Unfortunately for me, this program was a gigantic waste of time and money and I would strongly recommend that anyone encountering a substance use problem stay as far away as possible. They teach the core tenets of A.A and these beliefs (from the 1950s) have been factually disproven. Dilworth is doing tons of vulnerable people a MAJOR disservice in giving them false information about this problem. Specifically, I am referencing these claims: You are powerless (Really meaning you have no self control and you never will have an ability to moderate your drinking) You have a chronic disease that is incurable. Meeting makers "make it" You are a drink away from disaster All of this is hogwash. Your beliefs matter tremendously when it comes to getting better. If you believe you are a drink away from "Death, Jails, and Institutions", then that will be the case. If you believe you have self control, then you will have self control. Here are some things to consider: More than 90% of heavy alcohol abusers eventually quit or moderate, most without formal help. This statistic cites a nationally representative study estimating lifetime remission from alcohol dependence at 90.6%. It also cites data from Dawson's showing that, among people with prior alcohol dependence, 49.9% were drinking without current abuse or dependence and 22.3% were abstinent. The core empirical point is very strong: Most people who become dependent eventually cease being dependent. Most accomplish that without formal treatment. Abstinence is NOT the only observed outcome. The claim that an "alcoholic" is permanently powerless is flatly inconsistent with population data. Why, then, does society still push AA, rehab and lifelong "recovery"? A huge part of it is institutional inertia. AA became culturally dominant before good population-level research existed. Treatment centers then absorbed its assumptions: incurable disease, powerlessness, lifelong vigilance, relapse always waiting. Families are frightened and want a visible intervention. Doctors want something concrete to prescribe. Courts and employers want a compliance mechanism. Rehab companies have an obvious financial interest in portraying treatment as necessary. Once that whole ecosystem existed, people who succeeded inside it were displayed as proof, while the much larger population who quietly changed on their own remained invisible. There's also a massive confusion between medical stabilization and solving the preference for heavy drinking. Medical detox can genuinely save someone from seizures or delirium during dangerous withdrawal. A protected environment can temporarily keep someone alive. But that does not mean 28 days in rehab, meetings forever, or adopting an alcoholic identity changes what someone believes alcohol does for them. Problematic drinking is a LEARNED behavior. Behaviors and habits can change. You get into this with your mind and you also get out of it with your mind. Specifically, you get out of it by GENUINELY having a preference change for not getting high or drunk. It's not so black and white. You do not get sober because you attend 7 meetings a week in a brainwashed cult....mind you...who's core founder asked for alcohol on his death bed...... Why are we mistakenly giving A.A the credit for sobriety when the DECISION was made by the individual to change their behavior and go in the first place? It's utter nonsense. If you find value in community and can live with the false identity of being an alcoholic for the rest of your life, then by all means go to Dilworth and go to A.A, let your dependency to be sober be tied to that and live the rest of your life "recovering" from a problem that you never actually "recover" from. Spend your valuable time dealing with repetitive meetings, sponsors, and doing a whole bunch of other useless activities and missing the entire point of the problem. The problem for anyone is that for whatever reason, they developed an extremely strong preference for getting high and drunk. "Recovery" does not and will never solve this problem. It may get the abuse to stop, but you'll never truly be able to move on. Common sense says that tying your sobriety to anything other than yourself is foolish. If you want to truly understand what you're dealing with, I would recommend reading the freedom model for addictions by Mark Scheeren, Steven Slate, and Michelle Dunbar. The contents of this book are all you need to move on from this problem without ANY dependence on "recovery". Sadly, places like Dilworth miss the point and it's extremely simple. Figure out how to change your preference for problematic drinking and then STOP, because you DO have self control. Anywhere that tells you that you don't has no business trying to help people with this problem.

