waitress just walked over to us with a fist full of forks and told us each to take one. LIKE HUH?! Ace Atlanta is primarily a nightclub and hookah lounge, but it's a restaurant too, serving a menu of both American and West African cuisine. The business opened in December 2017 in Independent Plaza on Buford Highway. Buford Highway food enthusiasts will probably best remember this space as the old Chateau Saigon (https://bit.ly/32PCRI6), a Vietnamese restaurant which was a fixture on Buford Highway for over a decade. Chateau Saigon closed in May 2017. To those who remember Chateau Saigon, the space, inside and out, is unrecognizable today. The owners of Ace did a great job renovating the place, especially the interior. You can't tell from the outside because of the tinted windows and nondescript storefront. Inside, it looks like a posh lounge with a bar, large-group booths galore (16), big-screen displays, mini chandeliers, bold and colorful artwork, and a bubble wall. It's swanky and stylish. My friend and I had dinner on the outdoor patio which features an artificial hedge wall, cushioned seating, glass-top tables, and cool burst light fixtures. When I called to inquire about outside seating, I was told the patio was open weather-permitting. We arrived to Ace around 4:30pm on a Sunday (they open at 4:00pm on Sunday) and had to wait until almost 5:00pm for the patio to open (they had to put the cushions out). Since it was daytime, the club barely had customers inside, but more folks slowly trickled in as the time went on. While we waited inside, they played NFL on the screens for entertainment. They have a great A/V system with bright, crisp displays and high-def sound. The food ranges in price from $9 to $25 per plate and can easily go up when you pair sides with certain dishes, which was highly recommended by our server Kiki. For example, I was interested in both the Ayamase and Okra (under the African section) and Kiki suggested I add white rice ($3) to the Ayamase order ($12) and pounded yam ($5) to the Okra order ($14). Ace's American food consists of items like chicken wings ($12), pastas ($15-19), and lamb chops ($25). We opted for the African dishes (more on those below). There's almost a full bar on the drink menu -- beer, champagne, cognac, tequila, whiskey, and vodka, but no wine. Hookahs cost $25 each with $15 refills. There are 10 different flavors plus two, Blue Mist Mint and Mighty Freeze, that cost $5 extra. Here's what the two of us had: * Suya ($12) - thin-sliced grilled beef, rubbed with authentic Suya spices from Nigeria, served with tomato and onion * Okra ($14) - finely-chopped and seasoned okra cooked with "meats and seafood" -- Okra paired with: pounded yam ($5) - yam flour processed with hot water * Ayamase ($12) - palm oil fried "meaty dish" in a spicy jalapeno sauce, mixed with onions, green herbs, and spices -- Ayamase paired with: white rice ($3) * Chicken Addis ($17) - grilled chicken with Addis rice and seasoned vegetables topped with rosemary sauce * Fiji bottled water ($4.50 per bottle) Overall, I thought the food was good and better than the food I had at a comparable African restaurant and lounge, also on Buford Highway, Tropical Cuisine (https://bit.ly/2FOEZY3). I recommend both the Suya and the Ayamase. Both were tasty and we gobbled them up. It turned out I wasn't able to eat the Okra because it contained shrimp, which I'm allergic to. The Chicken Addis was OK, but a little overpriced. Fiji water appeared to be the only water option, which was fine with us (we're both fans). The Suya was delicious. My mouth waters just thinking about it. What we had was essentially thin slices of grilled steak with fresh, raw slices of tomato and white onion. The steak was seasoned with a dried spice mix from Nigeria that was red-orange in color. It was salty, spicy, and yummy. It was a simple dish, not too much to it, but satisfying nonetheless. The meat was tender enough. I'd say it was cooked medium to medium well. The Ayamase was good, and comparatively more complex. It was a savory beef stew that went perfectly with the white rice. It had bone-in beef, tripe, and a whole boiled egg. The broth was oily, but gratifyingly rich and flavorful. Well-balanced and nicely spiced, I ate all of it. As mentioned previously, I couldn't eat the Okra due to the shrimp content. I started digging in, mixing, and seeing what all was in the "meats and seafood" described on the menu. Out came two jumbo shrimp and some chunks of fish. This was another stew. It smelled appetizing and very seafoody. I watched as my friend carefully ate it with the pounded yam, making sure to pick out the tiny fish bones. I did try the yam with my Ayamase and it was alright. The yam was served steaming hot in plastic wrap and had a soft, chewy consistency. The rosemary sauce on the Chicken Addis (Ethiopian) was creamy and piquant and the chicken itself (breast meat) was decent quality. It's a basic and safe dish for the non-adventurous. Good service. I really love Ace! I have been so many times and never had any complaints. Parking can be challenging on some weekends but really, just go before midnight. The servers are soooooo helpful and really take care of you without any attitude. Even the security is really friendly and helpful. I have seen the same treatment for males and females - totally unbiased. Their hookah is smooth and doesn't burn out quickly. Drinks are GOOD. never