It's located in a strip of adjoining houses that form a pseudo strip mall on Academy Road. I like that they're open 7 days a week and that they are open till 9 pm on weeknights. They have a lot of therapists there so I can usually get an appointment on the same day that I call. I go with a different therapist every time, some are better than others. My definition of a great massage is someone who listens to my problems and then gives me a super deep tissue massage. The good ones really focus on the problem and give advice on what to after the treatment. I've had some great massages here and some bad ones but this is all due to the fact that I go with a different therapist every time. Although I never found the right therapist here so I've moved onto another clinic. But for the times when I can't get an appointment with my current massage therapist, I call Academy. Pros: - very clean facility, sheets are decently soft - they have a FT receptionist (some places don't) - lots of therapists (possible to get in on the same day) - good pricing; it's in line with most clinics around the city Cons: - because it's an old house, you can hear a lot noise from the second floor (loud creaks) which can be a bit distracting if you're looking for a very tranquil environment - certain rooms kinda loud, like the one near the kitchen or the laundry room; I prefer the ones on the second level - hit and miss with the therapists (some are friendly, a few seem a bit cold) so if you find a good one, keep them! - if you want direct billing to your insurance company, you have to pay a $3 admin charge - kinda annoying since other places don't do that. But you can just pay the entire bill and handle your own reimbursement if you want to avoid that charge. read more

I haven't had a massage in a long time and thought it was about time to treat myself to one. I searched online for affordable massage therapy places in Winnipeg and found Academy. It was the first time I was there. The facilities are clean. I love the fact that it's in a nice house (there are other houses joined to it with other businesses next door). If you're looking for a very quiet and tranquil place, this wouldn't really be for you just because it is an older house like the other review has mentioned. I on the other hand don't mind as long as the job gets done and is done right. The massage therapist I had was awesome. She asked what I wanted and I told her my problem areas and I also like that after the massage, she gives a breakdown of what felt needs more work in the future and what I can do at home to help with those problem areas as well. It was my first time visit at Academy Massage, it was the best deep tissue massage that I have received. I didn't come out black and blue like others I've seen. It seemed quite busy which speaks for itself. I found the staff quite friendly, professional and courteous. I felt comfortable in the surroundings. My massage therapist was tiny but strong, full of stamina and certainly took care of the tension in my back and shoulders. I was very pleased with the whole experience. Booked my fiancé a massage here and will probably never come back. Massage was booked for a Wednesday morning. There were no other people in the waiting room except for us. Receptionist is too busy answering phone calls, booking people massages over the phone, and all the meanwhile putting every other person on hold that there should probably be another person looking after people who walk in for their appointments. So we stood there for about 5 minutes while she did this. My fiancé did not enjoy his massage from B. Wang (very awkward). He actually asked me if Academy Massage was a "training" massage therapy location/school.. and to top it all off when I picked up my fiancé after his massage, I took a look at the receipt he was given as they do not direct bill with our insurance provider. I immediately noticed that the POS receipt did not match the terminal receipt (the price paid did not match the service). My fiancé did not notice as he folded it right away and put it in his jacket when he used the facilities before leaving. I then realized then that we were actually given somebody else's receipt with the person's name, home address, and phone number. This was a BIG mistake, a definite no no due to privacy. I went back to the receptionist and told her it's a good thing I looked at the receipt as we would obviously not have been able to claim this. (And it's also a good thing we didn't make it all the way home as we would have had to go all the way back to receive the correct receipt). Not only that but the person who may have received my fiancé's actual receipt would then have seen our home address, and our home phone number. There is no excuse for this. All the receptionist could say was "I'm sorry, I don't know what happened there.." and I simply said to her there is no excuse for this. A "simple" error this may have been but nobody's information should ever be given out. I will definitely be reporting this. I should also mention that when I went back to speak to the receptionist there were 3 other staff members now at the desk talking amongst themselves (probably massage therapists). There were also at least 2 other people in the waiting room. I'm sure anyone in that room or anyone in general would agree that this is absolutely unacceptable. read more

Went for a couples massage, the room was very relaxing and romantic. The rating is based on the actual massage was not very good, my therapist sat on a chair most of my massage. Sitting she did not have much strength, barely felt it. My partners therapist was a better, but not outstanding. We will find somewhere else. read more

I just want to say thank you to Academy Massage Therapy, for an amazing experience. I have gone for many massages in the past, but this was by far the best one I have ever had. I felt comfortable and relaxed the moment I walked in. Academy Massage has such a comforting atmosphere, with such friendly staff. I was greeted promptly upon arriving and taken up into my room within just a couple minutes. My therapist was absolutely amazing. She asked what I needed worked on and did exactly that.
