I was very skeptical choosing a new salon since I just moved down here from Boston. The abyss salon did an excellent job with my hair I was nervous and kind of stressed but Magdalena, had a cam sensor about her and was able to get me relaxed so she could do my hair. I have been going to Magdalena for a while now and every time I receive unsolicited positive comments. I have thick wavy hair so not so easy to get a haircut that looks good day 1 and into day 30! I've been going to Katelyn at Abyss for about six months, but never again.  She is chronically late and is clueless to the concept of scheduled appointments, has zero time management skills, and doesn't seem to care that her clients arrange their schedules to be on time for their appointments, take off work, arrange for child care, etc..  And I'm not talking a couple of minutes; I'm talking an hour without being offered a drink, a magazine, no music playing, and no one to even let me know what's going on.    I wanted to support local businesses that were shut down due to the pandemic, plus I desperately needed a color, so Katelyn was the first place I called when the state opened up.   I guess she forgot how to color hair during the stay-at-home orders, because three-plus hours and $200 later, she ended up destroying my hair and now I have to pay a fortune to have the color corrected. read more

I don't think there's anything scarier than chopping your hair short with a hairdresser you've never used before. Since my usual guy was booked, I tried out Madison at Abyss. The salon itself is a renovated home in Downtown Stuart, so it's charming right off the bat. The atmosphere inside was great, all the women working seemed to really get along and enjoy their work. First, the salon itself is in a historic home with a lot of character. Stacey was very attentive to all of my concerns and hooked it up. Color and cut. I will be back! I had a very bad hair experience a year ago, (at another salon). Was very light blonde and requested light ash brown. Wound up with black hair with maroon highlights. It took a year of bleaching, highlighting and hair cuts to get rid of the black dye and get rid of the hair damaged from bleaching. I then went to a master hair colorist and requested a light ash brown. I wound up with a medium golden brown and the brassiness was throughout my hair, most noticeable at the top. I explained all of this when I went to Katelyn for full head highlights. I explained that I was looking for the brown to be corrected to an ash and beige highlights as I do not like yellow blonde. First she colored my hair a dark brown, almost black base. Then she teased sections for highlights. Never, have I ever had my hair teased when highlighting. When she removed all of the foils my hair was a tangled mess and she took forever to pull the teasing out, which I could feel was breaking my hair. After drying my hair she suggested waving it which I agreed to and it looked pretty good, except I hated the dark base. My husband was waiting for me at the restaurant next door. What was expected to be 4 hours turned into 7 1/2 hours and he was mad as hell. I got home and as the waves fell out, the next day I could see all of the breakage at the top of my head and all over the sides. My hair does not hold a curl or wave for long. I waited 5 days to wash my hair. I was afraid of what I was going to wind up with. My hair is super dry and the hair in front, which she highlighted lighter as "money pieces" was all broken off. The photos I showed her had varying levels of highlights. I said I liked the platinum tones, which I always had dispursed throughout my other highlights when I was blonde, before the black hair mistake. The highlights that Katelyn did are all one color and were lifted to white, which super damaged my hair. Now I am back where I started with a black base and very damaged hair. It will take more than a year to get my hair back to a healthy state and get rid of the black again. On top of that this experience was pretty expensive. read more

I was in town visiting my parents from California and needed to find a hair salon for a blow dry. I was booked with Jackie and I feel I got so lucky to find her. Not only is she a lovely, friendly person she is so talented with hair. I am particular about my hair as I dye it blonde and have long extensions. She really cared about giving me a good experience and really took care of my hair. She also now does my moms hair! Staci cut my hair along with my daughter and granddaughter today. I can honestly say that this was the best hair cut I've had in many years..She listened to everything I wanted and did a outstanding job! Katelyn is an eyebrow guru. She is hands down the best I have ever gone to and my eyebrows have never looked better. I was so impressed with how much time she took to perfect my brows. She was very nice and constantly grabbing new clean tools and things to complete the process. The salon was cute and the other staff was very friendly. The last two times I went I was very disappointed. The first of the last time I went the girl took longer than she should have I guess with my hair she told me at the start of my appointment she was going to curl my hair. Then her next appointment arrived so she hurried up with my hair and said she no longer had time to finish styling my hair because her other appointment arrived. She even left me to go get the other person a coffee while she had never offered me any kind of Beverage at all during the whole appointment. The next time I got a different stylist and again was never offered a beverage. I told her I was going for professional picture directly after my appointment. I wanted my hair to be curled back with some body in it. She blew my hair completely straight and then attempted to put a few half-assed curls and that did not take when I do it at home I have to leave the curling iron in a little bit to make the curls stay because I have thin hair. She is a licensed professional should know that if the hair is not taking when you just do it a tiny bit and it still flat maybe you should do it longer. I went to the professional portrait after my appointment because I already had the appointment set up pictures came out horrible hair was flat I had to retake at Great cost to myself. I will not go to the salon any longer apparently they pick and choose who they're kind to. read more