watered down. Music is excellent (except when they play tons of trap music). I love when its a mix of afrobeats, american AND caribbean music. The vibe is like none other. I like Ace because its multi purpose. Ther game nights are fun with jenga, connect 4, uno and cards. All for free with food and drink specials. Their Friday ans Saturday is good to dress up and party with a big crowd. I've been at the bar and had a section and the service was great. Sunday afternoon/evening is slow, so you can just be chill with hookah and food. Their food is sooooooooooo good! Upon entering Ace I was greeted. I was only there for take out. I was directed to the bar for pick up. The space was very open and divided by big sections. Another 20 minutes went by and we had to go and grab the server again to place a drink order since the rest of the party was never greeted. The ambiance is cute, while the service was unacceptable. I went here on a Saturday night. At first everything was good, my server was nice she took care of us. Problem occurred when they started to shift over from lounge to club. They take up the chairs so you can't sit for free. We were only there for about an hour before the switch. So they start to sell sections (which are split in half) so don't think you're going to get a whole section. We were asked to move to one half of the section, cool. The girl who asked had an attitude though. She sat about 15 people in half a section. They were looking confused, I informed some of them they could sit on our side because clearly that was uncomfortable. She came back and told them to move, and "figure it out, y'all can fit". When one responded "she (referring to me) said that we could sit there", the server replied "she gone be moving too cause this about to get brought".I asked her why and she stated "y'all didn't pay for the sections".. Mind you the bill was paid, which was about $400 for 2 people (we ordered good amount of food, but that was mostly alcohol- don julio straight) . We closed out but still had hookah and decided that we were going to stay, because I had family that were coming in town. So I asked my server what was up with that because the bottle $250, to me WE DONE PAID FOR THIS MF ALREADY. She said she was gone go see where she could move us, while waiting on that, the rude server came and was like "this section paid for, y'all got to get up". Luckily I took a pic of my receipt and I disputed the additional tip she left herself and my bank gave it back. I just assumed it was guys hanging, but soon after I walked in, they came in and started cleaning tables or something, and I realized they were employees. The lady who took me order could barely put her phone down long enough to come to where I was standing at the counter. She was extremely rude. I told her I had the to-go order. She went in back for about 30 seconds and came back and told me it wasn't ready. She didn't say anything about how long, and just went back to texting. She was glued to her phone for about 10min before checking again. This time, she had the food, but just kind of slid it towards me. She never said anything to me. She just printed out a check and sat down on her phone. Usually, I give tips, but in her case, it was an easy call to cross those blank lines out. So far for the summer my boyfriend and I have been going to ace lounge in the afternoon and we've loved it. The vibe, customer service, music and atmosphere is great around the 6:30pm -8:30pm hours. We had friends in town so we decided to rent out a section for the night . WELP! It was a DISASTER THROUGH AND THROUGH first we paid $500 for a section didn't know how much it would seat so when we got there I'm assuming we were taking up two sections no one informed us. Around 9:30pm a NASTIEST ATTITUDE bottle girl came over and basically told us in the most nastiest way ever to get out the section. After HUNTING down our waitress and couldn't find her we had to get a bartender to help place us at a higher section that of course the nasty waitress was sitting in the section I told them to get her ass out the section immediately. Money is never a issue for us when we go out but I'm sure they judged the book by the cover and thought we bought a $500 section and assume that we couldn't afford a bigger section clearly because we weren't informed on how small the section was. Now usually when we go out the bottle girl assigned to us makes more in tip than the club makes for the table because we believe in generous tips for great service but the WHOLE night I had to be hunting the waitress down!!! Ridiculous literally the whole night while her and the other bottle girls are busy videoing for they're social media instead of tending to they're tables. Long story short NEVER AGAIN!! I will always encourage people to check out MIRZA LOUNGE located in Lawrenceville, I've been going there for years and never been disappointed. First time coming to taco Tuesday and it was alright... the DJ was great and had a vibe going and the food would've been good if I didn't get it cold. I came in around 8:30 before a crowd. She finally came and took our order and took another 15 minutes just to give us our drinks. We finally got our drinks and it looked nothing as pictured on the website. I feel like if I pay $25 for a drink, it should at least look presentable. I probably would have enjoyed myself more if things came out in a timely manner.
