Selection. That's the point of shopping at Academy. They have a broad selection of sports & outdoor "stuff". There is always a selection of clearance items, both clothing and shoes. You can find good deals! I appreciate that they carry at least one pair of women's running shoes in a wide. I've seen Brooks and Asics in a wide. I wish there was a better selection of tennis court shoes. They do have tennis clothing. I'm usually looking for something specific when I shop here, and it's been hit or miss. read more

Had a great experience at Academy Sports! Came in to purchase a firearm and Vinny was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and patient throughout the entire process. He offered great advice and made sure we were comfortable with everything. Afterward, we walked around the store and were surprised at how much they have--definitely more than we expected! We'll be back soon just to browse. The checkout line in the front was pretty long when we were leaving, so we were grateful we could check out in the back. Overall, excellent service and a well-stocked store! We did feel the firearm was a good deal, but it's unfortunate we missed the offer for a military discount by one day. The store we shop in for firearms out of town always has a military discount. read more

I found out that a crazy ex stalks me and I had to get some protection. The staff were courteous and professional. They had a great set of selections for my AR-15 add on's great value. I caught a really good deal on ammo and was surprised at how cheap the crossbows were. Great value indeed read more

I've got some issues going on in my personal life which require "enhanced protection". I went to the ammunition counter and was assisted by Rick. He was knowledgeable, funny, and didn't try to upsell me ridiculously. The price was reasonable, selection was great, and I even got some throwing stars (which was pretty cool). I'll definitely be back... read more

Not the place it used to be. Was in there to pick up an online order and that process took almost an hour. The sales person, Mark, had an attitude from the beginning and was in sloooooow motion. At the counter I asked if I could pay for an additional item and he told me 'check out up front' when I mentioned I'd just seen him check out another customer he walked away and I never saw him again. Another sales person, Rick, took over and I was out of there in 10 minutes. Your sales people are the face of your company. read more

I am not one for sports, unless it's tennis, so it is a rare occurance to find myself here. But tennis balls and racquets do not last forever. Nor do umbrellas. I am one who believes a umbrella should cover a substantial amount of space, as rain often blows in from the side or you may be in a situation where someone else is without. That is why I purchase golf umbrellas for personal use. And where does one find golf umbrellas? Here of course. I do get distracted by all this store has to offer and I am appreciative of the friendly team, since I usually require some guidance on where to find a item. I can't imagine there being anything sports, camping, hunting, or just good ole outdoor activity related that this store wouldn't have. read more

Went into Academy Sports in Evans, GA to look at the Bond Arms Rough Neck. Both gun guys were busy so they got the gal to help. Asked the snotty gal to take the trigger lock off so that I could check the action and dry fire the pistol. (Most gun owners would consider this a reasonable request because of the "All sales are final" policy of these big box stores.) She said that she wouldn't do it because it was against policy and has been that way ever since she worked there for 17 years. Well, I've bought 1 shotgun and 3 pistols there -- bought a Sig last year -- I was able to check the action and dry fire each and every one in that same store. When I asked how I was suppose to check it out, with a very snotty tone, she said, "Do your research before you come in to buy. Besides, that gun is not good." I've never had a gun store employee treat me like this or speak so negatively about a product. I don't think Bond Arms would like retailers speaking this way about their fine products. Won't be buying anything from this outfit ever again. I urge others to avoid this company and start supporting your local neighborhood gun shop. Even if you have to pay a little more, it's worth supporting the small time operator. They won't squawk about removing a trigger lock and letting you dry fire. read more

I've been to this Academy location probably 6 or 7 times in the last year or so. Nothing really great or bad to point out here except the service - which is TERRIBLE. In particular the service in the shoe department. On my last trip here with a friend of mine, we walked through the shoe department for probably 30 minutes without a SINGLE EMPLOYEE asking us if we needed any assistance. There were also quite a few other customers in the department, also not getting help. Almost the entire half hour we were there, all of the associates from that department were congregating amongst themselves in the middle of the department cackling and having a great time. Good thing I didn't need any help... read more

Customer service sucks! I was in the store for at least 20 minutes and past at least 5 employees...not one said a word! No offered assistance or even said hello. I was in the market for a pair of white tennis shoes and searched the entire floor with no luck or help. read more

Went into Academy looking for some supplies for smoking my thanksgiving dinner. I was unable to find what I needed. During my visit more than 10 associates passed by me and not one person asked if I needed help. Even though I had been standing in the aisle for a few minutes. When I visit the aiken store they are always friendly and helpful. I don't know if it's the culture at the Washington road store or lack of management and training. Luckily I was able to go to Gander Outdoors and was helped and able to get what I needed for my dinner. read more

I had the worst experience with this store I stopped here to buy a Gun on Black Friday when I was coming back in town because I figured the lines would be smaller and they where. As I am paying with the cashier she offers to email me reciept so I said yes please .Two weeks later no Reciept and I am gonna loose My rebate because of this.I called the store and got put on hold for 40 mins they just kept putting me on hold and some new person would answer each one more lost then the last one. Finally I talked to a manager at least that's what I was told and she told me i have to drive back two hours to Augusta in order to get my reciept because they didn't have the technology in 2020 to send me the reciept that they originally offered to email me .Called Corporate and also no help they pretty much told me I was screwed unless I make the 2 hour trip. SMH never shopping here again instead of saving money I lost $50 .I should just came to bass pro shop read more

