A solid beach front hotel choice, just mere minutes from El Prat, and a giod choice for close access to the airport coming or going. We stayed here our last night before our return flight and it was a pretty decent stay. We were greeted by courteous front desk staff, arriving a bit early they got us checked in promptly and while I was parking the car below even took the time to run our luggage to our room for us. All of the staff we encountered were all professional, friendly and helpful. This Marriott Portfolio hotel is on the first line on the beach, with its own access to the sand and surf. A rather small hotel by comparison, with only two floors, a limited amount of secure private parking below ground and an on site restaurant. A large backyard pool area with maintained grounds and gardens all inside a secure fenced area. The hotel rooms are small but comfortable, and our king bed with a direct sea view met the needs for our overnight stay. Comfortable bed but the pillows were ridiculously large oversized and not really comfortable for sleeping. The oversized pillows were odd for the room and seemed like a wierd choice. Parking is limited, and a cost of 24€ a day. The restaurant and bar are comfortable and the food and service is good. Making it convenient for guests of the hotel, if you do not feel like walking to find food or libations elsewhere. 4 Stars - very close to El Prat and on the beach 01227 read more

During my recent trip to Barcelona, I stayed at this beautiful hotel in their luxury suite overlooking the ocean. The room had a king sized bed and plush pillows. It was so incredibly comfortable that I did not want to get out of bed! The room itself was immaculately clean and had all the necessities for a comfortable stay. The balcony doors open to a gorgeous view of the pool, with the ocean in the background. I was close enough where I could hear the waves of the ocean crashing against the shores. Elena at the front desk warmly greeted me as I entered and exited the hotel and remembered my name each time. She provided exceptional service and made me feel like a VIP. The hotel is a bit far from the main attractions in Barcelona, but if you want a relaxing stay, I wouldn't go anywhere else but here. It's situated in a very quiet neighborhood that is within walking distance to the beach and local restaurants. Out of all the hotels I've ever stayed at, this is my favorite. Definitely #1 in my books! It feels upscale, yet homey at the same time. I prefer this over the high end snooty hotels. read more

Thanks to my Marriott gold status, we've got upgraded to the seaview room, which was an unexpected bonus as we booked the cheapest room available. Very nice bar with reasonable prices for drinks. It's less than 10 min from the airport, so there are a lot of planes passing by. I liked it but for some it may be annoying. read more

Close to the airport and is directly across from the beach. I found the bed to be very uncomfortable but the shower, hotel grounds and pool are good. Front desk was great and they spoke English which was extremely helpful as my Spanish is very poor. It was wonderful to be able to get to the ocean in a short walk out the back of hotel. read more

We stayed here our last few nights in Barcelona since we had an early flight and this was closer to the airport than staying in downtown Barcelona. I hate to give this 3 stars as the hotel it's self is nice and the location right on the beach is fabulous. We had a ocean view room which was lovely to be able to open the doors get a breeze and listen to the calming sound of the surf. So to make things easy I will break down the pros and cons. Pros - The service of the front desk staff was top notch, they spoke English and were patient with our attempt to speak the limited Spanish we know. They even set up and order a taxi for us getting to the airport. - The rooms were modern decor and very clean. The ocean views were an added bonus and beautiful. - The mini-fridge prices were very reasonable and were inline with the prices you would pay at the lobby bar. Cons - The food at the restaurant was not good! Not only were the menu options odd, when ordering what we thought was safe we couldn't help but laugh because we could have done better from our kitchen at home. Since it's not worth eating at the hotel restaurant it means you will want to find another restaurant. The best area restaurants are in Castelldefels which will require a taxi ride or at least a 2-3 mile walk one way. - They do not offer an airport shuttle nor metro access which will mean that you have to get a taxi to and from the airport which is a 20 Euro minimum. - The room prices are higher than some of the other hotels near the airport and with the added expense of the taxi and the food option inconveniences the prices don't in my book seem at that reasonable. Overall a nice hotel with nice location to the beach although I think I might check out a different hotel if back in the area and needing early morning access to the airport. read more

Stayed here 4 days for a business trip. The first thing to note is that this place is far from the city. About 30+ min depending on traffic. It's close to the airport (5 min), but keep in mind that any taxi leaving the airport will charge you 20 euro minimum no matter the distance. The hotel: 2 floors, rooms are decent space and all clean. The rooms do not have a safe which I found odd. There is a pool, but it was too chilly to use it. The hotel is right next to the beach which is probably nice in the summer. Food: ok, nothing special. They switch up the lunch every day which is nice. The breakfast is the same stuff every day (eggs, bacon, cheese, bread). Bottom line - the distance from the city makes this hotel inconvenient for me. I would consider staying there if I had a short layover in Barcelona and plan on doing absolutely nothing in the city. read more

