Merritt Park is a multi-ethnic neighborhood in the southwest corridor of Delray Beach. It is south…read moreof Atlantic Ave and can accessed from Swinton Boulevard.. The park was named for the neighborhood and it was built in the early 1960's to provide recreation for children residing in the immediate area. Merritt Park is enclosed with a chain link fence. Park amenities include two lighted softball fields, stadium bleachers, 2 half-court basketball courts, playground, field, and restrooms. While the field is very popular for athletic games, the playground is rather basic and showing its age. To make the park more attractive to children the city has added a brand new ninja style course called ELEVATE by Burke. The course uses different obstacles to get you in shape and can be used individually or by teams. You can make the course even more challenging by incorporating burpees, jumps, and sprints. To learn how to use the equipment you can watch tutorial videos at bciburke.com/elevate. There are also directions on the backside of the sign in the park. I love these new ninja style courses that I have seen being added to parks and make exercise more fun. None of the kids were on the dated playground. Instead they were all on the inviting ninja course climbing and jumping and having a blast.

I like that the park is surrounded by a low fence, which means parents can easily see who is approaching and you can also be sure kids aren't going to wander off nearby as easily. As much fun as it looked, I did not play on the ninja playground course. I'm sure it gets a lot of use. Today was just a nice walk around the park. My 1st experience was walking in (not being greeted), seeing a man with a mouthful of a burger answering my question (since I wasn't even acknowledged). He was not friendly, didn't introduce himself despite finding out he was my son's coach. Didn't seem happy to be there at all (prior to and during my son's class). Looked miserable, didn't demonstrate anything to the kids. He also never introduced himself to my son when the class started. After telling someone who worked there, my experience- she didn't seem to care at all- did nothing. Very disappointed, I was hopeful this gym had so much potential.... It's all in the people who run them which will allow them to survive or not. I'd suggest anyone go to any other gym and have a far better experience.

The coaches here are truly exceptional--each one brings their own unique strength, and together they create an environment that is positive, disciplined, and full of joy. Our daughter Samantha absolutely loves coming to practice. She has grown tremendously in confidence, strength, and technique since joining. A special shoutout to Coach Lidia--she is by far the sweetest and most dedicated coach we've ever met. Her warmth make a world of difference, and Samy lights up whenever she talks about her.Another highlight Samy looks forward to? The Zumba minutes with coach Lidia, bring so much energy and fun to the gym--we definitely need more of this kind of joyful movement built into practice! Coach Gianmarco always brings enthusiasm to the floor, making every session engaging and exciting. His dedication and positivity are truly inspiring. Coach Jin impresses us with his sharp focus--he has his eyes on every athlete, constantly giving corrections and encouraging each gymnast to reach their full potential. Coach Didier--his calm yet motivating approach brings balance and confidence to the athletes. He knows exactly how to challenge the kids in a supportive way, and his technical expertise truly shows in how much the gymnasts improve under his guidance. In the 1970's Robert "Bob" P. Miller stood up for the Little League baseball players of Delray…read moreBeach. He petitioned Mayor Jack Saunders and the City Commission for a regulation size, lighted little league baseball field because Delray Beach was the only city at the time between Vero Beach and Key West that didn't have one. Taking his request under consideration, the mayor and commission appointed Bob to be the chairman of a committee to research and start the process of building the field. Committee member Ken Ellingsworth helped the city apply for the Bicentennial Grant for $250,000, the largest grant ever given in the State of Florida. With the grant they were able to purchase the property near the transfer station off SW 4th Ave. The county helped build the park and a field called "Little Fenway", a replica of Fenway Park and it's "Green Monster", the left field wall in Fenway in Boston, Massachusetts. The committee voted to name the new park after the man who started it all, Robert P. Miller. Bob wasn't done yet though. One field wasn't enough for all of the kids to play baseball in Delray Beach. He went back to the city commission and mayor and got them to add more fields to the park. The last field added to the park was Sergio Field, named after another longtime city resident and employee Fred Sergio. Bucky Dent's Baseball School, now the Elev 8 Sports Institute moved into the south end of the park and helps maintain the fields. Today Robert P. Miller Park has been renovated and reconfigured to include three new little league fields, one major league field, two-story concession stand/press box building, Miracle League Field and concession stand building, four batting cages, major league practice infield, 3-bay storage building, new pavilion and pitching and hitting wall area. The original playground was relocated; additional parking was added, and the fencing and play surface on Little Fenway at the North end of the park was replaced. Until accidentally stumbling upon this park I had no idea this kids baseball dream existed next to the railroad tracks. What a wonderful resource for the baseball lovers of Delray Beach and all thanks to Bob Miller who wanted to make a place for the Little Leagues to play in the city he loved.

A couple of things to keep in mind when visiting: the space is fully open with no shade, so sunscreen and hats are a must. There aren't any restrooms on-site, so it's best to plan ahead before you come. If you'd like to sit and watch your kids play, bringing a chair will make it more comfortable since there aren't benches yet. The space itself is very cute and has so much potential. Right now, a few details feel overlooked -- like restrooms, shade, and seating for parents -- but hopefully this is just the starting point and the city will continue building on this fantastic idea. With a few thoughtful additions, it could truly become a go-to spot for families in the community!

My husband volunteered countless hours of his own time as a rec coach and I have now become my son's best cheerleader from my lawn chair each and every game. Mal is a great director, and is always open and receptive to feedback, and the coaches have invariably been kind and supportive of my 10-year-old son. I can't imagine another place that feels more like "home" and I am proud to be part of the Strikers family.

Royal Palm Beach Soccer is a great place to learn and play. I have been involved with this program…read moresince it started. My kids have played here and now my grandkids play here. They absolutely care about their players. They try to put players in the best positions for both the team and the child. Some parents think their kids should only play one position and then they don't learn any other positions so therefore, the child thinks that as well. Parents should be teaching their children to be TEAM players and not individuals. Kids should be learning what it is like to be on a TEAM. If they don't want to play as a TEAM PLAYER then they should go play tennis, or ping pong or an individual sport, of which soccer is not. Royal Palm Beach teaches children how to play in a TEAM environment and how to get along with others. If you want to go elsewhere, feel free since the grass is allegedly greener on the other side. We love this program and great job to everyone who runs it from the board members to the coaches. See you on the fields.