The provider explained everything in plain English, and I left feeling much better than when I came in. It's hard to find people who genuinely care these days, but this urgent care reminded me that good customer service still exists. Whenever I visited, I was treated warmly, and my father was always resting comfortably in a clean room and a pristine bed, with carefully laundered, comfortable clothes. He had dementia, so he was unable to tell us how the staff was treating him (and never having been the type of person to complain) we had to take non-verbal cues. All the cues pointed to a staff that was both patient and caring. Trust was essential to us and something we considered heavily before deciding on a place for our beloved father. During his final days, our family experienced feelings that I cannot properly put into words here. Likewise, I am unable to express how sensitive the staff was in their treatment of my father. I imagine that they deal with loss on a regular basis, but never once did they regard our grief casually. My father was a kind, gentle, man and was known for his singing voice, his whistling, his love of jazz and his love of the Word. The staff made sure he was able to enjoy all these things during his final days. They all knew him by name, and said he was easy to care for and easy to care about. This was evident in their heartfelt farewell. You can not pay someone to care, and [care] is what they did here. Perhaps I have not adequately relayed, but in my heart I will absolutely, always appreciate every last member of this staff for giving of themselves so selflessly, when it counted most.

There are no options outside of paying a monthly fee to use your preferred pharmacy They failed to honor several rights we had in the contract including: 1) to be treated with respect, consideration and dignity - this applies to senior management at the facility in being rude, lying, and being non responsive to calls or emails while holding the family and resident to a higher standard, 2) to receive adequate and appropriate care and services - be it failing to do laundry or losing items (often I had to do it myself), or in billing by adding fictitious charges and ach"ing money without informing that they were too busy to deposit a check, 3) Even the owner of the facility at Senior Living Facilities failed to properly acknowledge and investigate my complaint. Not only do they drastically overcharge they have no awareness that the facility I took my mom to after 2 months is over 2,000 a month cheaper yet even with all these documented failures was not interested in refunding any money. The issue with their pharmacy was worked out after almost 3 months when they wrote the entire bill off. For 10 years my mom paid less that it charged me for 2 months, yet The Charlotte didn't care, or look into a different pharmacy. Their Physical and Occupational Therapy were wonderful. I had each therapy 5 days a week. They push you, but not so hard as to cause you to hurt yourself. The location is a long way from home, but it was the best. Going home today and will start out patient therapy Friday. Since I live alone - in patient rehab was definitely the only way to go! The best thing I can say is, you aren't dumped in a room and forgotten. The aids went out of their way to make me comfortable. My recirculating ice machine came with me and the aids would set it up for me. All medications were dispensed in a timely and professional manner. If anything else has to be replaced, I would not hesitate to come back. I forgot to mention their therapy dogs.

Each person and family is different and has different needs to be considered. She has moved through the entire community from Independent Living using Aldersgate At Home to help manage medications and have daily eyes upon her to Assisted Living to Asbury Rehab (as needed) to the Dementia Community to now the Asbury Long-term/Nursing Care area. Aldersgate has truly been a gift from God. My stress has continued to reduce as she has moved through the community. It has been so comforting having EVERYTHING she needs in one facility vs having to move organizations at different stages of care. The staff (saints sent from Heaven above) are professional, warm, kind, funny, honest and have cared for my mom like she was their own. At each level, the staff got to know her by name. It helps to enter Aldersgate early so the staff gets to know you, can see changes in you and assist you through the stages as needed. They truly care, are professionals and can guide you and your family through the stages as changes need to be made. It also helps when they are making the call to help a loved one get additional care vs you making that call. Your loved one is more receptive to the change when they realize the professionals are making the decision not their family. They still might not like it because they may be leaving new friends as they move to another area of campus but the family doesn't become "the bad guy". The staff is amazing at navigating with family dynamics. The staff moves around campus so as your loved one moves they do see some familiar faces as they make transitions and the staff has knowledge to pass on to new staff on how to best handle someone when needed. The facility is very clean and well maintained. I personally think the food is very good and frequently pick up lunch/dinner for myself in the cafe after visiting with mom. I have also eaten in the main dinning area with mom in the past and it was good. On occasion, like any place I might have chosen something I didn't care for but that's normal...overall very good. FYI..there is a black female chef in the cafe that makes the best omelettes for breakfast....yummy. Also, dont try the cappuccino crunch ice cream because it's addicting! At times when visiting from out of town, I have rented one of the rooms so I could stay at the facility but have my own space. While not fancy, it was clean and maintained. The facility gets pretty quiet early yet you can get a good walk up and down the halls at night or around the gorgeous campus during the day...don't miss the azalea garden. Aldersgate is "Top Shelf" in my book. If you or a family member needs care, I cant think of a better place to be.