I went in here to buy some socks and a magazine for a pistol. There is a huge sign above the entry door that they will beat any advertised price in Georgia by 5%. I had to wait for 8 minutes at the gun counter while two associates finished their conversation about the last customer they had that they deemed "stupid". When I got to the register, the lady ringing was really slow, which is no problem, but it did create a large line behind me. When I showed her the ad piece at a local competitor, the lady didn't even look at it, she just barked "we don't match them" and went ahead ringing up the purchase. I should've saved $10 and would've been happy coming back. Now I will be returning the entire purchase, when there is not a line a dozen people long further embarrassing me. This was sorry customer service. If I was not on a time restrained that was compounded by the slow service up front, I would have handled it right then and there. I am not upset about the slowness, I am just upset that it was followed with poor service and a snappy response without actually taking the time to read what I had. read more

Mane look, I went to academy cuz one of my home boys said they shoe game off da chain. Mane, boy tell no lie, shoe game at academy is phat! Update: I actually returned the bike, it was practically falling apart and the gears were all broken. Stupid kids. read more

I bought a Wilson golf driving net on 02 Sep 2017 and started assembling it this morning (04 Sep 17). Soon after beginning the assembly, it became apparent that the instructions were incomplete and they referred to parts that weren't included in the package. I brought the package back to the store and spoke to Rebecca, one of the on-duty managers. She was helpful and gracious, calling for another unit from stock. Together, we opened up the package and learned that the same shortcomings I discovered were evident in the in stock item. There wasn't a problem getting a refund. (Now mounting the soap box) I go to places like Academy because I assume that they maintain some kind of inventory quality assurance, occasionally opening the packages to see what is inside. I could have ordered an identical item from Amazon and been spared two round trips of 25 miles apiece. There's a weakness here. I wish that I could have given two ratings - one for quality of merchandise, the other for customer service. I would have given one or two stars for quality and five for customer service. read more

This was my first time in an Academy Sports and Outdoors, and I was blown away :). The store is huge and has everything you can imagine. The prices seemed much more reasonable than Sports Authority. What sold me on this store is that I had picked up an item that was priced incorrectly... And unlike some other big chains who don't care, they actually sold me the product for the price on the shelf which was about 60% off of what it rung up for!!! This is my new favorite sporting goods store. read more

I am a kayak fisherman. Academy always has what I need at a decent price. The employees are friendly and knowledgeable. I have never had a problem there. My biggest issue is going in for a fishing lure and walking out with a whole tackle box worth of stuff. Academy may not be as big and fancy as Cabela's but the prices are better. read more

i went to go buy a bra from this establishment on June 28, 2020 at 1pm the incident happened at 13:38 (1:38). while I was out running errands and as I was standing in line this older Caucasian woman walked all the way from the fishing section to walk pass me and stand in front of me as I was waiting in line. I kindly asked her that if she was in line the line is behind me. She looked at me and stood right next to me. The gentleman in front of me decided to allow her to take his place in front of me so she could still be in front of me in the line. I asked the employee at the register "is this what your policy allows?" And she said nothing to me. So I turned to the woman who wanted to cut the line and asked her what is the need to cut in front of me, is it because I am black ? she laughed and looked me up and down and proceeded to checkout ... the customer service rep and the individuals in the line that allowed this did not address the issue correctly, nor did the manager of this establishment. I Have served in our United States Army and fought for this country over seas to come back and deal with this type of behavior that I know is not within their policy's or standards. I feel that this establishment is discriminatory and I will never shop here again. read more

We went to Academy to buy a simple treadmill. While the employee was trying her best to be helpful, she had no product knowledge about the various treadmills and their differences. The manager did not come to help neither us nor their employee. They had the wrong information displays next to the wrong treadmills. When we expressed the one we wanted to buy they told us only the display was available, then when we said we'd buy it she went and checked with her manager who then said they can't sell it. When we asked if they could order more they said "umm we're not sure" read more

My outlook on Academy Sports has been tarnished. I went yesterday to get me a fitness bra. I just had surgery and needed it to help me heal. I went into what I thought was the ladies dressing room area. When I came out I noticed a man in the room right next to mine. I was so upset I didn't even try on anymore bras. I just took what I had and left. I explained to the manger why I was so upset and he handed me a card and told me to talk to his corporate manager. By this time I was just shaking and crying. What if I was a little girl trying on clothes, what if he was a predator? Who says he wasn't, they're were little girls in that dressing room trying on clothes and I made it known to the father that a man was in there and he went in to guard his own daughters. Has this what America come too? Women having there husbands come with them to the dressing room. Men having to go to the dressing rooms to protect their children. I called this store tonight at exactly 9:27pm and asked when they would have the Rose Bowl Champions shirts. I was told they had them now and when I asked if they were closing now the lady told me that they would be open for about 20 more minutes. We arrived at the store exactly 17 minutes later and they had already closed the security gates. An employee came to the door and said he would go talk to his manager when the situation was explained to him. The manager comes out 10 minutes later and said that no one told us that over the phone and that his store was closed and they would re-open at 8am tomorrow. He then insinuated that I never even called his store when I promptly pulled my phone out and showed him it was indeed his store that I called. I will be buying all of my Rose Bowl Champions gear along with all of my other sporting good needs at Dicks from this moment forward. I don't appreciate being lied to and then in turn basically being called a liar. read more

I went to the academy sports in Columbia, mo. to buy a crossbow. I stood at the counter for over 20 minutes while two guys talked to some kid about hunting on his grandfathers farm and never once did either one of them offer to help me. I thought she was going to go back and look but no she went to the service desk and the guy told her that what ever the price rang up is what it was.
