I am compelled to let others know what they may face in Autumn Care of Cornelius. It was recommended by the hospital that I receive rehab after treatment for a severe break in my femur. I was given a list to choose from with star ratings. Autumn Care of Cornelius had only a 2 star rating, but a woman visited my hospital room and really encouraged me to try their facility-- that the poor rating was an old rating and they were a 4-5 star facility currently. She showed beautiful pictures and we were impressed with what she had to say. I checked other ratings online and the ratings were wide ranging. We decided to give it a go because it was close to home. As I was being transported to the place, I got a call from a neighbor warning me that many of the members of the neighborhood were "aghast" that I had opted for Autumn Care of Cornelius. I figured "What the heck--I am pretty laid back, easy to please, and it's only for a few days anyway". I am so sorry I didn't listen to them. I have been treated for years for chronic pain, due to a failed spinal fusion and peripheral neuropathy. As a psychologist, I am well aware of the dangers of addiction and opioid use, but my treatment at ACOC was nothing less than torture. My pain level from the accident was extreme, but it was never treated adequately. They would only give about half the medication I was taking for pain PRIOR to the accident. My new injury wasn't being treated at all and it was joined by pain from my prior condition. After hours of unrelenting pain, I begged them to contact my pain doctor and my husband even brought in my prescription bottles to show them my baseline pain treatment levels, but they wouldn't budge. They said since I was scheduled to leave the facility for an appointment with my pain doctor in 2 days, that I could just have him send recommendations back with me and they would honor them. I suffered through 7-8 level pain for 2 days, came back from my appointment with recommendations of my regular pain treatment plus a little extra that I could request for an extreme break out of pain. I was so relieved that I was going to get some relief, but very little changed in the next day, so I demanded to be released. They tried hard to convince me otherwise. One nurse tried to explain that some of the staff were misreading the dosage of the pill given (no excuse at all!) Ironically, the Physical Therapy team was outstanding, but I can't recommend you send your loved one there due to the unresponsive medical team. It is hard to give even 1 star. I encourage you to heed the warnings that I ignored.

There…read moreare mostly 5-star reviews on Google and maybe the reviewer goes home immediately to write the review. However, the mostly 5-stars is a bit confusing to me. I would like to interview the previous reviewers on how they feel presently (since time has passed), since their root cause was more than likely not properly addressed. I debated for months if I wanted to write this review or not, but I feel it's time and needed. Just a little backstory on myself, I started having MAJOR stomach issues in 2020, I've been to a conventional doctor, internist, a gastroenterologist, and as a last resort to Charlotte Functional Medicine-Dr. Bartemus. I was very hopeful after my first, initial appointment with Dr. Bartemus, he ordered blood tests, a urine sample and a stool test. He addressed the issues that came back not optimal (high or low) with supplements and referred me to several specialists, since some things were out of his wheelhouse. However, it was only a three-month treatment plan of supplements. Fast forward to 3 months later and to my surprise, I emailed Dr. Bartemus when my 12-week final follow-up appointment was coming up, I noticed on the follow-up testing there was only blood work for a few tests and not a stool test (wouldn't someone want another stool test (especially if the major complaint was gut issues) completed at the end of treatment to see where things stand and to see if your treatment plan, that was provided to your patient, worked!?!). I explained to him I was still having stomach issues and I know I still was nowhere close to being better (in hindsight, 3 months is not long enough to properly heal the gut!!!). He then explained to me that I could order another stool test (since I was still having issues) even though he stated another stool test is not needed but if I wanted one that it would be an additional $511 on top of the $6,500 I have already paid him. At the 12-week appointment, he wanted me to reintroduce foods back into my diet, to see how I would react to them. But how could I have done that if my initial issues haven't been resolved yet?!? He then proceeded to tell me that the bloating (among other issues that persisted) I was still experiencing was chronic (Chronic??? I'm not ready to accept that, there's a root cause to bloating and can't and shouldn't be written off as "chronic") I know Dr. Bartemus values his YouTube page for all of his success stories and positive reviews on Google, and I imagine that's why he ghosted me after my last appointment with him in May, he really didn't want my review out there. I knew in my heart that was the last time I would ever hear from him again, even though he stated he would be following-up with me in a couple of weeks. I just wanted to come on here to write my honest review about my experience and maybe to help others trying to find answers to their problems in desperation, in my case desperate times caused for desperate measures.