Nice beach property if you want to stay on the beach, but if you want to see the city of Barcelona, it will cost you plenty just to get there. Bus is cheap, but 90 min to get there, a long and bumpy drive. An agreement between the taxi companies and the hotel includes a fee anywhere between 7 and 12 $ charge on the meter when the taxi arrives to pick u up, BEFORE YOU GET IN THE TAXI. A disgrace! Super hotel. Highly recommended for anyone vacationing in Barcelona - seems a great alternative to a downtown hotel - although it certainly helps to have a rental car. (They charge about 20E for parking per night) Great features- 1. Right on a wide, uncrowded, clean beach, with bathing in the Mediterranean. Also a running path for getting AM exercise. They also provide really excellent beach towels, perhaps the best hotel towels I've ever used. 2. Really lovely pool in a garden setting surrounded by cotton hammocks. Pool is 3-4 ft deep, lined in blue tile, super warm, large, uncrowded. 3. Excellent bar/restaurant/lounge area with great seating and an indoor/outdoor feel. Good menu and drinks. 4. Hotel has a modernist design and is very attractive. Only downside of this is that the automobile access to hotel requires at least a 100 ft walk outside, even from the underground parking. I don't blame the hotel as this was just a decision of the architect some years ago. 5. Stylish, comfortable rooms, many with ocean view. Only small weakness is that the flooring is starting to come up in some places and needs replacing. Doesn't affect stay, however. 6. Great desk staff who all speak English and are happy to accommodate. 7. Reasonable rates. 8. Minibar rates the same as if you bought the items at the bar. Not the case for many US hotels. 9. In a nice beachside neighborhood with a number of restaurants and a few shops. 10. Great breakfast buffet costing 18E. 11. One other weakness is the lack of exercise facilities, but of course you can run by the beach. We scheduled a stay for one night before going on a cruise without knowing anything about it, and then ended up returning for two nights after the cruise. Would definitely recommend for anyone needing an extra night's stay before a cruise, as it is very close the airport, and it was very easy to get a cab from there to the cruise port, even for 5 people. Another reviewer commented that it is not great for children, but our 8 and 9 yo's had a great time, and loved the pool, which was open for kids, and loved the beach. Also the hotel did not charge them for the breakfast buffet, which I thought was generous, as the AC Hotel in Tarragona wanted to charge them 20E which made it prohibitively expensive. read more

Very clean and cozy with large rooms that fit 2 very comfortably. Functional without excess and feels very modern with lots of dark wood. Access to the beach right next to a nice pool as well. The overall ambience of the place is quite chic and the surrounding neighborhood is very Southern Californian with tennis courts and shop lined streets running perpendicular to the beach. Without having a lot of parking on premise the street parking was very easy to find and very close, basically right in front of the hotel. If you are planning to visit Barcelona city often then you must rent a car because this place is not within public transport distance. Even in a car it was a solid 20 minutes away from Barcelona and 15 from downtown Gava. I would definitely stay here again and the beaches were very quiet and not tourist laiden. read more

My family and I visited the AC Hotel Gava Mar for a short stay before cruise out of Barcelona. While booking online the fact that the location was by the beach was appealing. After actually making the effort to get to the hotel, even though it was roughly close to the airport, it was still a bit out of the way. It was basically tucked in the corner of a neighborhood by the beach. Besides the residents a store or restaurant was about 5 or 6 blocks away. Aside for the location itself the staff was mediocre; they didn't really give off that usual Marriott hospitality that I was accustomed to. The room were given at the time of check in must've recently been in use because we found someone's bathing trunk on the balcony and a pair of their shorts in the closet. It was offsetting but we've been traveling for hours and were in no mood to start a war. Our first night there we ate in the on-site restaurant and it was okay. The food was a bit expensive especially given the portions so that was the first and last meal we ate at the restaurant. Matter of fact the next day we were asked to leave the outside dining area by the pool since we were not allowed to use their tables to eat food purchased outside of their hotel. We were literally told to go back to our room if we wanted to eat our food. The pool hours were a bit constrained, I felt it closed a bit early but every place operates differently. Overall, it was not the best experience I've had a Marriott affiliated hotel so I can't give it more than 3 stars, and that's mainly because it did the basics. We had a sort of clean room to stay in for a few nights - and we just to be creative when it came to finding our meals throughout the day. read more

I stayed here for 3 nights on a business trip where the conference was taking place in the hotel. The staff were very welcoming and for the whole trip they were always attentive, polite, friendly and a pleasure to deal with. The rooms in the hotel are perfect. They are very clean, modern, spacious, well equipped and and very well maintained. I would give the beds 10/10 for size and comfort. The facilities in the hotel were excellent. Next to the reception was a very nice bar and restaurant that led out to a beautiful shaded terrace which boasted very comfortable seating. The terrance overlooked the pool and poolside bar which like the rest of the hotel were very nice and well maintained. I managed to get free time away from the conference for a 30 minute dip in the pool and the water was absolutely perfect. The hotel has a gate which leads you directly our onto the beach. It is about a 10 minute stroll from the nearest town which is full of great restaurants and bars and the walk there will take you by some very picturesque beach bars. The only reason the hotel does not get 5 stars is because of the Wifi. It is only free in the lobby and conference room and you must pay for use in the rooms. Both the paid and free wifi are terrible quality, difficult to connect to and slow. In 2015 I find it completely unacceptable that a hotel does not have good quality, fast and free wifi. If the hotel were to change this it would instantly get 5 stars. I'd also point out that this hotel is really not equipped for children. Although they have a pool and are right beside the beach there were no other visible amenities for them to avail of. However, I would 100% recommend this hotel for business or pleasure and I'm hoping to arrange a weekend break away here later this year. read more
