We were there looking at Coral rocks to add to our tank and they didnt disappoint! There were so many to choose from.. every shape and size you can imagine. We ended up buying several rocks and our tank is simply gorgeous. I didnt know you werent allowed to take pics of the fish. Im a newbie so I was unaware that it could stress out the fish. I took a couple pics before I noticed the sign. (oops!) I wasnt using a flash so Im pretty sure I didnt do any damage to any fish though. We will definitely be back for more fish or accessories for our tank very soon.

Like any typical dad, I had to go much bigger. After finding the tank I wanted, I called several local "upscale" fish and pet stores in Westchester, but no one had it in stock. I even called the manufacturer, and they told me that Beital's Aquarium was definitely the place I needed to contact. I called the next business day, and what I believe was the owner answered. Right away, he started calling his supplier while I was still on the phone trying to track down the exact tank I wanted. That level of service was impressive. Within about 15 minutes, everything was handled and I was able to place the order. He even matched online pricing. Since that first phone call, I've been making the drive from Westchester to shop there for some really amazing fish. Anytime I have questions--or even random algae problems--Craig, the owner, has been an absolute expert and incredibly helpful. You can tell he has years of experience, and it makes a huge difference for customers like me. Great store, great service, and an owner who truly knows his stuff. Highly recommend.

Unfortunately, I've had a frustrating experience with Rockland Aquarium…read more I ordered a special color morph of Blood Parrot cichlid, prized for its brilliant yellow coloration. I'd wanted one for ages and was so excited when he arrived! The fish was healthy, robust, and had clearly traveled well. There was just one problem. He was orange. Not yellowish-orange, but bright, unmistakable Blood Parrot orange. So orange that once acclimated to my tank, I could barely distinguish him from the others! I sent a friendly email explaining the problem. The owner replied, "That's so weird. He was yellow when we caught and packed him. Please send pictures." I promptly sent photographs, including one of the fish still in his shipping bag. I find it difficult to believe this fish was ever yellow. Perhaps someone else's order was shipped to me by mistake. That is possible but I truly doubt this fish was ever yellow. Since then, I've sent three more emails, tried texting, and called a number with a full voicemail box. Nothing. Even the website's refund link leads to information associated with an apparel store. Returning a dress and resolving a problem with a live fish are hardly the same thing! I understand they may be busy caring for their fish, but customer service is part of running a business. I don't want to dispute the charge, but with the purchase price and shipping, I may have no choice. To be fair, the fish is beautiful, healthy, and thriving. I've named him Fraud, and the little booger is staying right where he is. I won't put him through another shipment, even if he has taken the place intended for my dream fish. It's a shame. I thought I'd found an affordable source for quality fish, and perhaps I have. But without reliable customer service, I can't recommend them or feel comfortable ordering again. Two stars, entirely for the healthy fish.

It is a locally owned shop owed by pet care fans. What is not to like? Okay, one more tiny thing they could work on: their small pet care section could be more forward thinking in terms of modern hamster/mouse/etc pet care. It's not their specialty, and their hamsters always seem content so it's not a major thing but larger wheels, larger cages, etc I think would be a lot more informative to the future pet owner than Kaytee products.

Absolutely DISGUSTED with my experience at Pet's Place II…read more I brought merchandise into this store with the understanding that I would receive store credit for it. THEY KEPT MY MERCHANDISE, NEVER GAVE ME THE CREDIT, and are now denying the exchange ever happened. So apparently they think it's acceptable to keep a customer's property and give them absolutely NOTHING in return. That alone should tell you everything you need to know about how this business treats customers. And the store itself? EMBARRASSING. The place looks like it has been completely neglected. Tanks full of algae, dead fish, barely any inventory on the shelves, and an awful smell throughout the store. For a business that's supposed to sell and care for animals, the condition of what I personally saw was disturbing. Then there's the customer service -- absolutely HORRIBLE. When I tried to address the situation, instead of taking responsibility or trying to resolve it, I was treated like shit. I've rarely dealt with a business that showed this little respect for a customer. Pet's Place II: You don't get to take someone's merchandise, promise credit in exchange, then keep the merchandise AND refuse the credit. If you're not going to honor the exchange, GIVE ME MY PROPERTY BACK. I would NEVER bring merchandise here for trade or credit again, and after seeing the condition of this store and experiencing the way they treat customers, I wouldn't spend a dime here either. AVOID THIS PLACE. There are plenty of pet stores that actually value their customers, maintain their stores, and stand behind what they agree to.

I ordered two Red-Tailed Red-Eye Puffers (Carinotetraodon irrubesco) from Monster Aquarium. What…read morearrived were two completely different fish--large, highly aggressive Pao puffers, apparently Pao abei and/or Pao cochinchinensis. These aren't species that could reasonably be confused in terms of size, temperament, or care requirements. This created an immediate problem. Irrubesco are small puffers that I had appropriate housing prepared for. The fish I received were roughly 3-4 inches long and belong to a group notorious for extreme aggression, requiring secure individual housing. I had to improvise emergency setups to keep them separated from each other and from my other fish while figuring out what they actually were. The most disappointing part was the response afterward--or lack of one. I contacted Monster Aquarium about the misidentification and sent photographs of the fish. I never received a response or any attempt to resolve the situation. Fortunately, a knowledgeable local aquarium store was willing to take both puffers, and they are now safely in experienced hands. But I had to solve a problem that never should have been mine in the first place. Fish identification matters, particularly with puffers. Sending someone a potentially extremely aggressive Pao in place of a small Carinotetraodon isn't just getting an order wrong; it can put the fish, the customer's existing livestock, and potentially the aquarist at risk. I understand that mistakes happen in the aquarium trade, especially with species that can be difficult to identify. What makes this a bad experience for me is that after a very consequential mistake, the seller simply did not respond.