The snowbirds are arriving in Stuart! And I am one of them and every year I through the same thing. Time to find a better salon. I guess being a hair stylist is something like being a waitress- find a good one and the next thing you know they're leaving for "something ether". Yeah right. Like so a place really exists. So I tried Abyss on Saturday - stylist Jackie. She was TERRIFIC! She did my roots perfectly actually did what I wanted. She trimmed my hair and it looks real good and I'm happy with it. I asked her if they did waxing? So eyebrows next! I was thrilled- plus she was the nicest young gal you would ever want to meet! No problem talking to her. Abyss was an adorable little bungalow on Osceola. 2 block from the fountain intersection downtown Stuart. Got a haircut and color done by Ashley. The salon is in a cute little old Florida style house in the heart of downtown Stuart. My hair needed some serious TLC and Ashley took care of that. My gf was getting her root hair(black) dyed from Magdalena(owner/master stylist?) When I made an appointment, person that answered my phone call told me that dying root hair will cost me $48 and haircut would be $43. When we explained about her previous hair salon made a mistake of not matching her hair color(dark brown). so we asked Magdalena if she can match my gf's previous root hair color as well as her root color to her regular hair she currently have(light natural brown). She agreed that she will be able to do that. She sounded pretty confident to accomplish what we asked but after she went to make the color to match her hair, she began to color the root first instead of her previous hair that had slightly different color. (Everyone should know that root hair has the highest temperature) normally instruction for dying root hair should be putting chemical in root hair last. Not only that, she put chemicals on the root hair and dark brown around the same time. black color requires longer period of time than dark brown to make the hair natural brown(something didn't look right). Then she did not check my gf's hair color periodically to make sure the color of her hair is coming out the way it should. She just call her and told her that her hair color is done and went to wash the chemicals out. Apparently, when Magdalena washed her hair, she wasn't very good at washing her hair(Even myself, I get massages after my haircut at sportclip and they feel really nice). But Magdalena didn't even massaged her hair or take all the shampoo/conditioner out of her hair(she ended up washing her hair at home again). After she washed her hair, she told her to sit and she said she's only going to dry her root hair to show her root color(if u dye your hair and wash someone's whole hair, hair stylist need to dry the whole to see if dyed hair matches with her originally dyed hair color(sounded like she will charge more to dry the whole hair..) also, while she was drying my gf's hair, she put the dryer too close to the root hair, she ended up moving her head twice bc she felt like dryer was burning her. After we briefly saw what Magdalena's work in my gf's hair, we could already see that it was not natural color. Just two different dark brown color instead of light natural brown. When we started to complain, Magdalena didn't do it right bc she previously didn't do the coloring of her hair(master stylist job is to match the color whether she previously did someone's hair or not). And then she started talking about next time when my gf comes back to color her hair again(obviously not offering for free) We got frustrated and just Fxxx it. And we decided to pay. When I asked her how much, she said $68. I told her when I made an appointment on the phone, she told me $48. Then she replied back to me that "I'm charge differently" and blames the person that made an appointment(blaming someone else again...) so I just paid. She had balls to give me her business card and saw that she was an owner... don't trust the owner bc she's going to blame someone when she doesn't do her job well. read more

Ashley is a life saver! I live in Texas and was visiting my parents for the week and desperately needed my hair done. Someone in Texas ruined my once beautiful hair and left it yellow, orange, and choppy. Ashley squeezed me in during my mom's appointment, and I have to say she is a miracle worker. She worked wonders on my hair - turning my yellow and orange splotchy hair into beautiful blonde. In some particularly horrific areas, she went strand by strand to fix it. She also fixed my haircut. I just moved to Port Saint Lucie from Utah and I needed to get my hair colored. I looked on Yelp and the top rated salon was Abyss Salon and it was close enough to my house so I made an appointment with Aviana to have a Balayage color done to my hair. She was very friendly and did a hair consultation and suggested full highlights instead of balayage. I showed her a picture of what I eventually wanted my hair to look like so she proceeded to do my hair. I was at the salon for about 3 hours. I didn't expect my hair to look like what I wanted overnight. I figured it would take three or four hair appointments to get my hair to the color I wanted. My Appointment that day ended up costing me $170!!! I'm not used to paying that kind of money to get my hair done. That was only for highlights and a hair treatment product. I paid $85 to get my hair done in Utah and that included wash, cut, color, blow dry, etc. My mouth dropped!! I couldn't believe the price for one appointment and my hair didn't look any different than any other appointment I've ever had. She wanted me to return in three weeks to do another full-highlights. I made the appointment and then decided to cancel it. There are other salons out there that aren't as pricey that do as good a job!!! read more
