I did a really deep dive before hiring them... comparing every ConEd approved contractor to see who had the best reviews, BBB ratings, etc and GHL had the highest marks everywhere. I spoke with Geoff initially, who is very helpful with getting us set in the right direction and he squeezed us in for an energy audit in a reasonable amount of time. Got the energy audit done with Jon, which was really interesting and gave me a full picture of the limitations of my home, but then also the places where we could make vast improvements. Jon is great by the way and took a bunch of time with us to answer our questions (we had a lot). They ended up doing blown in fiberglass insulation in the crawlspace below the roof. They scheduled this in a timely fashion, showed up right on time, finished quickly and cleaned up to our tenant's satisfaction. The installers were very polite, helpful and professional. Since I wasn't about to squeeze in that tiny crawlspace, they took plenty of photos of the work to let me know how it looked. Based on some rough estimates from my smart thermostat, we now run our boiler 25% less than before insulation. Keep in mind, that's just with insulating the crawlspace. If you're able to do your walls too, I'd assume these numbers could go even higher, but we couldn't. After rebates from ConEd and the IRA it virtually cost us nothing. As long as the rebates are in place, I'll likely bring them back every year to insulate something else. It's really a no brainer, especially with this company which is run like the Navy.

When I recently moved here, I realized that the…read morehouse was old construction and that the insulation in place was lacking in many places in the attic, basement, and crawl space. In addition, the foundation and attic were not properly sealed so in places, for example, you could see the outside while standing in the basement -- and not through a window! I spoke to a few companies, and one company did an energy audit. They were good, but I felt they way overpriced the proposed work. I found Hudson Insulation of NY through a referral, and Tony came and did a thorough walk-through, including the attic and the crawl space (crawl-through...). They provided a reasonable proposal and explained exactly what they would do. I found everything they proposed was credible, made sense, and was clearly explained. The actual work was performed by a team of three younger guys who were very friendly but totally work-focused. They did a beautiful job filling all the joists with insulation and sealing the foundation properly with foam. Other things like entry points into the house by wires, were also sealed. In the attic, they did the difficult and necessary work of sealing the eave borders around the edges of the vents, to prevent air leaks under the insulation there. The attic, basement, and crawl space are now well insulated and sealed. The entire process felt painless, the workers were friendly but professional (focused on the work), and there were no headaches. I strongly recommend them for any kind of insulation or sealing work that you may need.
