The initial conversation went very well. Kyle came across as knowledgeable, professional, and confident. He took the time to discuss my brother's tax situation, explained a clear game plan, requested the necessary documents, and assured him that he would take care of the work. Based on those conversations, there was every reason to believe the tax returns were moving forward. Then the communication changed. I personally saw the text conversations where Kyle repeatedly made commitments such as, "I'll call you today," "I'll get your returns 100% completed tomorrow," and "Tomorrow I'll e-file your returns." After those commitments were made, my brother spent weeks sending follow-up texts and making phone calls simply trying to get updates, with little to no response. If there were legitimate IRS, documentation, or compliance concerns preventing the returns from being completed, that would have been understandable. A CPA should absolutely follow professional standards and should not file anything that does not meet those requirements. However, that was not what was communicated throughout this process. What I witnessed was a breakdown in communication, missed commitments, and a client repeatedly trying to get answers. According to my brother's experience, the refund was only issued after he stated that he would involve local law enforcement due to the lack of communication and inability to get a response. While I acknowledge that the refund was eventually provided, it does not erase the weeks of unanswered messages, missed commitments, and frustration that led up to that point. What concerns me further is that after reading other Yelp reviews, including reviews going back approximately nine months, I noticed similar concerns raised by other customers. Several reviews describe a similar pattern: a strong initial consultation, confidence that a plan was in place, payment and submission of information, followed by difficulty getting timely communication afterward.
